Random ramblings:

  • FA signing by the Falcons: Peerless Price, Ed Hartwell, Ray Edwards, Dunta Robinson - man do we know how to make good players into bad ones. The only FAs that actually performed to expectations in the last few years were Rod Coleman and Mike Peterson.
  • The OLine is no longer good at running blocking. It's average at best at pass protection. Apparently they're not athletic enough to effectively run screen passes. Do we miss Harvey Dahl this much?
  • Last night I saw GW often bring more guys than the Falcons had protecting - did it ever cross BVG's mind to do this?
  • The Falcons are losing the battle at the LOS on both sides of the ball.
  • Harry Douglas was targeted once in the whole game??!!
  • Was anybody else annoyed that in the 3rd quarter with the score 28-10 or 31-13 that we were running no-huddle with 2 backs in the game?
  • I thought the Dead Zone was a Stephen King book and not the Falcons inside the 20.
  • So Atl gets the ball back with 24 seconds left in the first half at their 20. They have 2 TOs left. They hand off to Turner for about 5 yards and call TO then they hand off again for about 4 yards and call TO again. On 3rd and 1 they have Ryan throw up a Hail Mary to JJ which is broken up. So they have 4th and 1 with 2 seconds left and force Ryan to run around for 2 seconds to kill the clock. Can anybody explain to me what the logic was behind this - cause I sure as shyte can't and it really makes me question Smith and/or MM.
  • It seems like every time we try a trick play, the other team knows it's a trick play - e.g. the opening play of the game, 3rd possession of the game on 3rd and 1 and we roll out to have the pass to Kelly broken up, on 4th and 2 in NO's red zone another roll-out only for Ryan to see 2 blitzers right in his face.
  • Do you get the impression that if it is 3rd and short or 4th and short and we throw the ball that the other team's DBs know we're throwing a quick slant to JJ or Roddy or TG? Did you ever get the impression that we'd take a deeper drop and threaten them 10-15 yards downfield? Does this have something to do with our protection? Yup, yup, and yup.

I screwed up my own rant - the underlined should be 'nope'.

I agree with a lot of these but I also say we've enjoyed 4 years of excellent football that we as Falcons fans have never seen. Yes bring the kitchen sink. Yes, have Ice throw it up downfield and let your WRs make a play. Stop trying to be perfect. Make more back shoulder throws and let the WR adjust. Put in Quizz for more touches (what was the point of drafting him if not), run more screens, be more creative. MM must go, yes, pass blocking should be improved, also plays should be called to counter act bliztes and slow them down. All in all Ice wasn't sacked, a lot of that credit goes to him! More man coverage less zones...

I really believe with Turner slowing down and this Oline that we need to throw more just to open up the running game! Agreed on Rodgers and more touches for Snelling too!

I've been saying for awhile that this offensive line would get us killed before the 2011 season was over. I was also baffled by the offensive playcalling, we ran a lot of no-huddle but it didn't seem like we were ever actually in any hurry to put some points on the board. I get the feeling that the reason defenses always seems to know when a trick play is coming is because we make it obvious with the setup, like putting Julio in the backfield and a bunch formation on the other side, and trying to run a quick flip to Julio when that would seem like the most obvious way that play was going.

That's what I'm thinking too.

well I turned it off and started playing Call of Duty about 10pm est lol

Saints are just killer man, they will probably win it all now that their D is playing better

and as far as FAs

well lets not Forget M Turner

yea the Oline is pretty Horrid

not as bad as it was to start the season, but still not good enough to go anywhere but home in the playoffs

Red Zone O , i dont know if i should laugh or cry...its bad

MM and BVG should both be fired

bring in Norv Turner and Herm Edwards and lets compete with Saints.....

B2R, you're truely one of the good guys here. I feel for ya after a losslike that man. You desdrve to vent. I been pretty quiet on this one, both out of respect for the good guys like you, shred, Cheffie Rev 420 and a couple of others, and the fact, as Ive said often, the team I follow aint much to brag on either.

The other RCers, and they know who they are and what they can take a big suck on, deserve all the pain they are feeling right now, but I do wish the ones like you some good times ahead.

I appreciate the sentiment PP - very classy. It almost makes we want to cheer for Dallas on Sunday tongue.png
