IronBallsMcGinty
The names and numbers on the jerseys have changed, as has the scheme, the play-calling, and the coaches, but it's the same old story...Good/great in run blocking,Mediocre/BAD in pass protection,Baker is a ******* turnstile, Clabo's better at guard, and Hawley ain't no McClure.I don't care who you have at QB, you WILL NOT be successful if your passer gets sacked 5 times and hit however-many-more times. Dharma Initiative
I think the line has been overrated because Ryan is always quick to get rid of the ball and it makes the number of sacks against them go way down. We need a stable center and left tackle more than anything
Trouble
2 new people... as they get some action they will get better and that adds depth!.Yes they got beat up, but it happens.
back4the1sttime
I will have to slightly disagree, I think the overall talent over the past three years has been way better than from the Vick days. Even the O-Line. It's not the best, but you don't go 13-3 with a bad o-line. Vick had to do far more with much less.

To me, all adds to the play of your offense. A good defense helps the offense. And having a coach that knows how to get the best out of your players and not trying to be your friends helps too. He didn't have Baker or Dahl. Clabo didn't start when Vick was here except a couple of games (and he was at guard when he did start), and Blalock was a rookie during Vick's last season. The O-line is completely different.

You're right, he had a better D.
PokerSteve
I think we have to come to grips with the sad fact we don't have all the pieces to be an elite team. The defense is just plain terrible, especially in passing situations. The Oline is so porous Ryan is bailing out every play even before the heat gets to him because he's getting drilled so much.Hard to see how Humpty Dumpty can be put back together and made to look like a real football team by next Sunday. If MS gets all this **** straightened out in seven days, he deserves the Coach of the Year Award, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Realsurfin
If we make Matty Ryan a crash test dummy too early on in the season we are going to be SOL ... we only have 2 deep at QB last time I looked. Not good to get your primo Quarterback slapped around like a concussion waiting to happen. They are going to have to work on a lot of things this week or concede next week to M Vick.we need to put that Ghost to rest.just an observation. Atl/0
Oh so now the line is bad when all week most of you were ragging on Chicago's? I don't know how many times I've said this today but Cutler had pressure in his face too but he didn't look like a chicken in the backfield. Stop making excuses. raysnill1
I still stand by, with the exception of Baker our line is not as bad as we think. sure they got pushed around but what really did we do to slow down the pass rush? what play did we dial up to punish the Bears defensive line for playing too aggressive? Rostan
We had our center out otherwise he is decent. Tom D. is clearly not on the same page as Mike S. I was excited when we hired Mike because he said from day one he is about building a strong line on both side of the ball a solid run game and contoling the clock. Since Tom D has been making calls our O-line is worse and our D-line is at best no better. I think coach N Turner an ex OC would be a better pick for Toms plan simce it is the exact opposite of Mike S.Baker was a bad draft pick he can't hold off a decent line only rushing 4. And today like most days he got called for a penalty. Renoylds is a back up period. We lost our starter and that left a gaping whole. This game went exactly as I have been saying since we mortgaged our future for Jones. Against a decent defense we will lose except whenwe are in perfect harmony. Our offense scored a NEGATIVE 2 Points!!! When you subtract the 14 they gave up to the defense. I would love to bring in a GM that thinks like Mike Smith and fire McCY so he can stop ruining this team.
Trouble
2 words-Harvey Dahl, we all see how valuable he was now.Yep BIG loss. But with the entire O line as FA`s. we had to expect to loose someone. It could have been worse.

Stop making excuses.By my count Jay Cutler should've thrown 3 interceptions as well (two to Decoud off of Grimes tips and one to Spoon late). Lord knows how the board would've reacted had Ryan thrown 3 picks

IronBallsMcGinty
2 words-Harvey Dahl, we all see how valuable he was now.Dahl was half our problem last year- another great run blocker and bad pass protector. Gimme Clabo @ RG, a TRUE anchor LT, and shift Baker to RT. Hawley has potential, but is raw and unproven at this point and I'd much rather have geriatric McClure. But you couldn't just state the truth- Vick doesn't work hard enough AND the surrounding talent sucks- you had to take one side or the other. False dilemma BS and all... (EDIT: That didn't read back right. I don't mean "you" personally, I just mean in general: you either had to be in one camp or the other.)Kinda ironic now with all the Vick trolls harping on Ryan.
