Time To Vent About Smitty...again! But I Promise The Reasons Are Legitimate..

Recommended Posts

Group 2.....WHERE DO I SIGN UP???!!!!! God Bless Smitty and Co. for what they did for this organization, but the time for change has come. Many of us have the same complaints we had about the falcons 3 YEARS AGO!!! Remember that fateful preaseason game against the Chargers ('09), when we saw the beginnings of this tired defensive scheme...watching Phillip Rivers convert 3rd and long after 3rd and long AFTER 3RD AND LONG!! Then, like every year, I can remember the blind ones saying "it's only preaseason..it means nothing...blah blah" Lo and behold, years down the line, we are complaining about the same crap!! I just shake my head.....how in the world does an NFL caliber head coach REFUSE to adapt, when he is shown (consistently) by the relatively decent to elite coaches, that his crap DOES NOT WORK. Plain and Simple its time for Mr. Blank to tell Smitty "You ain't gotta go home, but ya gotta get the heII up outta here!!!" And you loyalists can kill all of the noise about blaming the coordinators....everything is happening on Smitty's watch, and HE refuses to allow or encourage change!! Anyway here are my reasons as to why its time for MS to move on...

-Insanity...as per Einstein...doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results. It's been repeated over and over on TATF, and it completely describes MS. From constantly running Turner into the teeth of the defense, to the soft zone coverages that even TJ YATES can carve up...he is hard-headed and needs to be held accountable. How many years of games filled w/ 3rd and long conversions by opposing teams must this man go through be for he changes to an occasional bump-and-run philosophy??!!!

-Too Nice: Its clear that TOO MUCH of a family atmosphere has been created within this organization. Amongst players and coaches there is no fear, and I believe it has been a detriment to this team. Why aren't they practicing on the tuesday after the Monday night beatdown? Why has Turner been allowed to gain about 20lbs of blubber, become slower and weaker, yet not had a significant # of carries given to Snelling and Quizz. WHY IS DUNTA STILL A STARTER?? I'm not saying he needs to become Hitler or anything, but take a look around the NFL at the coaches who are considered elite. Belichick, Payton, Tomlin, Harbough, McCarthy..they are all A-holes who DEMAND EXCELLENCE!! They'll conservatively praise your successes, but if you screw up...they get knee deep in your arse or show you the door. Smitty never has and will never be that guy...

-Lineup judgement: anyone get the feeling that there are some hidden gems, that have been rotting on the benches?? Sidbury, Spence Adkins, Franks...why aren't these guys being given the opportunity to start, when the guys in place aren't producing and haven't all year. Much like his weekly gameplans, when it comes to which players gets snaps, Smitty refuses to change. And I'm sorry...I know the NFL is a business, but when it comes to winning..contracts don't matter. There are a few players on this team starting b/c of the money they are being paid...not their performance on the field. Yup..Edwards, Dunta, Samantha Baker (how long did it take before Smitty sat him...and lets be honest, he'd still be the LT if it wasn't for injury), and now Turner..IM TALKIN TO YOU!!

The list goes on and on.... And you know what..to this day no one on this board has been able to tell me what Smitty did to earn this HC job...again..thankful for him...but its time for change...

I know that no one will agree...but I would love to hire Gruden. An offensive minded guy who would certainly take Ryan to the next level. I think Gruden and Ryan could have a football-minded connection very similar to Payton-Brees, McCarthy-Rodgers, and Belichick-Brady. Not to mention he would have no problem checking Ryan some of those horrible deep passes. I also thinks hes learned from the mistakes he made in Tampa as far as relating to players....

I already suggested Gruden too, but apparently few people here are interested in trying to acquire the services of a great young coach who's already won a Super Bowl. But yeah, I would like to see it happen. If I'm forced to endure many more games of this 1990s grind-it-out scheme of Smith's I'm gonna go postal on my tv set.

Gruden is an excellent developer of QB'S and likely would be a very good OC, but I have doubts about being a really good HC. He wonTampa's Super Bowl with 'Dungy's team' and really didn't do much afterward except to run a steady of Qb's through camp. That in itself suggest where "his heart is", but after being HC it's hard to 'drop back' where your real talent is.

I am apart of group uno; however, I am glad at least one other person other than myself and PokerSteve have finally echoed our sentiments: If you are going to blame the coordinators (while they are still employed here); then why not blame the head coach as well. If I didn't agree with anything else in your post, OP, I do agree that we should hold Smith accountable as we do with the coordinators. Here on the AFMB, it is as if Smith is the untouchable golden child angel of NFL football. Another thing I agree with are all the bullet points and reasons you mentioned about Smith.

HOWEVER, I will not say we should rid ourselves of anyone UNTIL AFTER I see what they do in the post-season.

I always find is interesting and ludicrous when people say Gruden won a SB title with Dungy's team. Ok, so Dungy couldn't win a SB with Dungy's team?????? That speaks volumes then about Dungy's ineptness in getting his team to the dance; and, speaks volumes to how Gruden came in in ONE SEASON and took them and actually WON IT.

Without Mike Smith- Never had back to back winning seasons

With Mike Smith- back to back to back to back winning seasons 3 playoffs appearances in 4 years

Yes. Get this clown out of here!

Clown?

How many back to back winning seasons did Dan Reeves have here?

Zero!

But Dan Reeves got us to the Super Bowl in his SECOND YEAR here folks.

And he did it with journeyman players on both sides of the ball. Not 5 for 1 draft picks and over priced free agents.

At the end of his 5th year he had 3 playoff victories.

The difference is that although Reeves did not have the back to back winning seasons, Reeves goal in the off-season was to PREPARE TO BEAT THE ELITE TEAMS SO YOU CAN WIN THE SUPERBOWL.

Mike Smith's off-season goal is to beat the have-nots and then hope for the best.

Oh well.
