Tandy Gossett
I'm not sure WTF is going on around here? We have so many post clog'n up the boards about Fire Smith/BVG/MM. Please Stop It!!! Until they got here we never had Back to Back Winning Season. Now we have 4 ... 4 ... I said M*thaF**king 4 In A Row!!! Yes it reminds me of the Braves of the 90's at times Winning but not Winning the Big Game ... That being said I will take Winning over Losing anyday. Everyday that Smitty is here we can wake up with a Chance! I'm not a fan of MM's offense, dink and dunking while WRs are wide open down the field. I believe MM will take the Jacksonville job and it will then be their problem. I think we bring in "Brother in Law" as OC and things get constructive. I agree that BVG is lax at times and on 3rd and 10+ he gets soft enough to give up the first instead of doing what got them to 3rd and 10+.After saying that I still enjoy Winning more than I Lose and if you guys that claim to be Fans have been here through all the crappy years of the 80's and 90's like I have then you would be enjoying the 4th Winning Season in a Row! I do believe if we Do Not Win a Playoff Game there will be No Chance that we get Tony G. back. He will sign w/ New England or somewhere that would give him a better chance at a SuperBowl. I hope this does happen, and I believe our team has been built for the playoffs. I don't think we showed our game plan this week on purpose. I think we wanted to see what NewOrleans had in a must win game for them to clinch. I don't think our Staff wanted to throw the kitchen sink to win a game that would be meaningless if NewOrleans beats the Panthers Sunday. I think we let them show their hand and we could have changed that game had we got the turnovers that were presented to us. There were some questionable calls in that game and had we won we would have beat the Officials as well.I think we stand a Great Chance to go a Longway in the Playoffs and we Need our players Healthy. This will be the key to going deep and I'm a little worried about Mike Peterson being out and a Rook having to fill in for him. Peterson is still very servicable and has made some plays that actually won us the Texans' game had there not been a BS penalty on D.Rob. We need to take it easy against Tampa, try to win the game but rest up our players as much as possible because they have 4 games to play after Sunday. All you people that come here to complain please Don't! We don't need your negativity and whinning. What good is it going to do to come and complain here? Mr. Blank, Coaches, Players, or anybody else that actually makes decisions for the Falcons comes here to read the garbage you post so it's pointless and a waste of time, so I'm asking that you ... Please spare us True Falcons' Fans from having to shuffle through your meaningless posts.Thank You!

Your idea of being a falcons fan is to watch year after year as this team under-achieves, plays some of the dullest, dumbest football of any team in the league, then completely blows up in the biggest games and looks like a gang of dazed school girls in the play-offs. Guess what, true Falcon fans want better than mediocrity and embarrassment every year. So think of yourself more like a true fan of Mike Smith and his staff rather than of the actual Falcon team. k-train
I just think it's a lot like whomever is President at the time. At first, everybody is a true believer, riding high on the hype, and willing to make excuses when things don't pan out quite how they were promised. After a few years of seeing the same problems not being properly addressed, and the promises (or "the process" in this case) not becoming a reality, people naturally start to question the people in charge.I don't really think the past means a thing in this situation either. Obviously, this is the most successful staff this team has ever had, but that's a moot point. The real issue is what these guys are going to do moving forward, not what other people did in the past. This staff seems to have plateaued, and that is the problem most folk have with them. Even Smith himself was quoted as saying that just making the playoffs is not the goal. They promised REAL success in 3-4 years when they got here. This is year 4, and this team has a long road ahead of it in order for that promise to come true. They have shown a significant amount of success with some big areas for improvement. They were able to take a team in the middle of an absolute crisis and turn it around for the fans instantly! That is unheard of. None of us are willing to tolerate these meltdowns against playoff teams on national stage but this instant gratification thing by a few makes some look like todays teenagers. I know I have 3 (oops 2 now). Point is, lets actually wait until we see how we perform in the first round of the p/o's then start screaming again. Plus, I doubt MS and TD are going anywhere. In fact, with what they have accomplished in their short body of work is rather incredible given our dire circumstances when they took over. Trust me I see some bigtime issues too but lets fix the line on each side of the ball first then see how good it can make coaches and coords look... Again, this is easily the most successful staff we have had... no doubt about that from anyone... and while everything they've done is wonderful, it still isn't the no.1 goal. All that regular season success doesn't change the cold, hard reality that In 4 years this group of coaches has shown an inability to make adjustments, an inability to have the players properly prepared for big games, a lack of killer instinct, and the propensity to be out coached on a regular basis.I hope to he11 we finally get that "no playoff wins under this regime" monkey off our backs, but I'm just saying that you can't blame others for looking at the situation objectively given what this team has shown. For the record, I personally don't have a problem with TD. I really like Smitty, but I think he needs some guys under him with a little more in their heads and hearts than the guys he currently has. Unless they go on a tear in the playoffs, it will be painfully obvious that this staff as a unit has peaked, and something will need to change. Until then, GO FALCONS! Until then, GO FALCONS!As far as adjustments... look what they got when they came in. They made tons of changes and where forced to because the team was screwed. No doubt expected to go winless. The falcons created starting a rookie QB and making the playoffs. Flaco got his job because of injuries. Ryan was taken over for worse or worse. There was no better. No they broke records, from winning seasons to back to back playoffs. People act like they would rather have a team like the lions who are lucky to even make the playoffs. Where every off season people think "this is the year we win it all". Only to get blasted and blown up and add another losing season to the books.Lack of killer instinct. Well look how many times the team has bounced back. Thats not happening because everyone gave up. They take it like a team. No 1 gets thrown under the bus and they bounce back no matter what happens and go for it.Ask yourself this... if you where a player on this team would you be in group 1 or group 2? ol'_dirty2
I'm sure as heck still proud and have definitely called for many a change in coaching philosophy. If the ones we have can get us turned around, then have at it. If not, they do need to move on, but I'm thinking that maybe...just maybe...these playoffs are gonna be a spark that this team has needed to light a fire under this regime. kiwifalcon
This staff seems to have plateaued, and that is the problem most folk have with them.Even Smith himself was quoted as saying that just making the playoffs is not the goal. They promised REAL success in 3-4 years when they got here. This is year 4, and this team has a long road ahead of it in order for that promise to come true.So your not happy with being a consistent winner then??????Not happy knowing that everytime the Falcons hit the field they have a legit chance to win everytime out now if you can look back over a 4 year stretch in the past that the Falcons have had can you please point out a 4 year stretch where you can say anything different than the above stated. One thing I do agree with we need to achieve play-off success no arguement there but being a fan of this team for 20+ years I'll take what we have now over anything we've had in the past because the word consistent hasn't been a word used in this Franchises history ever except when it came to losing.. putnam6
It's a message board it's the nature of the beast, **** I remember being in the old AOL boards with what seemed like 20-30 posters and even then there were split opinions like should we play that RB from Utah more or leave it to the known veteran Ironhead(RIP) if I remember correctly that coach preferred the vet too. I want differing opinions otherwise lets all sit here and sing Kumbaya. Other than the few trolls I am sure everybody here are Falcons fans otherwise what's the point. Yea I remember when Rankin said the 80's Falcons have reached a plateau and canned Leeman for Henning (ugh) knew immediately that was a poor decision. While I think they won't make any changes coaching wise this offseason what if they do? It's not beyond the realm of possibility this isn't your Daddy's Falcons and while there should be some enjoyment in winning seasons playoffs one division title. I **** sure know Blank,TD and Smitty aren't satisfied with that.
FalconFanForLife
Well once again I find myself as a wishy-washy take no stand middle of the roader. Like Tandy, I am extremely grateful to have a consistent winner here in Atlanta. But like PokerSteve I also want to do more than have a winning season.I think a lot of my perception of the current situation depends on how we perform in the playoffs. At a minimum we MUST have a playoff win. I don't think this team can go far in the playoffs, but hey that doesn't mean I am not hoping we do.One thing that keeps me optimistic about our current regime is they DO try to address our shortcomings every offseason, and I don't see how you can argue they do not. Maybe they don't get the right answer, BUT they keep trying to put all the pieces together. In last years embarrassing loss to the Packers, it was evident to everyone we needed a better pass rush, and another play making receiver to complement Roddy when they double teamed him. The Falcons went out and got Ray Edwards and Julio Jones as the missing pieces for last year's team. Now they haven't completely panned out like we hoped they would, BUT the point is the Falcons showed they are serious and trying everything in their power to take us to the next level.Folks that is a HELLUVA lot more than i saw our organization do in the many sorry decades before the current regime, when the Falcons just floundered around helplessly year after year as the laughing stock of the NFL with no clue what they were doing. For that reason, I think we all should wait to see how we do in the playoffs, and how they address our weaknesses this offseason before we throw in the towel.Personally, I don't need anything to enjoy being a Falcon Fan myself. Call me whatever ya want, I just enjoy watching my team year in and year out. They are like the presents under the Xmas tree each year: you just never know what you are going to get.Maybe that is the real attraction they have for me.We all have our own reasons for enjoying the Falcons, and we will never agree on everything concerning the team. However, that does not mean the poster you disagrees with should make you angry for not sharing your opion.OK I will get off my soapbox now. Until then, GO FALCONS!Well said. Tired of being sick and tired of watching this team bumble, fumble and stumble through every big game and every play-off wears thin after four years. I don't care how many stinking regular season wins we have. It's time for this coaching staff to put up or shut up in the play-offs.
