Knight of God
First off I have never been a huge fan of our style of DT's, but right now I am more edgy than ever about it. Peters coming off of an injury, Jerry is like ???, Walker is pretty decent, and then we have Powell. This is not good. We haven't had an anchor since '07 and he was replaced. The DL has suffered ever since. babineaux is a good football player but I have often wondered if he's be better with a guy who has some actual "Beast" in his heart.Right now I am actually wondering why not get someone somewhere and not wait until we start bleeding. I know that many here love what we do, but that rush up the middle has only been in spurts. What's the deal?
cannonballsghost
I've been on record here for years saying we need a big monster DT to anchor the def line this line when not injured is not bad but it still needs a big smelly bad attitude DT IMOsam

I cannot stand having a team full of DE's playing the interior and then we still not have that beastly pass rush as advertised. It reminds me of playing a WR at TE because of his athleticism and speed. Something is going to be severely lost.

Jerry has not impressed. Maybe he will in the end, but he just don't seem to keep good leverage.
The Falcon Jedi Knight
Jerry is a bust, considering where he was drafted. He should have been a 4th or 5th round pick. Drafting DTs is a crapshoot, you either hit it or miss badly. Corey Peters is much better than Jerry, but he's always hurt. The only DT worth a crap we have is still Babineaux, but he's gonna be out for a month. We're screwed up the middle.
Falcons Win
Jerry is not a bust at all FFS. He's been freaking hurt, are you joking. Injury not = bust. You're crazy.

I"m not calling him an all pro but its hard to call him a bust. I think this year will tell a lot about him and if he doesn't produce this year then he'll be much closer to a bust than he is now. The Falcon Jedi Knight
Ive watched Jerry play. He has no fire, no nasty. He just fills the spot. I know he's been hurt all the time, but he was healthy this pre-season and I didnt see much out of him.
FalconMama
I was watching the Ravens and I really envy them for having Haloti Ngata. He's big, powerful, athletic and he creates havoc against offenses. I know we don't run the 3-4 but that dude is a monster.. Other than Babs I don't like any of our DT's and that's where the problem lies in our defense imo. No interior rush who's collasping the pocket from the indside?. Having a big DT would make Lofton so much better, it would free up blockers and allow him to make more plays.. I hate the size of our DT's always have and since it doesn't seem like it will change I always will lol.
Knight of God
Ole Miss fan here. He is not playing like he did before. If a guy does not produce, injury or not, that makes him a bust. Not sure where this nicey nicey crap originated, but it gets no play in my house. The Falcon Jedi Knight
We need a Big Fat Grady Jackson again. He was awesome. He just fell forward and knocked the OG down in the backfield.

takeitdown
Unlike you KOG and CBG, I'm a big fan of the quick, penetrating DT. Coleman did great even when he just had 5th round scrubs with him. Imagine having 2 Rod Colemans side by side. That would be a nightmare for QBs. The problem is, we don't have either right now. We don't have a huge pocket pusher, or a quick penetrator. If we had Babs and Darnell Dockett...that would be a great DT combo...but you need both DTs to be able to be a matchup problem.Of course, a Suh, Ngata would be optimal. Anyway, just coming on to say I don't think a space eating blob gets it done either...we just need REAL talent at the position. They need to be able to push into the pocket whether it's by force or explosion. You can't get by with neither.

Both penetrated well though. I don't believe that two smallish guys will have much success and truth be shown they haven't.

Rai
There were two big and disruptive DTs in play in FA. One went to the Saints, the other went to the Patriots. Don't know why we didn't bother getting either, even though both have shown that they're pretty dominant.

ditchdoc57
I think its a product of our defensive style. We have a hold your ground and clog the holes and let the DE and LB's make the play. Our Linebackers are not good enough to let our tackles penetrate because if they do and miss it will be a long gain. We dont play a gap D, we play more of a man up.
