Knight of God
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxaB5AUGA08Two dreaded teams and what a show they put on. I'm not thinking about our offense. The offense can handle it. How does our defense stack up. I'm very excited about our offseason moves. Hayden is a lot like a safety which makes him a natural for NB and Sanders will find his way into quite a few snaps as he is not new to the defensive scheme for the most part. Vague similarities with the Pats. I like Edwards as an addition and on the D-Line we made a few subtractions which in fact were more like additions.Overall I am very excited about the defense, but to watch something like this means that we will have to be very aggressive defensively. Is BVG up to it?
The Falcon Jedi Knight
That game was 2 of the best Offenses in the NFL. Neither defense looked very good. GB jumped out early, which was impressive. But I was equally impressed how the Saints came back. Brees almost pulled it out. Gonna be tough playing these guys. But the key for us is slowing the game down with our running attack, and keep the scoring as low as possible.

Is BVG up to it?Did you watch the superbowl last year mate? Rocket Arm & Co. ripped apart the BEST D in the league. Steelers & Saints tried EVERYTHING from defense stand point to contain them. But, we all saw the results. In the end, what required from Saints was a resilient QB even better then ROdgers to take the game to final seconds...& that's all its about. It's about how hard you get hit & you still keep moving foward. Question should be....is Matty Ice ready to take us to that level we saw in the opening game? As far as our defense we will keep the explosive plays to minimal compared to last year.In the end, it will ALL depend on how much Matt Ryan & offense wants to go further....SIMPLE! They have ALL the skill sets & resources to do even bigger damage then what we saw thursday nite.....how consistently we do it? & how many times in playoffs we do it? that's something we all have to wait & see.Let's not be unfair to BVG & our D ......by doubting their ability.Cheers! infamous
can someone please get the tissues out, stop saying how are we going to defend it, and start saying we can defend this. people who start these threads aren't real falcons fans because they cry about every concern they have, shut up and believe in our team, you moron. Knight of God
There was more defense shown in these responses than in the game. Boy, if I were actually making a statement as to thinking that we had no chance for real I'd be in trouble of being called a troll. The post is a call to discuss our defense as you see it now and was actually giving props to us. I said that I like what we did in the offseason and that I'm excited. You new guys need to start reading posts past the title.

JayOzOne
IMO, the key to stopping both offenses is to stay home and not try for heroic plays. Both teams are capable of crazy YAC and if Grimes or Robinson try for an interception that's just out of their reach, we'd better hope Decoud and Moore are in position to make the save. We need to focus more on passes defensed than interceptions to rein in the game-changing play and we'll be alright.

JayOzOne
I think we need to play man. But, we need a solid nickel and dime. Both QBs can read and get the ball to the third or fourth WR easily, so we need to have CBs with comparable talent. That and DEs that can rush the throws. That and DEs that can rush the throws.I've been out of the loop for a few weeks and was trying to get an idea. I missed the last preseason game and really didn't see much after the first one. Normally (I think you already know) I would have given an assessment based on what I have seen, but there wasn't much for me to base it on.So sanders and Hayden were the "icky balooey" and based on what was shown in the preseason they ran some man coverage? I know that Sanders played a little CB and NB at the start of his career. Was TD preparing for teams like these with those two pick-ups? I saw what looked to be a good bit of zone blitzing that ended up getting blocked fairly well for both sides. I don't think Brees had ever seen as much pressure in his life as we were putting on him in our Monday night home game last year. Just didn't bring them down. Just didn't bring them down.I know that the chink in Bree's armor is putting some hits on him, I saw the same thing. I wasn't sure if we had installed any blitz packages or anything though. Just that Spoon had moved to WLB. I guess what I am interested in knowing for sure is this...During the preseason, were there any packages that looked as though they were designed solely for these two teams. I saw a few packages that DID in fact look like a few from our last year's playbook...but during this preseason did anything point to a change in playcalls or packages? Baker looks a little more like he gets it. I'm mostly excited to know what our "D" looks like and has there been any changes with our new guys and second year guys. I need a run down on how our boys have done. I've been gone for a while and have "0" idea of where we are or what we are doing. Its an odd place for me, but I have been literally out of the loop altogether...nearly NO info except random newspapers. JayOzOne
I think Peria Jerry can be THAT GUY in out defense. If he pushes the middle, everything else will work off of him. The DEs (and Babs) will be more effective, the LBs can rush, and the CBs will have more rushed throws coming their way. Jerry and Peters have to be able to push if our defense will move into the top 10.

metatron360
Well the blitzes last year just where ineffective because our blitzing corner failed to wrap up the QB. I think that formation is what van gorder wants and also he wants an aggressive hit the QB type defense. We saw that a few times last year and usually against quality opponents. If we can execute I dont think there is a doubt to van gorder wants to do. But we need to stay ahead by 2 scores to limit liability. Is BVG up to it?I think BVG has been increasingly aggressive and creative. At the end of the day he has to have the right personnel to read their keys and react quickly enough especially in the secondary. It's a bit disturbing they had to pick up vets late in the preseason but I think we'll know the answer by the time they hit the GB game. falconidae
KOG, here's my take- Falcons run the ball better than either one of those teams and neither of them looked like they could stop the run. [both may improve over time, have to see] Neither of them could get pressure on the opposition QB without blitzing. IF, and I said IF, Jerry gives the falcons a push up the middle, that means that the Falcons will be able to get pressure with just the Dline- Edwards, Babs, Jerry, Abe would all have to be double teamed- means blitzes from LBs or CBs could be disguised better/work better and that teams would have to take a pass catcher out of the play to help block.Falcons have been building a team to beat teams like GB & NO, hopefully Edwards, a healthy Jerry and Hayden & the other new secondary player are the final parts of a D capable of holding those teams down.
