itsjustafleshwound
Don't get me wrong, I like how our defense is developing when folks are healthy but.....LHB just reported that Cornelius Washington who has started 2 games at Justin Houston's old spot has a grand total of..........1 TACKLECan someone please explain this? I know Ray Drew may not have much experience, but he has to be better than this? Is this stat off? Is Washington hurt? Have we somehow entered another dimension where walk-on ILB's record 8 tackles to Washington's 1?This could explain why we have a grand total of 2 sacks on the year compared to last year. This is ugly. I like Grantham and I think he's doing a great job considering all his inside linebackers are going down with injuries. But man, these stats are weird. GAbred
I haven't gone back to watch the game yet, but it looked to me like Washington plays DE a lot. Don't know if this was an effort to get more pressure, but it didn't work. JJ seems to be in Houston's old role. This could just be our nickel formation that I was noticing though. We have to figure out how to get pressure on the QB by the UT game or we are in big trouble. Carter
There are athletes and there are football players.... CW is not a football playerPretty much. He's a freak athlete but that hasn't translated to the field in football. I'm hoping we see a good amount of Ray Drew in these next two games so we know what we've got in him as a freshman. Kennesaw77
I agree with you guys. The biggest defensive issue is we can't pressure the QB. We pressure the QB and the secondary looks better. Drew seems to have fallen way behind after his scooter accident.

good2badawg
CMR talked bout why Drew hasnt seen the field. Nothing to do with the scooter, just hasnt been comfortable enough in the games as of yet to play him realtive to who else he has had to choose from because of closeness of the games. But, he said that as soon as they can, Drew will get PT, and that he he would like to see him earn even more PT when given the opportunity in game time situations. stumpjumper
OMG, and I got flamed for saying Kellen Moore shouldn't be afraid since Houston is no longer on that defense.
itsjustafleshwound
OMG, and I got flamed for saying Kellen Moore shouldn't be afraid since Houston is no longer on that defense.I never "flamed" anyone. Honestly, that position is meant to be THE pass rushing position. The 3-4 pressure schemes bank on a dominant force at that position and so far, Washington has yet to do anything. I was asking questions before the season started and now the doubts have been validated. I hope he turns it around by Jacksonville.

He wasn't doing anything at all until Alec Ogletree went out of the game, so that's not exactly tooting your own horn for the right reason. pintaildrake1
Someone who says they know someone close to the program said that there was more behind the scenes with Drew's scooter incident. Said that they discovered he did not transfer the registration to his name when he purchased the scooter. It has been handled internally. Fwiw they said he would be playing in the upcoming game vs. CC.

stumpjumper
Course I am...I get negged for idiots whose only reason was they'd win was cause they were UGA...one of those cases that some folk deserve it. Now a loss to coastal carolina would be downright hilarious, although not very likely.

itsjustafleshwound
*yawn*Agreed. On another note, I heard a little bit ago that Drew was being disciplined. At that time, I had no idea that it had anything to do with the scooter accident. Is there anyone you see pushing Washington for the starting job besides Drew? I guess we'll find out soon enough. But Drew himself also said that last week he was told he would get PT but that when it didn't happen no biggy, i understand and it is what it is. not a verbatum quote but paraphrased. Fwiw they said he would be playing in the upcoming game vs. CC.If that is the "more to the situation", then it honestly is even more ridiculous than if they just held him out because they "weren't comfortable". That is probably the dumbest reason to continue to play a known weakness on D than replace him with someone that is a ?, but can't possibly be any less productive.
