Sheldon Cooper
Where does Matt Ryan stand? If he is going to be elite or dominant, he needs to exhibit these two qualities. The one thing he gets credit for is throwing the ball to a spot even before the WR makes his break. That is great, but does he thread the needle? Does he consistantly throw it to the right guy? Brady has long been noted for throwing to the best/most open man at a higher % than any QB, Rodgers has been credited with that same quality in the last two seasons. I want to see Ryan reading defenses and finding the open man 70-80% of the time. I seem to see WR's more wide open in the back of the frame than the guy he throws to where the ball is defended or incomplete quite a bit. What is everyone else seeing regarding his decision making/ability to consistantly throw to the most open option? #1 pick
Matt is a dufus. He will fit in just fine in an IT office. In a NFL locker room, he's out of place. He doesn't have the balls to play this game aggressively. I don't care if he throws three or four picks, he just needs to be aggressive and willing to test the defense. But he's a rich man's Matt Cassell.
paulitik
Matt Ryan was the number 3 overall QB last year per ESPN's new QB rating scale. So this thread is a massive fail. When the coach says "we take what the defense gives us" is where our problems lie. We don't have a killer instinct on this team, it's not the QB. It's endemic throughout our whole team. We need to reconsider our team philosophy, not our 11 win a year QB.

Matt is great v. the Denver's and Miami's of the world but real teams like the Steelers, Packers, Bears, and Eagles give him fits. The QB is the face of the team right? g-dawg
every QB you cited has an offensive line that protects him and gives those QBs adequate time to throw the ball. Matt has to get the ball out in 2.5 seconds (and does!!!!) or he gets his head chopped off.I'm tired of Matt Ryan getting blamed for his performance when its obvious to anybody with half a brain that watches the games can see that Matty Ice does not have adequate time to throw the ball - and this has been an issue for the entire three years that Matt has been there. To his credit, Matt does not beotch about it.....wish he would sometimes as nobody in media or none of the coaches acknowledges this obvious problem - if Falcons O-Line does not improve dramatically this year - then the long/explosive passing game won't occur this year either.Just watch the game next week and see how much time Matt has. Then watch the Sunday night and Monday night games and see how much time those QBs have. - My guess is most of the time you will see those QBs have an extra 1-2 seconds to make their throws than Matt does. Breesus is my savior
He's overrated for now and has no balls. Everybody wants to jump on brees for his 22 int's but he had to force it to win, he showed he has nuts and sometimes you have to take chances to be great. No you clowns, you go out and make the other team take it. Time to start holding people accountable on this team for not having the sack to take the next step. Mr. 0-2 aka Top Ramen
Ryan just doesn't have the arm to make it to the elite level in this league. You can see it in his eyes, when he's getting ready to chunk it downfield you can tell he knows its going to be a jump ball. People say "I've seen him throw a 60 yarder before, his arm isnt the problem"You know what? I have a toyota corolla that goes 110 mph, but theres no way in **** it gets there near as fast as my camaro gets to 110. Nobody is saying he can't throw it deep, he just doesn't have the mustard to consistently throw it deeply, accurately and with zip. **** I could probably throw the ball 60 yards doesnt mean I have an NFL arm. Matt Ryan is a game manager and a pretty **** good one. He'll just never be elite because he doesn't have the physical traits to do so. People are so desperate for Vick to fail that they'd prop up anyone. It's sad how blind to the truth people are on this subject. Ryan has every tool he needs at every position. NO QB IN THE LEAGUE has the quality of teammates as he does on offense. Don't blame the line, Vick played yesterday with 4 new olinemen, 2 of them rookies and they still won the game when he was under FAR MORE pressure than Matty Melt saw all day yesterday.Stop embarrassing yourself by mentioning Ryan in the same category as Brady, Brees, Manning, Rodgers, Big Ben and Vick. He's down there with Schaub, Freeman, Stafford, Newton, Bradford etc..
