Changes in the roster

1. Anderson > Ray Edwards

2. Davis > C Matthews

3. T Lewis > Powell

4. Wire > A. Dent

5. B Williams > Hayden

6. [JPWilson]> Walls

7. Coleman > Sanders

8. Koenen > Bosher

9. Jenkins > JJones

10, Finneran > Meier

11. Peelle > Kelly

12. Dahl > {Reynolds}

13. Norwood/ G Johnson > Rogers

14 {Reynolds}> Bruggeman

But how much improvement do you really see or are most just an even switch of players?

ADDED I do expect a few more changes after McClure is back in the starting lineup

Clear/Substantial upgrades:

Edwards, JJ, Rodgers (as soon as he gets his first touch)

At least a wash and possible upgrades:

Dent, Hayden/Walls (backup CB in general), Sanders, Meier, Reynolds

Wash and/or Non-Factors:

Matthews (I really like him and love his upside, but I doubt he gets too many snaps this year), Powell (likely to be cut as soon as Peters is healthy), Kelly (Both are solid, although with different strengths)

Who the f knows?:

Bosher (I have not bee impressed with punts or kickoffs so far, although I am hopeful that he will start booming kicks into the endzone once the season starts. Koenen's punting had been getting worse and more inconsistent over the past three years. I could see Bosher anywhere from a very noticeable downgrade to a substantial upgrade)

Too early to tell. Let's see how they play in actual games that count.

I agree with this, too hard to tell in pre-season who is really going to make an impact. I could have sworn last year that Kroy Biermann was going to have a big year based on what he did in the pre-season. This year we were almost deserate for at DE to replace him as the starter. We'll know much better by weeks 4-5.

it's true that it's impossible to know before the season, but that doesn't make it impossible to guess :P

and at this point the only "minuses" i see are reynolds and bosher, and those should only be temporary. so it seems like good moves pretty much all over the board, but we will know for sure in the coming weeks.

ADDED I do expect a few more changes after McClure is back in the starting lineup

1. Anderson <<< Ray Edwards (no comparison, twice as many sacks per year than in JA's career)

2. Davis < K Biermann (Biermann is in Davis' old roster position, not Matthews)

3. T Lewis > Powell

4. Wire > A. Dent

5. B Williams <<< Hayden (Hayden is much better than Brian Williams)

6. [JPWilson] <<< Walls (Walls at least has a chance to contribute, JP never threw a pass in a regular season game, so he had 0 contribution)

7. Coleman <> Sanders (Coleman was solid, but so is Sanders, so even swap)

8. Koenen > Bosher

9. Jenkins < JJones (Jones is more explosive and I fully expect him to put up bigger numbers than Jenkins did for us)

10, Finneran < Meier (At this stage in their respective careers, Meier is better without having played a down. I loved Finneran and he was reliable for us. But he couldn't make another team's roster this season, and he was not a threat in the passing game last year, as demonstrated by his 19 catches for 8.7 yards per catch. I love his passion on ST's and I loved his commitment, but you can't say he's an upgrade over Meier if he's not able to make any team's roster)

11. Peelle < Palmer (Peelle lost his position to Palmer, Kelly is our 3rd)

12. Dahl > {Reynolds}

13. Norwood/ G Johnson < Rogers (Norwood when healthy was better, but 2 carries last year and only 1 TD the past 2 years negates his potential, and does not make him as good of an option as Rodgers)

14 {Reynolds}> Bruggeman

I think some of these are very significant improvements. I will also say I believe in the following improvements as well.

HD2011 >>> HD2010 (looks a lot better, 2 years removed from injury).

Spoon2011 >>> Spoon2010 (dealt with injury last season, 2nd season in system).

Jerry2011 >> Jerry 2010 (was not 100% recovered last season).

D-Rob2011 > D-Rob2010 (dealt with injury and 1st year in system).

Lofton2011 > Lofton2010 (played through knee injuries).

Turner2011 > Turner2010 (groin injured in week 2, delayed surgery until after season to not miss games, back to 100%).

Biermann2011 > Biermann2010 (was not ready for starting role, much better as a situational player).

He was our 4th RB last year after Wood went down. So OP is correct to say we replaced Wood/Gartrell with Quiz.

Edit: 3rd RB, but 4th if you include Ovie

No Smith was on the team all last year and is again this year

Norwood was hurt and replaced by Johnson week3/4

thus the Norwood/Johnson > Rogers

yeah i saw the > in the wrong place.

PZUMMO

I was just using ">" to indicate "replaced by" not greater than but I get your indicators

and the Davis > Matthews just meant Davis cut Matthews added no so much the exact depth spot

on the roster.

But

2010

Bierman (Anderson) (Davis)

Abe Sidbury

2011

(Edwards) Bierman (Matthews)

Abe Sidbury

so it should be Bierman > Edwards,, Anderson > Bierman,, Davis > Matthews

I agree with the latter. the improvements of players from last year to this will pay dividends. plus there's always Owens > Hayden.
