Positives from SCU loss

Well great game to watch despite UGA PLAYERS best efforts to throw the game away. Though we lost this one, there are plenty of things we can smile about heading into this next game against CCU.

1)Crowell is good. But hes not freshman good like most thought last week, hes SEC good. As far as skills and talents, you cant argue that hes right there at the top w/ Lattimore and Richardson. I always think of it like this, put them behind the same line and who looks better? As our O-line goes, Crowell goes.

2)O-line was great...at least when they were run blocking. They looked inspired today. Amazing how much different a running game can look w/ a good O-line.

3)Grantham called a great game and the D didnt really give up much. Almost all of Lattimore's running yards came from between the 20s and meant nothing cause they punted a few plays later.

4)Malcolm Mitchell may be our best WR right now. Id be surprised if he didnt lead in receiving by the end of the year. Marlon Brown looks like he did in high school. So much more confident than he looked last year.

5)Jarvis Jones and C-rob can hold down the fort until Ogletree returns.

6)Jenkins and Geathers have stuffed up any and all inside running in the first 2 games. Jones got some decent pass rush from DE.

7)Glad Rambo is back. He should have had 2 picks yesterday, I'll be okay w/ the one though.

Sucks we lost, but I defintely feel better than I did after last weeks game. I still don't feel great, but better. At least we showed fight and a sense of having a gameplan. Offense (aside from turnovers) looked much better. Amazing what blocking will do for a running game. Defense looked pretty good, still would like to see more consistent pressure on the QB.

-Crowell is the real deal. He needs to be HEAVILY involved from here on out

-Bennett and Mitchell I think are going to be our big targets at WR

-I love Jarvis' approach to the game. He goes hard after it and isnt afraid to hit someone. He made some great plays..

Crowell 7.4 ypc. that was better than Lattimore....just saying.

Resilint never quit. Gotta admire that. Seriously, fumbles for TD's, fake punt for Td, INT. Really, if that isn't a sign of Coaching, and the players haven't given up on coaching; what else is?

22 pts in the 4th qter...What! Thats fantastic

held Alshon to 85yds; his only TD was a hail mary, under pressure, off one leg, throw. Coverage was good.

Garcia was 11-25 147yd 1TD 2ints.

Spurrier said Ga outplayed them.....and ya'll did.

O-line did better Run blocking.

Someone made adjustments in the 2nd half on Offense, either Bobo or Richt.

Well the first positive is that we have one of the very best all-around rb's in the NCAA. Lattimore can do almost everything.

Clowney will become more and more of a nightmare as the season goes along. Ingram is as talented as any DL I have seen.

We won in spite of the fact that our qb had a horrible 1st qtr. and a bad game overall.

We were also outcoached and somehow still found a way to win in a hostile road environment.

But you probably weren't looking for input from a Gamecock fan, were you?

Yo QB may have had a horrible 1st quarter, but it only netted 6 points. You defense was there. Clowney is a beast. A fake punt for a TD, two fumbles, one for a TD and the other one returned to our 5, and an INT for a TD. Pretty much sums up the loss. Your team played good, but we shot ourselves in the foot.

Off topic here to this thread, but Clowney is the real deal. He is going to be a terror the next 2 years. I re-watched some of the game this morning, and one play in particular he absolutely abused Glenn (our OL most likely to be drafted, or at least before the season started) And he's 330+ lbs. Unreal.

I agree with you on the Crowell vs Lattimore comment to a certain extent. Crowell may be more dynamic by far in open field, but Lattimore breaks more tackles and what in my opinion makes him a better back as of now, he has durability to take 30 carries a game. Thanks for the compliments though. I'm glad we don't play yall this year though I don't remember a negative thing about your fanbase.

Yep, UGA played well enough to win the game but the big plays all went our way, or at least most of them did. I swear this is just like two years ago only this time it was us who were outplayed, but still managed to win the game.

Crowell is going to be a great rb, I think. He's one who will make opponents hold their breath whenever he get through the line of scrimmage with only a couple of lb's and db's between himself on the end zone.

And you o line played very well in the running game yesterday. They gashed our d line time and time again. I'm beginning to think we have decided to go with our best athletes as starters on the DL, but that is actually causing us to really start 3 guys who are better suited to playing DE and only 1 real DT. SO we can rush the passer, but we haven't shown the ability to hold the line well when being attacked by a large offensive line.

Lattimore is a beast and contrary to what a lot of folks have said, he is not slow... he was keeping pace with some of our DBs, though he would end up out of bounds because we had the angle on him. I think missing Tree in this game and Robinson going out allowed Lattimore to get more yards... and the bulk of his yards were not altogether damaging, coming mostly between the 20s. 176 yards and 1 TD from it... it's not good to give up that many yards, but usually 176 yards will result in 3 TDs or something.

Still... can't say anything bad about Lattimore. He's tough and runs hard.

Crowell has a bright future as well I think. He's not the same power guy that Lattimore is, but he's just got what it takes to be a solid RB. 3 more years of Crowell... I like it. :)

My positives....

The coaches came up with the best gameplan that I've seen from them in a long long time.

We played Georgia football on Saturday (with the exception of the turnovers and punt fake)

Lattimore didn't gash us up the middle much (I can only think of one time and that was late in the 4th when he shouldn't have even had the opportunity to do so to begin with) and we made Spurrier flinch several times when he saw us go to a big front on D. The team that decides to run a 46 Bear defense against Carolina is going to hurt them.

SCREENS!!!! Where have you been all these years??????

Secondary really stood up well. Alshon got lose once on a busted play when Garcia had 20 seconds to throw.

I saw some serious adjustments from the coaching staff in the second half. Great job of working over SC's cover two and running stop routes and comebacks under that soft zone.

#26 is going to be scary good.

I was in the middle of the Gamecock section on the Wooten TD catch. I stood up 2 seconds into the play and yelled "TOUCHDOWN!". I saw that post route coming from mile away.

The Defense

Again, the Georgia defensive staff must be commended for their game plan on Saturday night. The UGA defense took control of the line of scrimmage from the opening snap and only relinquished that control a few times throughout the game. The tackling was much improved from their showing against Marcus Lattimore a year ago, and much of that had to do with the way UGA was able to get multiple helmets to the football on almost every play.

Jonathan Jenkins and Abry Jones had huge nights for the UGA defensive line. Despite drawing double and triple teams all night, the duo was able to play on USC's side of the line of scrimmage and make plays against the run game.

Unfortunately for the Dawgs' Defense, Lattimore is one of the best in the country and even when a hole is not present, he can create. Over 100 of Lattimore's 179 yards came when he redirected behind the line of scrimmage and made a play when nothing was originally there.

Coach Todd Grantham's defense was outright dominant against the pass. USC quarterback Stephen Garcia only completed 44% of his passes and struggled all night to find open receivers against the UGA defense. While the box score will read that the Georgia Defense allowed 395 total yards, 68 of those yards came on the fake punt run by Melvin Ingram.

If you take a closer look at the numbers, South Carolina ran 66 plays for 327 yards if you exclude that fake punt. That is just under 5 yards per play. By comparison, the Georgia offense averaged 6.5 yards per play. The Dawgs' defense also held the Gamecocks to a respectable 28% on third down.
