Cam Newton said he received a phone call from Mike Vick giving him some advice on how to approach his rookie year.

Good. Vick made a lot of mistakes in his approach and during his rookie year. It's nice to see that he has learned from his mistakes enough to give advice on how to avoid them.

Probably advice on paying attention to what the coaches are saying. To take the extra time and study every piece of film he can. Even if he was drafted by a team that was by far the worst in the nfl. Like he, himself was, many years ago.

Possibly common sense types of advice, that anyone not named a young Mike Vick, Russell or Leaf should already know.

It's more a positive to Vick though. I'm glad that all of his mistakes weren't in vain. Since prison, he does seem like a totally different person. A better person. I'm glad he turned his life around.

Seriously though, Newton doesn't come across as someone who would make the not studying or not practicing hard mistakes that Vick did.

Vick: You gotta set an example, study hard and practice hard.

Newton: No sheet Sherlock!

 That's what I was thinking also. Newton has been working hard and entirely focused on getting better. As a rookie, he already has the locker room and the respect of the bigger name individuals on the team.

Vick offering advice though.... is still pretty cool. Never has a player experienced a life of highs and lows and highs again in the NFL as Vick has.

"Okay, Newt, your 1's gonna have maybe three guys on him and your 2's going to be getting mauled like Scottie Pippen and the Bad Boys, so you're either going to be looking for your 6-5 white guy or you're going to be running. Just to warn you, they go for the ball in this league, so when you go for it you should hold the ball in one hand as far away from your body as you possibly can. Pretend it's a loaf of bread you picked up from the store and hungry pigeons are trying to kill you. And when you do throw it, make sure it's either really high so only cracker can get it or low enough to skip off the grass if the receiver can't catch it. Just as long as you throw it as hard as you can, every time, you won't throw enough picks for them to bench you, and believe me, your backup is only gonna get more popular from here."

Vick has some good words of wisdom indeed.

Seriously though. They do go for the ball in this league.

In an attempt to strip the ball, they often neglect to wrap a runner up, more times than not, and the "tackle" attempt is broken as the runner gets a few extra yards.

You'd think some of these defenders would learn by now. Take both arms, wrap them around the RB and pull the sucka down. Don't half azz it, by barely touching the guy as they make a futile attempt at a strip.
