Zenduke
I've nothing against the guy but I wonder why we spent a third round pick on him. We had other needs and it seems odd that we would spend a third round pick on a back up.

Guest Gritz
Insurance against Lofton's knees not rebounding (looks like they have) and another hopefully good special teams ace.

Smiler11
We had a need a LB, Coy Wire, Stephen Nicholas and Mike Peterson were all free agents. Wire is now gone and Mike P will be gone at the end of this year. For me Dent was picked to be a special teams ace, the heir to Mike P's role of backing up all 3 LB spots and insurance for Lofton.Looking at this team now, with the aquisitions we've made in FA, I can't see any glaring need that we didn't address. Perhaps LT, but you're not gonna get a stud LT at the end of the 3rd round. Maybe a TE to groom, but any TE was still going to be a backup and wouldn't have provided much value on special teams. Mid-Nite-Toker
IMHO, Dent would've been a calamity of a pick(prospect) if Quizz(ready to ball) hadn't fallen to us in the 5th. I think Dent and Quizz's draft selections should be switched, but we got what we needed. Re-signing Peterson and Nicholas gives Dent time, so a.t.m., it was a good selection. Supposedly, a lot of teams were big on Dent and thus the stretch for him.

paulitik
I would have rather taken Casey MathewsYeah, Matthews has been roadkill all pre-season. Philly fans are starting to turn on him. I guarantee we will see a lot of Turner in week 2.

Where would you have liked to see the pick spent?
phattywankenobi
I'm glad that the Falcons are not in such bad shape they need the 91st pick to start right away because they do not have anyone better.
swift
Where would you have liked to see the pick spent?offensive line..Joseph Barksdale T guy picked right behind Dent has been a beast and will wind up starting could have provided ADDED DEPTH to T position where we are very lightLBS are dime a dozen
sharky
Never-the-less, our depth chart is established. These are the guys we are riding with, or shall I say flying with. It may be a litel too late to question it now. Edited September 7, 2011 by sharky
Morewheat
You need good depth to win a SB not just "a guy" back there. If you want good players you generally have to draft them earlier than later. Dent provides us with solid depth if and when it is needed. Makes sense to me. BazookaJoe
Because we needed depth, and he has potential
DirtyBirdsDirtyWords
Why make these threads before you see how things pan out? Its starting to sicken me how quick these boards question everything that happens and why we didn't go after him and blah blah blah. TD is the GM for a reason and has proven more than capable up to this point. Other teams fans fully support what their team does and wouldn't dream of griping over a 3rd round pick that has yet to play a regular season game.... JMO, and I've felt this way all offseason, we really are not that strong at LB, especially when it comes to depth (or starting SAM IMO). I wasn't thrilled with taking Dent, but I do believe that the position was one we needed to address.

Dad's Home
We got Dent because the rest of our linebackers suck balls and Mike Vick will pick them apart when he comes to town. P.S. I want his ding-dong, if you know what I'm sayin'.
KeepItCrispy
I guarantee we will see a lot of Turner in week 2.Yep, I think you can bank on that. Based on what I've seen of PHI this pre season, their run D is really struggling.
DD: Objective Elite
I think it's worth noting that TD said Dent was his highest rated ST player, of the past three drafts. So, not only will he provide LB depth but he looks to be a 'Special" Special Teams player.
IrishFalco
Maybe he'll replace Lofton in a couple of years. Don't get me wrong, Lofton is a monster in run support, but is major liability in coverage. Dent is much more athletic and versatile and could be pretty good in a year or two.And I really love 5-0. But man, learn how to protect the field on long third downs!
UK13
Casey Mathews isn't any better than Dent
