What Marino and Fouts did in the 80's is more impressive considering all the rule changes since then. Back then CBs were mugging WRs all the way down the field and QBs were getting hit hard after releasing the ball.

Actually, the rule forbidding any contact past 5 yards was also instituted in 1978. It's been the same ever since, with the exception of the number of penalty yards awarded. I'll grant you the QB hits, but that's only after the ball was released, so it really doesn't affect passing stats.

Offenses these days just have better gameplans, and fitness regiments and sports science has increased, that's all. Doesn't take away from any of it.
