Joremarid
my official response is it's our job to stop them, but it's not something i would have done.peyton manning didn't go for the td pass record in a similar situation against the ravens. for the record the fans there hated it.But after kneeling twice in the final minute to run out the clock and passing up a chance at tying Marino's record, the Colts' franchise player drew an unexpected reaction from the crowd -- boos. "I can't get over the crowd booing like that," said Manning, last season's league co-MVP. "I hope those were Baltimore fans, because that's what you're supposed to do."http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=241219011

Football is in fact simply entertainment. The Saints gave their fans what they wanted. Peyton obviously still has a mindset cultivated in Pee Wee football, which might be classy, but obviously left his fans disappointed. FalconinPA
It's embarrassing to even have our fans whining about this. I would love to see the Falcons completely stomp the life out of a Saints team. We're to busy being average and classy.Right on again Darkflight
PSSSHHHRRR87
I have no problem with what the Saints did. It was their last home game and there were 60000 fans that paid to see the record broken. If the Falcons didn't want the Saints to run up the score, maybe they should have done something about it the 2nd quarter when they began to fall behind... maybe blitz a LB or use press coverage or something... Tandy
My take on it is this. It may not be something we would do - but if they didn't like it - they should have stopped it. The bigger question is - why did we let them run the score up?

vabchbirdlover
You did it the week before.... Just sayin....Really? Pulled most of our starters at the end of the 3rd qtr, thereby eliminating the possible injury to key players in a game already decided on the scorebord. NO, on the other hand had a sizable lead at the the end of the 3rd qtr and kept pouring it on, why? For a indivuial award for Mole Boy. Personally, don't mind the record breaking part, and as others have said, if you don't like it - Stop it. Would have been real sad had Breejesus suffered a serious injury in the 4th qtr, all in the chase of an indiviual award. Just sayin Edited December 28, 2011 by vabchbirdlover
metrymudbug
Yes the Saints were right. If the Falcons dont like it, then stop it. The Falcons still havent done a thing about the Saints posing and pissing on our logo. So they can cry all they want and the Saints are just going to keep humiliating them. We have some weak players. No kille instinct or mentality. We need a James Harrison type on our team.Uh..a joke was made (in bad taste), but nobody actually urinated on your logo.and you have the right to hold that opinion. you may have done that in that scenario, i wouldn't have and i disagree that it was the right thing to do. if the fans boo, the tough crap, get over it, im not compromising my principles to please them.Payton wasn't trying to run up the score, he was giving Brees a chance to get the final 30 yards and there just happened to be only 33 yards to work with. If the Saints had taken over at the 50 and he broke the record while reaching the 20 yard line, Payton probably would have pulled Brees out then. If, on that final series, Brees had only needed 15 yards, wouldn't it be silly to wait another week to go for the record with all the media distractions that would entail? In this case, it was 30 yards. It's not like he was 100 yards shy. Edited December 28, 2011 by metrymudbug

Up 35 points in the third quarter against a Jaguars team that was averaging less than 20 points a GAME and who had done NOTHING the entire game against the falcons, and STILL throwing deep for NO reason. No record in reach for little Matty. But, of course the Falcons will whine... its what they do.

Jagdawg
What about what Dunta Robinson said about the Jaguars after that game. Falcons blew the Jaguars out.Yeah.. they did. And ran their mouths then too. Like I said... its what they do. Saints blew the Falcons out, and didn't see the need to run their mouths, other than basically to apologize for the can of whoop a... they opened. BankerBird™
You know why teams "run up the score"? Because they can. That's the Falcons' problem, not the Saints.

Which is why I blame the Jags for the lopsided score against the Falcons, not the Falcons. The Jags D had nothing for the Falcons. But for y'all (a large number of you anyway) to turn around and complain this much when the shoe is on the other foot? C'mon Man! vabchbirdlover
I have no problem at all with Brees going for the record.Niether do I, but imagine the backlash had he suffered an injury in a game already decided for the sake of an indivuial record. Bottom line - Like it or not, Brees is the catalyst of the Saints and for him suffer an injury in the 4th qtr, in a game already decided, pretty much kills any chance the Saints have in progressing far in the playoffs. At New Orleans' first possession in the 4th qtr the score was 31-16. Who was thinking the Falcons were already out of it at that point? The Falcons then forced the Saints into 2 straight 3-and-outs where Brees got zero passing yards. It was only on the Saints third and final possession that Brees clicked on 3 plays to get the final 30 yards he needed for the record. If Brees hadn't gotten the record against Atlanta, he would have faced the same 'risk' of injury vs Carolina, wouldn't he? Unless you're thinking he should be benched in the finale and forgo a shot at the record. Get real. LADBABY
The humiliation was on us not them. We got abused and did not have a plan B toregain our composure. That was just entertainment for the home crowd and the gameof football. What better place than Monday Night Football to break a record. It wasn't that long ago that we got Jerious Norwood loose on a long one and he highstepped 20yds.into the end zone. I enjoyed that. I thought it was great. Very disrespectful!
