Supes™
Who in here has NEVER had a bad day at work like the Falcons did Monday night? Nobody? C'mon, man! And when you had that bad day, that bad week, whatever, did you think you deserved to be fired? Be honest here, because to err is human. The game Monday night sucked elephant turds through a garden hose for our Birds, but let the record show that I for one still think going on a "fire 'em fest" is a knee-jerk reaction from a disappointed fan base that has somehow convinced itself that we'd be all but undefeated with different coordinators, and some are now calling for Smitty's head as well. Unbelievable! Is it possible that we got pole-axed Monday night by athletes on the field that wanted it more and played better? Yes. Is it impossible to think that we can extract revenge in the playoffs and knock 'em out of the tournament? No. That's why they play the game, folks, because anything is possible. If it wasn't, there would be no point in playing it. Rams beat the Saints. Chiefs beat the Packers. Joe Namath and his Jets beat the Colts! C'mon! It's very likely we'll be heading back to N'awlins soon. It's a great measure of a man (and a team) on how you face adversity and I for one am just glad we'll get a chance once again, this time with all the marbles on the table. Let the chips fall where they may and be glad that we'll at least have the opportunity to do better and maybe even whoop 'em. It could be worse, you know. We could be eliminated already. We have an OPPORTUNITY!It's not impossible! Ain't nothing over til it's over and guess what folks,...it ain't over! So for gawd's sake, stop trying to get everybody fired until it is, eh? twright21
What's funny is to watch some who say our team has no heart upbraid the guys on the team that say they'd love to have another shot at the Saints in two weeks. I'd be worried if they were saying, "No, man. We don't want any more of that."It was a bad night and it opens up wounds from last year, but it wasn't the end of the world. The reality is we're on the cusp of being an elite team but we're not there yet. Neither were the Cardinals a few years ago when they got housed by the Pats in the snow and were a crazy catch away from winning a Super Bowl.Let's let the season play out and then get our panties back in a wad. For now, I'll just stay pissed until playoff time and hope our guys do the same.

Guest Gritz
I hate to continue this semi-feud on the board that we have going on (not really-I'm lovin' it!) but I'm just not seeing all of this "FIre Smitty! Fire Everyone!" talk that you, Peyton and others of y'all's ilk are claiming have infested this board.I've seen a lot of pretty interesting comments and discussions about possible firings of one or both coordinators, but as I'm sure you know, that's not exactly cutting the Flowery Branch staff down to the quick, nor is it all that unusual to have those discussions if your team has become stagnant and not lived up to expectations (whether those expectations are from the fans, media or Mr. Blank himself).Of course we all want the Falcons to win this Sunday against the Bucs and in our 1st playoff game, whether it's against the Saints, Cowboys or Giants...But I can't for the life of me see how a healthy, respectful discussion about possible alternatives if we are "one and done" can be a bad or derogatory thing. yoyo0
- We will never be what the Saints are. They are a better franchise from top to bottom in every single way you can be. Ryan will never be Brees, Smith will never be Payton, and our fanbase will never be what the Saints fans are. Watching that game last night I couldn't help but think, "Man, those people look like they have so much fun every Sunday." New Orleans is a ...city of rich culture and historical significance. Atlanta is Frankenstein, built with so many different parts from different places that any sense of culture has long since been diluted. New Orleans has a soul, an identity and those fans share a culture of celebration and togetherness. Meanwhile, we have a city full of ******* ******* who still care about what color skin the person next to them has. Dressing up and chanting and generally just having a big party in the stands was really something to see. I thought I couldn't be any more jealous of them after they won the Lombardi, but I was wrong. I'm jealous that this city and this franchise, as far as sports go, will NEVER be New Orleans. PokerSteve
I know you're talking to me because I'm the only one calling for Smith's scalp that I'm aware of. And I'm not calling for him to be canned because of the Monday night humiliation. I'm calling for it because as head coach it's his responsibility to have his players ready to play, ESPECIALLY in the big games and against the top-tier teams in this league. Mike Smith has been an abysmal failure at providing that leadership as a head coach since he got here. Last night was just another glaring example of how completely unprepared this Falcons team was to play in this big game. They weren't just beaten, they were crushed, blown out, humiliated in every phase of the game.Nobody on this board or in this town would rather be excited about this team and looking forward to the play-offs than me, but with their pathetic performance in every game against good teams this year, how can I?? You'll probably say, Yes but we played the Saints close the first go-around... Again, it was Mike Smith who opted to go for fourth-and-one from our end of the field, using a play that was so bland, so predictable, it had no chance to make a first down. After four years of decent results against the bottom-feeders, it has become obvious we aren't competitive against top-tier teams, especially in the play-offs. Yes, I want to be optimistic, but the team and this coaching staff hasn't give me even one single reason to be, nor do any of these coaches show any capability to take this team to the next level. sanfranfalcon
this is what i KNOW i've observed...when it's time for the Falcons to come up big they don't/can't...PERIOD!!! and one can decide why that is all they want...but the fact is they do not. and i do NOT expect them to win a game in the playoffs. i'll be pullin' for 'em, no doubt. but i have zero confidence that they know how to win a big game...much less a win or go home game... Are you gonna be moping around with your head hanging down, talking about they have no chance, or are ya gonna be trying to help them rise up?Gotta get past Monday night and hope Smitty was correct in calling it an aberration. I'm not saying we're SB bound, but I'm betting we can do a whole lot better next time around with the Saints.

Based on the recent artwork I have been putting up on the boards I have a feeling both of them would like a word with me.....Not worried though. DeCoud would keep taking bad angles to get at me and I'd be able to bull rush or swim move my way past Baker with ease.

sanfranfalcon
What happen to FFs70 - trust me were beating the Saintsyep...see...it's those kinda statements that prevent honest dialog about this team. 'blind' optimism does NOT change the make-up of this team. quite frankly, there was NOTHIN' leadin' up to that game, durin' the course of the season, that warranted that kinda optimism or confidence that we'd go to NOLA and leave with a W!!! we didn't even get the win in our own building. let's keep it real as we 'hope' somehow, someday this team finds a way to really challenge the 'good' teams in the league!!! DET and TN...those are the signature wins this year...PERIOD!!! well...so far...see...still hopin'!!! Been to almost every Saints away game during that time - and almost all of our home games.Let me tell you, it has NOT always been that way for the Saints. There was a time I could easily get front row seats and aside from the die-hards, the stands were just okay - like ours. They won the Superbowl and now all of the Dallas fans who resided there are suddenly die-hard Saints fans - and they are showing up in force. Now - the old die-hards are still there, but believe me - it was not always like this.So keep looking at the greener grass on the other side. Mosey on over and nibble on it if you'd like. I'm waiting for our day - and it WILL come. When it does, I'm not going to be envying anyone. Period.Edit: Oh - and they do have a great team and great coaches. Under Sean Payton - their regular season record is:2006: 10-6, 1st in Division, 1 Playoff win - 1 Playoff loss2007: 7-9, 2nd in Division, no playoffs2008: 8-8, 4th in Division, no playoffs2009: 13-3, 1st in Division, Super Bowl win2010: 11-5, 2nd in Division, 1 and done in Playoffs2011: 12-3, 1st in Division - yet to be seenIt hasn't all been Super Bowl year after year for them either.
