Matt Ryan=MAVERICK
I know it sounds crazy..may be the homer in me...but does anyone think there is ANY chance Smitty wanted to hold his cards until the playoffs. I REALLY think that may be the truth, as it pertains to the defense. How could he let the defense play that softly for an entire game?? Thoughts???????? Daddy's Home
Yes. It's crazy. You do realize this is not the first time we've been humiliated on national TV because of this regime.
Matt Ryan=MAVERICK
I just can't imagine Smitty and co. can be as STUPID and unprepared as they made themselves seem on Monday....
Chi City Falcon
Definitely wishful thinking. didnt want to show his hand, lol. i wish. we simply got our arses kicked plain and simple.
Guest JoeSr
I don't know man. I can honestly say this failed to cross my mind; it definitely did. We still had the division for which to strive. Edited December 29, 2011 by JoeSr
Aftermath
Smitty has been holding his cards for four years, either he is a **** of a bluffer or he really doesn't have anything in his hand.
birdz4i
absolutely not. there was a chance at the division.
RS91
I just can't imagine Smitty and co. can be as STUPID and unprepared as they made themselves seem on Monday....They are. It has taken me a while to come to the realization, but they are. We are turning into the effing Cowboys. Plenty of talent, but we always find a way to choke when the lights are brightest. lee sunset
Probably told Dunta and others "I want you to be exceptionally bad tonight..."
Butudontseeme™
If we were in a position like last ear where we had the #1 seed locked up, then maybe I would buy that. However, the falcons go out and get their feelings hurt on MNF by a team that is coached and executes better. There might have been "a little sumthin" they didn't put out there but that didn't lose this game.
Butudontseeme™
It seems to me that this team becomes complacent when they get too many days off. Similar to last years playoff game. The record coming off bye weeks is good but the long weeks like this one and the playoff bye last year seem to eff with our guys for some reason. {Mojo-Risin}
If it were the case, I would have zero respect for Smith anymore. You have the chance to win and possibly getting home field advantage for at least 1 playoff game. If he were to hold his hand because he'd rather play in New Orleans again or elsewhere instead of the dome, he can go right now.I seriously doubt he was playing his cards close to the chest. He showed his hand and at best, he only had a pair of two's. MM and BVG don't even have a pair.(Pun intended)
PokerSteve
I'm pretty sure if Mike Smith HAD showed his hand Monday night, you'd have seen he was waving a big white Surrender Flag... BigMikey
Right. He's just been playing Dunta all year to lull opposing offenses into a false sense of security, only to replace him with Darrin "Night Train 2.0" Walls come playoff time. BCEagleATLFalcon
Part of me wishes that were true because it would suggest we're going to win the most important of all three match-ups this year, but part of me would also be disgusted that Smitty didn't find the shot at the division worth playing for.Ultimately, we LOOKED like we didn't find the division worth playing for, but since I don't think our pitifully poor play was an act, it makes it hard to envision how we're going to win the most important of the three match-ups. Kind of the worst of both worlds.
Chi City Falcon
the thing about the "not showing his hand" bit..that would imply that he has something up his sleeve that would work, to which i would ask, why hasnt he used it yet? Brehus
That is about as bad as people in Houston believing the Texans lost to Indy on purpose to help prevent Indy from drafting Luck
UK13
This has to be a joke nobody could actually believe ( we didn't want to show our hand )
slick0ne
Man I hope that's not the case cause if it is I will be more than willing to show Smitty my hand........Across his face.
ol'_dirty2
He needs to show the back of his hand, his foot, both elbows and knees to anybody who coached or played in that game the other day...save a few brightspots like Matty Ice, Owens, and Moore.I'm turning the page...let's beat the Bucs and and least get more of the fans back believing. I'm sure the players are still thinking about trying to make a run but some of us are wondering how short this run will be. I'm hoping (with everything within me) that we throttle the bucs and come with some masterful defensive scheme for the playoff run. Offense too... Sleepy27
LOL!!! Wow is this what it has come to? If We somehow come into the playoffs just thrashing folks like Devastator and go onto win the superbowl Mike Smith will have pulled off the greatest trick the NFL has ever seen. Dem Birds
I'm not going to try to take credit away from the Saints, they beat us like pretty much always. Just worse than usual. We can't run against them for some reason and we can't finish drives against them. Which is terrible because their defense isn't very good. FalconFanForLife
Well I love the winning seasons since TD, Smitty and Ryan arrived here. But one thing hasn't changed from the "bad old day."The Falcons still "generally" stink it up in big time games.\Buy we have a chance in the playoffs to change that. I am keeping my fingers crossed, and my hopes high.

I REALLY think that may be the truth, as it pertains to the defense. How could he let the defense play that softly for an entire game?? Thoughts????????No he was out coached. New Orleans studied what we did the first time we played them. They game planned to counter what they felt we were going to do. The fist half our defense were fooled time and time again. We were just out coached plain and simple. If we're going to continue to play soft zone the Falcons need to figure out a way to put pressure on Brees. Otherwise New Orleans is going to have receivers running free all day long.
