Is There A Coach Out There Who Can Turn This Team Into An Elite Team?

I think Cowher could. I wish Mr. Blank would get to talking to him before SD makes a deal with him. I doubt it will happen, Mr. Blank probably won't part with Smitty unless he feels his health could be compromised by staying.

I feel like there is a window of opportunity the team has with some of our best players and by the time Mr. Blank figures out Smitty can not get it done, it will be too late.

No, because there is not enough talent. I do think there are coaches that can make an improvement, but at the end of the day, the coaches can only work with what they have.

You almost sound like these coaches don't have much to work with, and I really hope you're not saying that.

I think Mularkey has plenty to work with. On defense, our fans overrate some of our players, and others just plain suck and we even know it. Thomas DeCoud comes to mind.

People tend to think in just black and white, either/or terms on this subject......

Like most situations that have multiple problems, the reason the Falcons aren't currently an elite team has many reasons. It's not just the coaches.

We have greatly overrated both of our lines. We have major holes at both LT and RG on the O-line. Svitek ideally should be a backup and only looks good when compared to the pathetic Sam Baker.....and Garrett Reynolds/Mike Johnson/ Hawley haven't exactly put their stamp on the guard slot have they?...especially when it seemed to be a viable idea to slide Baker over there for a few plays against the Panthers....DANG.....

Dline-Peria, bust, Babineaux, underachieved this year....Peters, fine..Walker, good rotational player. Abe-flashes but consistent? Not anymore....Ray Edwards? Ray, RAY! over here....model your underwear on your own time....Sidbury.... really good flashes but horribly out of position at times and still a huge sucker for misdirection and play action. Biermann hasn't been the same since he hooked up with the tranny reality show star.....

A myriad of other personnel questions I could amuse myself with commenting on....but it clearly isn't just the coaches.

i actually believe that Smitty would be fine here for the foreseeable future if he would jettison both of his coordinators. Think of it this way Smitty:

It's part of the process.

The guy has taken this franchise from never having back to back winning seasons to four consecutive winning seasons and two consecutive trips to the playoffs and some of you want to see Smitty gone already???!! This board is pathetic sometimes!! Dang, reminds me of when the Smiths got rid of Leeman Bennett in favor of Dan Henning because they felt we had reached a "plateau"!

Smitty ain't going anywhere, but the FO needs to put some pressure on him by canning some of his favorite positional coaches. Hamilton, Robiskie would be a nice start. I think Mularkey is gone, no matter what. The FO needs to bring in a someone who will light a fire under this pansy boy team.

Your last 3 sentences sez it all.

Yup.

That's an interesting comment. I wonder do you think that the niners are overall more talented than the falcons? I don't recall them making that many spectacular moves during free agency so its essentially the same team as last year but the coaching staff came in and has turned them into contenders.

Exactly right, and there has to be a coach out there somewhere for us.

Look what Wade Phillips did for the Texans. I think you guys have solid players, just need a difference in coaching staff.

Wade Phillips was already the coordinator for the Falcons. The Falcons finished dead last in yards allowed and points allowed when he was here.

He also had the defense that gave up the most yards in Falcons history in a single game.....ironically enough to a Pittsburgh offense coordinated by.......that's right....Mike Mularkey.
