Vick and Newton still deal with double standards.

There will always be a few racists. I'd wager a bet though that most people aren't like that. Vick was idolized in Atlanta. Like he is now in Philly. Every big name athlete or celebrity has lovers and haters.

Newton, it's just smart marketing to remain tattoo and piercing free. A lot of Qbs are clean cut and visibly tattoo free. I don't think any owner wants the face of their franchise, their high drafted qb, to have tattoo sleeves like Shockey, a golden grill like Chris Johnson, or, a ton of piercings on their eyebrows, nose, lip, etc.

I got my ESPN Mag in the mail this week. Made me want to puke. Talk about a serious man-crush on Vick. The Mag devoted 1/2 of the issue to this guy. 50+ pages.

Time to cancel.

Sorely missed in that article is the connection between how starting quarterbacks are perceived and what they do on the field. The only reason anyone noticed Vick's return to the NFL was his highlights and his making Philly look like a Superbowl contender for much of last year. If Cam was covered head-to-toe in tattoos and won ten games his first year he would be praised for his swag, and if he bombs he's going to be labeled an underachiever by the mainstream media and fans (and some number of racial slurs by that minority of racists) even if he spends the rest of his life dressed like the preppiest kid in high school.

Another joke of an article. Tim Tebow running is considered toughness and leadership? WTF? Most people don't consider Tebow a good QB at all. The reality is, this has nothing to do with race and everything to do with their playing style and the fact that both have had trouble with the law.

The only thing race related here is the author of the article is black and is pulling the race card to get clicks. Just like Jason Whitlock.

It wasn't 100 million. If he plays in 35% of the snaps in any season, the final year (20 million) voids. And the guaranteed amount wasn't 40 million... it's 35.5 million if you include the 3 million injury guarantee in year 3. Other than that, just the first two years was guaranteed at 32.5 million. So the Eagles are leaving the chance out there that they have a new starter in 2 years if Vick reverts back to his old ways or keeps getting injured.

Hill is another of ESPN's chosen shock journalists, but there is some truth to it. The hatred and critiquing of black QBs in the NFL seems to go far beyond normal. Just look at how Aaron Brooks is treated by Saints fans. The guy was no All-Pro, but he was a **** good QB in his time for the Saints. Many Saints fans will say he is the WORST QB of all time (never mind Bobby Hebert, Billy Joe Hobart, John Fourcade, Heath Shuler, underachieving Jim Everett).

Anyone who thinks race doesn't play a part in all that is fooling themselves.

The Tebow and Vick situations are completely different. Tebow is fighting for his football life- he has to leave everything out there on the field even in preseason to try and earn a roster spot.

Vick is the starter, and Philly's key to a super bowl run- it is incredibly stupid for him to make that tackle.

And I like how she assumes that Richardson didn't have the "no tats" conversation with Claussen. Richardson got burned by Collins and Carruth-why wouldn't he have that conversation?

Have two problems with that assumption. One is, that as a white man, if I make that assumption about a black owner it would be considered racist.

Two- she's an f'ing journalist- don't assume, pick up the phone and call him, find out what he did with Claussen. How hard could that be?

He obviously didn't have it with Jeremy Shockey before signing him. A fairly high profile player who has endorsement deals.

And yes, Newton is the QB, but I don't think fans give a **** about tats. If Cam wins, stays out of major trouble (rape, DUI, illegal drugs, etc.), again, fans nor sponsors could care less about tats. They can also cover any with clothing or makeup.

When Tim Tebow bowls over a couple of defensive players for a touchdown in a meaningless preseason game, it's considered a display of his toughness and leadership. But when Vick launches himself at Troy Polamalu after throwing a costly interception, it's considered risky and stupid.

i would say that has nothing to do with one being white and one being black and it has everything to do with one being a third string qb and the other being a franchise qb.

There is no way that either of these plsyers have faced the scruyiny Tim Tebow has, at least not for what they've done or not done on the field.

You commit a felony, you get the scrutiny, the doubt and the fishbowl to live in.

Cam is getting the normal scrutiny for a # 1 pick.

Tebow was drafted, what,25th or so and they are scrutinizing him like he was # 1 overall. Never seen a guy catch the flack that dude does.

Tebow has the cowboy effect with him you love him or hate him.

The media knows that and that's why he's reported on so much. His name guarantees traffic to their websites and tv stations.

Im not a Tebow fan, but I don't recall any QB that was picked 25th in the draft getting that much flak. It's just weird to me.

Tebow gives you that little extra "OOMPH" on broken plays. Broncos over the last couple of years, they have had a lot of broken plays.

Orton is underrated. I think he's been a pretty solid starter for them. I'm no Tebow hater, I just think Orton is a legit QB. He's better than what people give him credit for.
