So NO learned nothing from us and has the same defense that lost in Seattle.

Obviously you guys didn't hear the part of the gameplan where Sean Payton said "Okay guys, we're going to look horrible on defense so Atlanta assumes we still suck and can't tackle. I want you guys missing tackles. We really got to sell this!"

But yeah...doesn't help my confidence much. I just keep telling myself "That was Green Bay, they do that to all defenses."...but I'm not sure how convincing I've been. Little nervous.

I saw signs of.lynch on the James stark TD run and the Cobb TDs lol

On ESPN they show Lynch's run over and over. You know the one, that beat the Aints? Over and over just before going on break. On NFL live they mentioned that 8 of the 11 defense players missed him on that play. Just amazing that 8 players even had a chance! Over and over they show that play, I just wonder, will I ever get tried of watching it?

Against the Packers, you HAVE to blitz like crazy all game to force Rodgers into some max protect. You know they are going to spread you out and move the ball. Why not just accept it and attack Rodgers back? He will start thinking about it more. The Saints got killed trying to sit back in zone. QBs like Rodgers don't need time, it will only kill you. Come from everywhere. No less than 5 at a time. Jennings, Driver, Nelson are marginally containable in man with solid corners. Finley is just a plain ole tough cover.

We were getting to Rodgers and a few sacks results in a few more punts. The Saints got a couple of stops once they got physical with the Packers. That OLine is not that good to the point that blitzing won't work. Ask the Jets how they beat Brady and Manning. Blitzes all game long.

I think the best way to handle the Packers, is take your 3rd string DE, DT, or LB and just take Rodgers' head off early, and expect him get ejected from the game. I just don't see how you stop him from throwing to the back shoulder. You need to just attack the **** out him early, and hope they don't score too much on you early.

I say we just get Sid to just nail him sometime on the first drive to send a message: " You may beat us, but you aren't beating anyone next week".

All of that and the Packers Completely shut it down in the second half. They mustve handed the ball off like 30 straight times!!! I wish they would have done that last yr against us in the playoffs.

They did kind of take the foot off the pedal, and it seemed like they ran it a lot...but I was actually surprised to see they only rushed the ball 6 more times than we did, and only had 20 more yards; 17 of which came on the TD run from Starks. Even more surprised to see we averaged more yards per rush than they did. They just made their runs count and got first downs.

We started the game in man coverage and trying to blitz. Our corners just couldn't handle the man coverage. We were forced to turn to zone. Although I do think we turned to zone too early (like on the GBs 2nd possession). Zone wasn't really working much either, so we should have just stuck it out with man and kept sending the blitz. Rodgers was torching both, but why not at least see if we couldn't force a turnover?

you want to kno wats really ironic about that game... i remember sooo many trolls saying '' we didnt make them punt once'' thats funny cause neither did they... then got a taste of wat they didnt feel last year...

I don't mean to burst your bubble, but we made them punt four times actually. Two more times than they made us punt. And we also held them to an average of just 14.5 yards a punt.

Keep in mind none of this makes me feel any better about our loss lol.

Oh I hear ya. But with the crazy offseason (or lack thereof) this year, I'm not going to get too overly worried about one game against one of the best offense in the league. At the start of the year, the defenses are usually always a step behind the offenses. It was evident with their defense as well. In fact, it was your own GM on Collin Cowherd the other morning that said they used this preseason to do what they normally do in training camp (one reason Falcons fans shouldn't worry 'bout this preseason). Herm Edwards and Dilfer both have mentioned that the first couple of games this year will basically be what preseason games were in normal years. You'll see a lot of ugly defense to start the season.

If we look like this in week four...I'll really start to get worried.

This links in to what i see as being the biggest weakness for the saints coaches, they sometimes seem to lack the right instincts for when to change things up, see also running ingram on the final drive when he had been largely ineffective and is in his first nfl game, lets be honest pierre thomas isnt the worst short yardage runner in the world.

Not that im saying Payton/Williams are bad coaches, far from it they're two of the best schemers/gameplanners out there its when they have to tear things up from the script that i think they can be very hit or miss.

IT's crazy how as bad as NOs defense and STs may have been, they were still all the way in it until the clock read :00. NO, even after the clock ready :00 they were still in it.

If any Falcons fans were getting their panties in a wad over GB (I can understand for the offense) they still did not have a complete showing. There is hope for you guys that were about to have a heart attack. Imagine if NO had actually tied up the game. . . . The Falcons play old school, traditional football and can go toe to toe with the Packers as we did in November. That playoff game was an anomaly. I believe that was more mental than anything. Here we have a lot of young guys all across the board with heavy expectations upon them. I also think the bye week hurt them too. I'm not making any excuses for that showing.
