Soldier Field - turf conditions

Recommended Posts

There may be Field Turf in the dome, but the Falcons practice on grass unless weather forces them into the barn. That didn't happen this week - they practiced in soggy outdoors conditions for the most part. In fact, they let one of their three practice fields grow a little long and get a bit chewed up to help with preparations. They'll be ready.

Field Turf doesnt work well in outdoor conditions. If it rains or snows and gets wet it gets real slippery, and also would develop mold if water is allowed to settle in it.

I did not know that. Thanks for the info.

So, is there a solution or is it just what it is?

Remember that punt that lodged in the ground at Hienz field a couple of years ago? Ridiculous.

I'm cutting us no slack either way. Our staff knows the deal. Both teams play in the same conditions. The losing team won't be able to point to the field as an excuse so far as I'm concerned.

We are not some fragil team that has to have everything be just perfect to win. We are at the top of the league. The teams that are playing us are the ones who need to pray every anciallary concern bounces their way.

Yea, when your own players say the field is bad.. thats bad.

But im not too concerned. As we've shown last year, we may be the best team in the league in these kinda hard-nosed running games (or just slightly behind the Steelers).. so I doubt they want to fight it out with us in the trenches. Chicago's OLine is quite bad, I dont think it'll make a difference either way.

Jedi is wrong on this one. One of the huge advantages of FieldTurf is that it can be used in all weather conditions. Seattle almost every year is in the top 5 playing fields as voted by the players and they have FieldTurf.

The real reason why Chicago has a crappy field is because they use it to slow down opponent's offenses. Remember, this is the same team that has to play Green Bay twice a year.

So they keep a bad field to slow down Green Bay? It seems like they would want something that doesn't also put their players at risk

A little concerned playing on that crap field. Chicago players have been complaining all pre-season about it. Its horrible. I hope our equipment manager brings good cleats. It might get sloppy and encourage injuries.

This time of year it is not really an issue, Yes, I think it will affect the cuts and stuff a little but nothing major. a month or so ago the Bears had there expo or family day and the bone heads did not water the field as much as they should when there was a super hot week. When the weather gets cold and grass does not grow in those temperatures, yes it is bogus, and with a Martz offense I think at this point it does the Bears more harm than good to the point that I think we even had a better road record last year.
