Atlanta_Dawgs46
This is ridiculous.I hate to say it, but I'm not surprise by the result. I really can't stand watching our defense. His zone philosphy is plain horrible. Elite quarterbacks prove that they can pick this defense apart. Rookie quarterbacks has succcess though they might not win, but they had success with this defense. Our run defense might be good (obviously not last night), but when a team can throw all over you why run. This team need a change of direction in defensive philosophy. It horrible when we are up 13-20 points and a team come back. Everytime I watch the Falcons go up by a nice margin, I'm preparing for a let down by the defense (too conservative). No killin instint. Peyton
You think we should fire him today or after the season?
capologist
Yeah zone is fine if you are getting a consistent pass rush but sometimes you've got to mix it up in order to achieve that and he simply doesnt...

Sandy5prings
If Ram's HC Steve Spagnuolo is fired, can we really get him as our DC? He's a 4-3 guy and developed great pass rushers with the Giants. The key to stopping teams like the Saints and Packers is to get pressure without blitzing all the time. He remind me of Willie Martinez when he was at Georgia. I know you know what I'm talking about.
Falcons_own_nfc_south
After the season. After we are 1 and done... we fire his arse in the ground.. AB gives him pink slip during the game and calls play himself.. lol

We have been talking about the "Bend but don't break" style since 2008. Its not going to cut it against good teams. We "can't" pressure good teams with our front 4. We need more pressure with the number of guys brought after the QB. I don't care if you show blitz, you just better be able to get there and disrupt the QB. Saints showed blitz a lot, and guess what, Falcons still had a hard time dealing with it. Matt made some good quick throws, but he got hit, bumped and pressured all night. Despite the success throwing the ball, he didn't have time when he needed it most.

DixieTwister
Last night the D could not do much right. much of the blame should go to the coaches and some to the players. reason- they're not doing their homework. remember our GB playoff last year. If i remember correctly the corner Williams intercepted and ran back for score. he was asked about that after game and replied " i remembered that formation and knew the ball was going to white". so he baited ryan and played back and waited for the exact moment to break on the ball for the int. Point being, he studied the falcon offense either on his own or with the GB staff supplying material. My main point is, why is our defense and staff not studying their opponent like this? I am only assuming they aren't preparing because the players aren't stupid people and I've never heard one of our players make a statement like the GB player did. Sandy5prings
Other than Spagnuolo, who are the top-notch D.Coord's in the market for next year?If Romeo Crennel doesn't get the HC job in Kansas City, can we get him? Anyone else?I know moving from 4-3 to 3-4 is big, but teams have done it successfully before.
falconut-1991
He should have been fired after he got exposed in the playoff loss to GB last year. I didn't understand how he kept his job after that. The front office fix in the offseason was to go out and get a WR. I'm fine with Jones, but how does that fix the defense? That was the issue Atlanta had against the Packers last year. Now a year later, he's exposed again. I really hope he's gone after the season, but I can't get excited until it's done. I don't want to get fooled again.
The Don™
Getting REAL tired of our soft zone, no press, play 10 yards off the receiver, let the opposing team convert 3rd and long type defense. I've heard people say that is Smitty's style of defense and BVG is doing what Smitty wants him to. If that's the case, Smitty needs to change his ways of thinking on the defensive side of the ball.I've heard TD say numerous times that he wants an aggressive defense that strikes fear in opposing offenses. With the soft type defense we play, it's obvious TD, Smitty, and BVG are NOT on the same page. TD is not going anywhere, so Smitty and BVG better get their shi* straight and shore up the pass defense and DL.
Peyton
Let's see what happens in the playoffs. If the Falcons have a similiar game plan and result, I might even get on board with this. But I want to see what happens in the playoff game first.

lju713
We need someone who's scheme fits to his players strength's.BVG is stubborn and he thinks its all about the scheme, hoping the offense will make a mistake instead of attacking the offense. But I want to see what happens in the playoff game first.I don't us magically changing our philosophy all of a sudden. The coaches like to stick with their philosophies and schemes. Expect more of the same problems we've been having on defense and offense. Lack of pass rush, giving up 3rd and longs on defense, and OL's inability to pass protect. Those are our three biggest issues. Heck, I've seen crazy stuff, so I'm not saying we don't improve in those three areas in the playoffs, but it's not probable. falcon1968
Could the falcons have thrown this game for brees to get his numbers on monday night football? WE are not that bad. played the same zone defense all night long and all this game we happen not to be able to stop a weak run team? look at the last td he made.. between 3 defenders an the deline was just standing there making no rush against him. Dont think games or not thrown in sports because they are.

I just hope they learn from the mistakes and next year come back with a different DC and scheme.
