Corey Peters update

Falcons DT Corey Peters is "close" to returning from the knee injury he suffered in Atlanta's second preseason game.

Peters is still listed as a starter on the Falcons' website depth chart, but we wonder if missing the last three weeks will end up costing him the job. Former first-round pick Peria Jerry capitalized with a big training camp and a preseason sack. Peters was one of Atlanta's weak spots in run defense last season.

in our defense, I really pay little attention to the DT depth chart; as we rotate our DTs on such a regular basis. Actually the same can be said for the DE rotation as well. Let's say Kroy gets 30 snaps a game (as could Peters); being "fresh" could actually improve their game(s) both statistically and from an impact perspective.

He is verging on bust status, he needs to start getting noticed!

Having played one year and that being after a major knee injury, I am not anywhere close to ready to call him a bust, IMO.

If he doesn't have a greater impact this year then I might start thinking that way. I read somewhere Smith saying that last year they took it slow with him because of coming back from his injury.

It has now been two years since the knee injury in only his second NFL game in September, 2009. Frankly, we've seen so little of him that I'm not sure anyone knows what to expect.

Speculating purely from observation of his interviews and demeanor, Jerry is a very mild mannered individual and, giving an old (he's already 27 years old) Mississippi country boy millions of dollars in guaranteed money as a first rounder, I'm not sure the will and the fire is in him to be great. Let's just say I don't see any "Warren Sapp" in his personality!

For sure, after two years post-op, it's time to step forward or be relegated to a backup or journeyman DT.

You just said the same thing I did only worded it differently. He's played one season since his knee injury.

At the end of the day, he's entering his second year of playing in the NFL and I'm going to view him as such.

No patience around here. Jerry tears his ACL and we all know it takes 2 full years to get back from it AND Smitty held him out intentionally. Yet, he is on the verge of bust status. Doesn't take long around here. This is the "Don't get hurt or we will forget about you and want you gone" message board. The same is happening to Meier. For some reason, people thought he was't going to make the roster and now people think Jerry is toying with bust status. Maybe if he kept getting hurt and never on the field but he suffered a 2 year injury. He is clearly back now. Wait until a full season before the B-word starts getting thrown at him.

Edit: I can't imagine what you guys would think of Stafford if you were Lions fans...

Completely agree with you Vel, it is far too easy to start calling someone a bust. I like PJ when i watched him at Ole miss and when he is healthy he is great but unfortunately he got injured and its held him back.

Now Jamaal Anderson was a bust and if you can compare him to PJ there is something wrong.

I've seen three people in two days insinuate that he might be a bust already. One full year and he's a potential bust?

I hope Julio puts up some big numbers or he's done for.

Jerry has looked good to me this preseason..not saying it's a precursor of things to come but he looked formidable in the middle with Babs

Personally I thought he looked horrible in the preseason. I watched him exclusively on a lot of plays. He was out there late into the 3rd and 4th quarter, a 1st round pick playing against guys who probably will never make an NFL roster. He was getting pushed around ALOT, even with single blockers. The injury is no longer an excuse. It's his 3rd season. He should DOMINATE against lower competition. And frankly, I didn't see it.

I hope he proves me wrong, but I'm in the "bust" category.

I thought he showed good push and lots of energy
