What Kind Of Defensive Package Would You Throw At Vick?

I Would rush the four down lineman and designate 1 QB spy to pick up any runs by Vick. Is it just me or has anyone noticed that quarterbacks seem to be able to run and pick up first downs on us at will?

Play mostly man not soft zone....

And Blitz he still has trouble seeing it coming.

Vick will pick apart a soft d, the best way to attack the Eagles offense is playing press coverage with deep safety's and applying pressure off the edge. He's human, like Brady, Brees, Manning, if you get pressure on the quarterback it can make them pedestrian.

easy...(in theory) you gotta have a spy, and make him roll to his right on every pass play. He was exposed the last 4 weeks of the season with this very philosophy, but no doubt BVG will rush 3 and play zone defense.

spy does work, but make him roll to his right on every pass play and hit him hard, even if it draws a 15 yard penalty every now and then. he runs enough where the officials will hesitate throwing the flag because of his running ability.

Yes we can. we get pressure just sending four. The problem is....our secondary seems to like watching the other team catch the ball. Send 4 and reserve a spy, and he wont be able to use those "playmakers"

Put a deignated spy on Vick, press the WRs at the LOS, molet them for the whole 5 yards and bring consistant pressure from vick's left side and make him roll out to the right, keep that spy waiting for him on the right side if he decides to scramble. Bring in blitz packages and disguise them well so vick doesn't know where there coming from.

Now this is what we are going to do, play 15 yards off the LOS, try to pressure vick with our front four and let vick run for 200 and throw for 400 while the city of atlanta cheers him on as if the falcons were winning the super bowl

Cover 2 while blitzing his strongside on a regular basis to flush him out of the pocket in a way where he's throwing against his body. Also, designate a spy for McCoy to blow up the screens they love to run as quickly as possible.

The box score shows the Eagles were 8-for-13 on third down, but that includes the kneel-down at the end of the game.

Vick was 7-for-8 for 70 yards and a touchdown on third down. That translates to a QB rating of 153.1. He targeted six different receivers on third down, and five of them had catches that moved the chains (Jackson, Maclin, Avant, Celek, McCoy).

Jason Peters and Todd Herremans are both veryyyy good in pass protection..If I were Vick and the Falcons only sent their 4 down lineman I would be licking my chops.

Just watched Round Table on NFLN and Deon had an excellent point that the Eagles receivers like to run long routes like flys and deep post and don't go over the middle on short routes. So I would like to see our CBs play off and not get burnt deep. Use Spoon as a spy on Vick and hope we can stop the run and the screens. And please for the love of god, get off the field on third down!!!

Spys don't work any more because that's going to leave someone like maclin or McCoy running free in the middle.

If Hayden is ready then I think you have to use packages with 3 safeties. One (likely Moore because of his speed) just rushes the QB on most plays to keep him uncomfortable

First off, the first mistake you make is listening to Deon Sanders. Second of all, yes the Eagles do have some routes that take longer to develop but it's also still a west coast offense. Jason Avant goes across the middle, Steve Smith goes across the middle, and Maclin will too, even DeSean if given some space. It doesn't make sense to spy him anymore unless you have a guy like Charles Woodson who can match his speed because he can now sit in the pocket and deliver the ball to his play makers while there's a defender watching him do it.

This is why I think Vick got so uncomfortable at the end of last year. The Giants showed everyone that if you don't give the receivers 5 seconds to run before getting to Vick that he isn't smart enough to make a quick decision and you can really shut him down

Now what we will do....

Play like a top 10 defense on 1st and second down....

3rd Down... 3-3-5 Rush 3 everyone else play soft zone so the QB can just sit there and wait for a reciever to find a hole in the defense and then throw a first down....

Yeah good idea. Assuming Spoon will actually tackle Vick instead of trying to knock him out of bounds from the hash mark.
