Week 2: On The Backs Of The Offensive Line

Title says it all Falcons Fans.

Realistically, lets just go ahead and admit the defense will have its fair share of mistakes and bonehead "mess ups," to put it nicely, but this game comes down to being able to protect Ryan.

Historically, the Eagles Front 7 has always given Ryan a tough time, especially Trent Cole.

Two things cannot happen with the o-line:

1.) Baker (the worst draft pick of all for TD) MUST NOT be asked to block one-on-one, with anyone. I don't care if it's an undrafted rookie lined up against him, we must put a TE on that side to help protect Ryan.

-- Just watch. If Baker is asked to block one-on-one consistently, we will lose. Plain and simple. This guy is just awful.

2.) If the O-line is struggling early, we need to finally implement a screen-passing game to the RBs.

-- I don't care which RB it is, but I'd prefer Snelling.

-- I haven't been able to understand why Mularkey refuses to utilize the HB screen, especially when defenses "Tee-Up" against our o-line, but this must become a factor if the line is struggling early.

We can, and should win this game.

The Eagles have huge weaknesses defending the run and protecting the pass.

-- These are two areas that with effective play-calling and even semi-productive execution, any NFL team can take advantage of to squeak by even an explosive team like the ******** Iggles.

RISE UP!

I agree that we can't leave Baker one on one with Trent Cole or Jason Babin. Get Reggie Kelly over there and help him stop the Eagles' edge rushers. Clabo can hold is own on the other side. We'll also need Hawley and Reynolds to do a much better job of containing inside pressure - like Cullen Jenkins. I'm worried about our pass blocking situation.

I am NOT, however, worried about or running blocking. That's why I think we need to come out Sunday night and pound the **** out of the Eagles' front seven. I want to see Turner rush 30 times, Snelling rush 10-15 times, and Quizz get a handfull of snaps and catches as well.

We also need the defensive line to have a repeat performance of last week, which I think is very possible. The most important thing on defense, I believe, will be our linebacker play: we have to contain both Vick and McCoy, or at least do better than we did against Forte and Hester.

Do you all think we'll try to keep a permanent spy on Vick? If so, who will it be? My guess would be Spoon, but I'm not sure he's mentally up to the task just yet.

You know, I've always wondered why teams don't do this, but it's because Vick will break the ankles of any LB that tries to spy him in the middle of the field.

Spoon has the speed, maybe, but he certainly does not know how to tackle...

I'm hoping we wont even have to worry about spying him because ABE will have him dead to rights in the backfield.

I disagree, I think its time for our DB's and LB to shine, they have been a weakness for some time. I truley believe the sceme is partially responsible but in the end players play. I played and never got in trouble for "making a play". It is past time for our D to grow a set and play some ball.

While I hear you loud and clear, man, I have been holding my breath for this miracle to happen for 4 years.

We just have to accept the fact that as long as BVG is our coordinator, we will always have a "hit or miss" (sometimes literally) defense.

The offense, highlighting the line, needs to carry this team as it always has.

The Eagles D is radically different than it was last season. In many ways it's better but there still are a couple things they need to work out. The MLB Matthews is the whipping boy in Philly but the WLB Fokou might be more at fault for the problems they had against the run.

The Eagles have lots of good D-tackles though and will test the interior of the line.

I see where you're coming from, but I still think a spy could help contain/control Vick... if you leave your spy on one half of the field, it at least contains Vick into running to the other half. I'd leave the spy on his left, since he's left-handed, and force him to run to his right. Then you hope that he runs into defensive lineman on his blind side that he didn't see coming.

I think last sunday as poorly as Matt and the offence played ...if our defence had showed up and made a play or two ,,,,things would have been different. I agree that BVG needs to go but at some point its on the players. Coaches cant block and tackle or run and catch, players have to play.

I think this is why we're going to see Hayden on the field over Owens... and quite possibly Sanders in over DeCoud. DeCoud could have turned that game around with not one, but two interceptions in the red zone. In today's pass-happy offenses, defenders HAVE TO catch the ball when it is RIGHT IN THEIR HANDS.
