Game Plan Vs. The Eagles? Thoughts?

How should we approach the eagles? And how should the Falcons as a team approach this game, and any game for that matter?

Here's my arm chair QB thought's on the subject.

First off, I think the Falcons need to do anything and everything that has been successful for them in the past to start the game, RUN FIRST! In my opinion that controls the tempo of the game and keeps them in command of what's going on as far as offense goes. This keeps the defense honest and forces them to RESPECT the Falcons running game, meaning the Falcons can try a few surprise plays every now and then. Don't abandon the run until they show you they can stop it. If it's working for ya, WHY STOP? If it's not, then "WHY NOT A SCREEN?", or something else.

As for defense, Play smart, Maybe play man on man for a lot of the game to keep vick trying to stay in the pocket. Try and MAKE vick ONE DIMENSIONAL, trust in Abe and Edwards to cover the corners, if Jerry can get pressure up the middle then it's going to be a bad day for vick.

I'm not saying this is the game plan, I'm just saying this is a few suggestions.

Actually, FORGET what I just said unless you like it or want to build on it or add to it. The thing is I wanna hear YOUR GAME PLAN FOR THIS GAME?????

What do you think the Falcons need to do on offense and defense to win against the eagles?

I ain't scared!!!! Corrections will be made and the Falcons can defeat vick and the eagles!!!! How it's going to be done remains to be seen at this point in time.

Thoughts on how to defeat the eagles?

Definitely agree here get Turner going early as control TOP will be the key here long drives and try and keep the Eagles offense on the sidelines for as long as possible.

NO TURNOVERS

I hope the Falcons coaches realize this. It's so obvious. They made some stupid moves, especially when they tried a few calls using Jacquizz Rodgers as a power back running back up the middle. That was just plain stupid! What'd they expect? You have to consider the situations before making that kinda call before making that kinda call.

Whatever the case, Antone Smith won that position in my opinion and should have been on the field, not the rookie. Either way it was what it was.

I really hope my original post via Jay Adams makes it way to the Falcons coaches because I think it makes sense. But that's MY GAME PLAN.

We shall see.

I have started this "GAME PLAN" thread a few times, even in the pre-season games.

"Wouldn't it be awesome for us as fans to call one play per game and have it actually happen???????????". Talk about an arm chair QB suggestion.

I don't see the harm in that, but that's just a suggestion. I doubt it will ever happen. My suggestion would be a "SCREEN".

Oh well, I guess I'll dream on and keep on cheering for the Falcons!

GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would come in 4WR sets, spread the defense, then let Turner loose. dude has shown you CAN'T arm tackle him. force teams to try to contain him and when they do then take a few shots to keep teams honest. even if it's a throwaway, air it out anyway. you don't necessarily have to go for the kill but once Turner gets going, watch how this line that sucks so bad start looking like All-Pros

I don't have faith in our defense at all at this point.

I agree with everything except this... not that I'm hammering you about it, I just think their better then what game 1 shows us. The offense made it look even worse too. All we need to do is fix our tackling issues. However, losing Babs is gonna hurt big time though.

I completely agree!! I've RARELY seen our offense "spread the field" to execute THE running game. By doing so, you automatically create NATURAL RUNNING LANES. Too often, we jump into a "power set" to run the ball, which is a DEAD GIVEAWAY, in my opinion. Our coordinators need to approach this like a game of chess...It's pretty hard to keep the defense "GUESSING", if you tip them off with your offensive formations. Also and despite the fact that the Eagles have 3 Pro Bowlers at CB, I like the way our WRs matchup against them. Asomugha is not Deion Sanders...Last week against the Rams showed that he can be had.

On defensive is where our biggest problems lie. Honestly, I feel the Eagles offense is a bad match up for our defense and recent history has proven that. Now, our defense has the challenge that we had the luxury of not having to worry about in past years....HOW TO STOP MIKE VICK! My first inclination would be to man up and blitz the living crap out of him ALL GAME, but that could turn into a disaster, if our pressure doesn't get to Vick. If we sit back in zone coverage all freakin' day, then Vick, like many other QBs we've faced in recent games, will pick us apart...If Jay Cutler can look like a Pro Bowler against us, then imagine what Vick can do. That said, I say we need to play man and blitz no less than 50% of the time. TACKLING will be at a premium this week. Our corners are going need to find ways to jam their WRs at the line in hopes of throwing off their timing...Wiff on the jam and it's guaranteed to be 6 points for them!

Lastly, we often forget about the 3rd phase of the game...Special Teams. We DEFINITELY have to play solid in this phase with the likes of DeSean Jackson coming to town...We've seen what he's capable of. Our return game has to provide us with good field position at often as possible, too.

I really believe we can when this game, IF we play solid in all phases, eliminate "free points" with turnovers, and score TDs instead of FGs when provided with scoring opportunities. And, with that said....FALCONS ALL DAY!!!

Eagles have nothing at LB at mediocre Safeties at best. Pound that defense with Turner and supplement with play action. Control the ball and the clock, because quite frankly, I don't have faith in our defense at all at this point.

Heck, the defense was our lone shining spot on Sunday against the Bears. The offense cannot even score points.

The defense held the Bears' offense to 0 points for 1.5 quarters (midway in the third all the way to the end of the game). The defense even scored a TD to give us hope. Three or four consecutive possessions, the offense did not put one point on the board. We couldn't even get in FG range.

Yep, throwing interceptions in a playoff game is not helping your defense at all. Just like in that game, the offense kept our defense on the field on Sunday against the Bears. By the fourth, those guys were dog azz tired and you could tell it watching the game on a 13" fuzzy TV; and, they still managed to hold the Bears O to 0 points.

After Babs left the game we were pretty soft up the middle so that's a major concern.. I agree that matchup wise it's a bad one for the Falcons on the defense.. The Eagles are a fast team so putting them on our fast track combined with our inability to tackle doesn't really bode well for us. Our offense is going to have to help our defense out some here.. Time consuming drives, scoring in the redzone and not losing the turnover battle is key. Don't get behind by two scores! The game is pretty much over if that happens.

What reason do I have to think that Van Gorder won't be outcoached by Reid and Mohrninweig again?

Exactly

I'll take a shot at this

OFF. one back set and pound the ball over and over , set up the play action pass to keep them off balance and throw a few screens. Once the safetys move up go deep on play action with BOTH White and Jones dragging Douglas across the middle underneath

Def spread your def line a little wider than usual and see if you can still stop the run apply pressure up the middle to make Vick get happy feet , rush def ends straight up field to keep Vick in pocket and everyone stay in their rushing lanes , give him no place to escape because Vick on the edge is still the most dangerous player in the NFL imo.

All def backs should try to keep a eye in the back field as much as possible ,maybe a spy from a LB , most important is when you get a shot at Vick hit him and hit him hard because he doesn't have the guts to take a pounding and once hes hit a few good times he just looks for a way out and forgets down field receivers

This is what has been used on Vick in the past with the most success

Some of you calling for us to spread out 4 receivers wide is what Andy Reid wants. Now if you're using this formation to run from, I suppose it could work but spreading out our receivers does not make sense with the corners they have.

The keys to winning this game are.....

Offense:

We need to get Turner going early. Their LBs are no good so get Turner the ball early and hope the line and start pushing people around. Our line is not built for excellent pass protection. Rather I think the line needs to overachieve. NY starting with the run and giving them the opportunity to engage the d-line instead I'd anticipating their movements and reacting. Don't give the Eagles the chance to jump the snap. That will give our line enough confidence in pass protection as well. Play action will be huge once we setup our run game. Attack the middle of the field and up the seam with HD and TG. I want to see Julio get some action too but I prefer a win anyway over a highlight reel. HD against a LB and we'll be in for some serious YAC.

Defense:

Play man and have a spy on Vick. Send exotic blitzes his way and let William Mo introduce himself to Vick. Let Nicholas unload a big hit on him too. Trust that Abe will get his and hkpefully Edwards will show up too. When Vick gets rattled he looks to run and doesn't look down the field much. Whatever you do, don't just play zone and let him pick us apart. If Hayden is ready, make Dunta earn those pay checks and send him headhunting from the nickel.

Special Teams:

My God. Change everything. If someone misses a tackle and their expendable anyways, cut that motherf*cker to show you mean business. Special Teams is not for the feint of heart. Make these guys earn their pay check with some solid tackles and make sure they wrap up. Drip the rookie if he's consistently short of the opposing teams end zone. We are the only team unable to force knees. Find out WTF is wrong with Werms and why he waves off every punt but is too swift-like (haha swift as in the swift on these boards, prissy, b1txhy) to actually go catch the ball.

Above all.....shut up the Vick lovers asap. Don't allow him to run around making plays all over.

Defense: Find a way to pressure Vick. Force him out of the pocket to his blind side. Be alert for interception opportunities and make them count. GTFO on third and long.

Offense: Play without fear. Toss the rock. If it's intercepted, shake that **** off and keep attacking. That's what great QB's do. Screen a little. Let Turner loose.

i would say try to prevent the big play and contain mike vick along with actually tackling so shady doesnt run all over us.

on O i would say run run and run some more their LB are weak points along with their safeties so if we can run successfully then hit them with some PA over top the safeties i think we could have a good shot at beating them.
