Congratulations Saints Fans - And Thank You.

I was at the game. Shocked and dismayed at the results.

Honestly, I expected to be horribly harassed by the Saints fans, but it wasn't bad at all.

Surprising amount of class coming from a rival fan that just absolutely humbled and abused my team.

Don't get me wrong, you couldn't possibly have made me feel worse than the performance on the field did, but still, I thank you for not pushing me over the wall to hari-kari.

Yes, there was some hassling, but nothing that wasn't in fun and tempered with a little compassion. Shocking!

Congratulations on the win. The dagger sticking from my heart today is the crux I carry for loving the team I love. You guys must be flying high.

Aren't you the woman in your avatar picture? If so, one would have to be a mentally ill person to give you a hard time after that game. Talk smack to a nice lady like you? One would have to be drunk and deranged. Too bad there are lots of people fitting that description in every fanbase: drunk and deranged.

No, speaking personally, I could never talk smack and be cruel to a nice lady opposing team fan.

How was the rest of your trip to New Orleans?

Pre game in champions square was awesome. Game atmosphere was great, game not so much. Unfortunately, a drunk young 20 year old who was talking smack from the gate c to almost the Hyatt got mad my wife and I wouldn't acknowledge him and his ranting, stepped in front of us, and grabbed my wife while calling her names. Unfortunately for him, I'm a former police detective of 10 years and he got taken to the ground in an armbar and subsequently went to jail. My wife will most likely not attend another away game. Even worse, all the saints fans that observed it saw what happened and just kept walking as if nothing was going on, even though it was clear a 6'3" 20 year old drunk was assaulting my 5'2" 42 year old wife. Shameful....

Drunk and deranged people tend to do deranged things like that.

Now, speaking personally, I'm not deranged, but, if I were very drunk, I might have called out to your wife, "Hi , beautiful ! How about having a drink with me and talking some football ? "

You'd probably have done the same thing to me !

Good post Tandy. I was upset watching that debacle in The Superdome last night and couldn't imagine what it would have felt like being there in person. We have to learn from this loss and play like the team we know we can be and make some major noise in the playoffs.

Not likely. I know you dont have a shot in **** at my wife. Were very happily married. I'm also very slow to anger and we listened to his talk for 15 minutes. He put his hands on her and that is when it crossed the line.

I am so sorry that happened. No excuse for verbal abuse or other@$$clown behavior from anyone. Glad you gave him what he deserved. I understand your wife's reaction. I was on the receiving end of that from a Cowgirl's fan, no less, in, NOLA after the Saint's loss 12/2008. We have season tickets and I've only been to 2 games since. Hope you return to NOLA. It's a magical city. And thank you for your service as a peace officer.

15 minutes of harassment is totally insane ! That guy must have escaped from an insane asylum!

nice post tandy, saints fans are getting a lot better at handling success and not wallowing in other's misery and pain. although they did have legitimate reasons in the past to be obnoxious when it came to katrina remarks, etc, we have all come a long way

I've never really had problems going to the Saints away games, which is why it's one of the games I almost always travel to see. I had one incident where someone pushed me over the seats, but other fans immediately assisted me and they took that guy out of the game in cuffs. Seriously though, I expected a lot more humiliation exposure (lol). Still, the game was horrible from our viewpoint. I can't wait for another shot!

Yes, I'm a woman (and yes that is me in the avatar). I always enjoy my trips to New Orleans. I don't go to the Quarters very often, but I love it by the river and the music and food is to die for. My trip home was long and miserable though.

I'm sorry to hear about your wife. Let her know it is rare that those things happen at the Saints games. I've been going for 30 years - and only one time did I have an incident. Now, don't get me wrong - there's a lot of harassment when we lose usually, but nothing like that. I hope she feels better today?

This game was good for ATL in terms of being yet another example that our vanilla, soft defense is not going to cut it. As I have said before I love that Smith and co. have turned this franchise into a winner, but I believe we have hit the ceiling with him. He will not switch to a 3-4 or attacking defense. That will forever be a road block to this team being a super bowl contender. In terms of talent we can match up pretty well with the big boys, but a consistently conservative approach on both sides of the ball and always playing not to lose is why we'll be stuck as a second tier team for the foreseeable future.

That said, our players got beat up in terms winning battles vs. the guy on the other side of the ball. Ryan, Svitek, Gonzo and Moore were really good but other than that we were flat out pimp slapped.

Sounds like you had the situation well in hand. I probably wouldn't have done anything either though, unless you were asking for/needed help. Wish I could have seen it, I hate obnoxious fans. Guy got what he deserved.

I was also at the game and experienced just about the same thing. There wasn't too much smack talk going on and the people I were sitting around were pretty friendly. I was a few seats away from Ryan Cameron and he and his friend were getting it pretty good, but that's only cause Ryan's friend was making a big deal about every first down and pointing to the scoreboard when it was 10-7 lol. The saints have some very very passionate fans.

I was wondering if you made it down for the game. For the most part saints fans are real cool. Of course you will always have or two clowns. I feel the same way about making the trip to atlanta. It is a must and the falcon fans are really cool. I think it might be a little different though cause there are so many saints fans in atlanta though.
