Anybody agree, disagree?

53 man roster

QB(2)- Ryan, Redman

RB(5)- Turner, Snelling, Rodgers, Johnson, Smith

FB(1)- Ovie

TE(3)- Gonzo, Palmer, Kelly

WR(5)- White, Jones, Douglas, Meier, Weems

OT(4)- Baker, Clabo, Valdez, Svitek

OC(3)- McClure, Hawley, Romberg

OG(3)- Blalock, Reynolds, Johnson

DE(4)- Abraham, Biermann, Edwards, Matthews

DT(5)- Babs, Peters, Jerry, Walker, Lewis/Powell/Tripp

LB(6)- Spoon, Peterson, Dent, Lofton, Nicholas, Wire

CB(5)- Robinson, Grimes, Hayden, Franks, Walls

S(4) - DeCoud, Moore, Sanders, Bush

K(1) - Bryant

P(1) - Bosher

LS(1)- Zelenka

Made the cut

Rafael Bush- Very good athlete that moves well. I like him, and think there's a chance he'd be picked from the practice squad by another team.

Darrin Walls- Played well and takes Owens' spot.

Brett Romberg- Graded out pretty well by PFF for the 2008 season. Would like the experience in case Hawley bombs.

Jose Valdez- Not practice squad eligible and could be a valuable backup at guard and tackle. Mike Johnson has looked questionable this pre-season so Valdez might be active on game days if there's an injury to a guard or tackle.

Antone Smith- Game 4. Nuff' said.

Tough cuts and reasoning

Sidbury- He still might be a good one, and has potential, but I just don't see any room right now. If Peters was healthy, I would EASILY give him the extra spot over the DT.

Adkins- Possibly give him Wire's spot, but it's tough to cut a vet.

James- See Adkins, above.

JP Wilson- He hasn't been very good this pre-season, and if we ever get to the third string QB it's a wrap anyway, so cut him free.

Chauncey- Too much money to pay a 4th DE when there are better options. (See Jamaal Anderson).

Practice Squad

(1) Brandyn Harvey- Good side, speed, and I liked the effort to try and run down the interception tonight.

(2) Bear Woods- Seems instinctive. One more year on the squad.

(3) Kamaal McIlwane- Contemplated putting him on the roster over Franks or Walls, and if it were up to me I probably would put him over Franks but I don't think that's very likely at all.

(4) Emmanuel Stephens- Showed promise. One more year on the squad.

(5) Marquez Branson- I can't put my finger on it but I like him.

(6) Andrew Jackson- Contrary to popular belief, he is not very good but he is a draft pick.

(7) Paul Fenaroli

(8) Lucas Cox

I agree with most of it. I rather have Harvey make it over Meier but I believe that Meier is the favorite.

I don't think we will keep that many RB's though. Most teams only keep 3 RB's and 1 FB, not 5 RB's and 1 FB. If we do not keep 3 QB's I think we may go with 4 RB's & 1 FB though. I say Johnson is in trouble with Smith's play tonight.

And as much as I want to agree with D. Walls making the team, I am concerned that the Falcons will keep Owens and try to put Walls on the PS. I would also like to see either Drew Davis or Kevin Cone make the PS.

Also if we go with only 2 QB's I would almost guarantee that we will find a QB to at least put on the PS.

My rationale for keeping Meier is that he was a draft pick and can play emergency QB which gives the flexibility to release JP Wilson. I also agree that a PS QB is needed if we roll with two.

I wouldn't be opposed to going with 3 RBs and re-adding Sidbury. The coaches seem to love Antone, but I'd be fine with him being cut.

I like Cone's measurables. Davis didn't stand out in a positive or negative way. I wouldn't be opposed to either of those guys making it. It looked like Cone got hurt late in the game (along with Strickland), which is why I leaned Harvey.

QB - Agree that JPW is not a good 3rd QB option.

RB - 4 RBs Kept. Johnson gets cut.

WR - Agree completely. Only 5 needed

TE - Agree completely.

OT/OC/OG - Agree completely.

DE - Add Sidbury for now but could get cut be a better option out there after cuts.

DT - Lewis wins last spot.

LB - Wire makes it barely because of special teams...I do like Bear Woods! Will replace Wire in 2012.

CB - Agree completely. Owens just has not shown me anything. DRob better show up this year or else wasted money!!!!

S - Agree completely. Really like Bush.

K - Agree completely.

P - Not impressed with rookie. Saw that Bryant handled some kickoffs. He is cut and a veteran is signed.

LS - Agree completely.

PS

WR(1) - Harvey

FB(1) - Cox

OL(1) - Jackson

TE(1) - Winterswky or Branson

QB(1) - Somebody from Waiver Wire

DL(1) - Stephens

LB(1) - Woods

DB(1) - McIlwane

I haven't liked Bosher ever since I saw him at FNL. Unfortunately, he's going to have to cost us a game before he gets cut.

I doubt owns gets cut. He will step ip at some point. Sidberry needs to be tossed in early but he was injured. 4th rd pick I see him staying. Walls will be a PS guy unfortunately his inexperience will not warrant a spot. But if a corner goes down he will have value. Johnson will be gone but he has potential. Smith showed some flair last year but I think he still will be p.s.

I think we were only gonna carry 7 dlinemen Lewis getting the axe. Matthews and Sid make the team. Valdez will get tossed in early to see how he pans out. He may be waived later if he disappoints a better ps option. Chancy and wilson will be cut.

I think we will keep just 2 QB's this season, risky but in a worst case scenario there are FA that can step in and still play so it's not a huge risk.

Schilinger makes the team as well as someone I'm forgetting

2.

If it was up to me I so would send Owens pack'in, the nightmares just wont stop!

I like yours though

I think Schillinger will make it just because he plays hard on special teams. He is a terrible safety, but guys make it just because of special teams at that level of the depth chart. Maybe Bush is out instead.

I think Adkins or James will make it because of ST as well but not both.

I can't see any way Gartrell Johnson makes this football team.

I think the Falcons will keep 3 QBs and Wire will be cut.

Peyton, that's exactly what I'm seeing, except Wire at LB/ST.

Is 59 Adkins or James? Whoever it is, they looked terrible last night. Beat twice in coverage and missed an open field tackle.

59 is Adkins, 51 is James.

Whichever of the 3 makes it, it will be whover the staff thinks is the best ST player. We don't want to see any of those guys on the field playing defense lol.

Nah, I think Meier will surprise you this year. I don't have a problem with cutting Owens though.

1. Todd McClure is not going on PUP list.

2. Chauncey Davis has zero chance of making this team.

3. Once Rob Bruggeman is healthy then Bret Romberg will be back in retirement.

4. Both Robert James and Stephen Adkins are young draft picks by Thomas Dimitroff.

5. Darrin Walls emergence forces falcons hands upon reluctant release of Christopher Owens.

6. John Parker Wilson has not been as bad as some would think.

7. Injury to Todd McClure seals Mike Peterson's fate.

8. Trey Lewis makes team due to good play and injury to Corey Peters.

9. Kerry Meier can play backup QB if needed until proper replacement is found.

If Chauncey Davis was gonna be cut, I would think he would have already have been cut. Did he even play last night?

If teams know they aren't going to keep a veteran they usually release him and give him a chance to find another job.

I also noticed Chauncey Davis did not play last night, however I assumed it was because he has already been notified he will not make the team.

I also have Mike Peterson, Coy Wire, and Will Svitek being cut as well so it would appear that the falcons do not mind cutting veteran players on final cut day.

I was thinking the same thing. Players like CD they let go early enough to sign with another team so they can learn their system.

Yeah....I don't think there is much chance of Peterson getting cut. He's too versatile. I mean, the guy is probably the first backup at all 3 LB positions.

I actually have given this a lot of thought and sought out information from a number of different resources regarding the falcons linebacking unit.

I was convinced that Mike Peterson and Coy Wire would both make the team as I believe the falcons are more reluctant to cut Coy Wire than Mike Peterson and were planning on keeping seven linebackers.

Todd McClures injury and Robert James play last night changes everything though. Unless the falcons are willing to risk either Jose Valdez or Andrew Jackson surving waivers than the falcons are now forced to keep 10 offensive lineman and only six linebackers.

I really don't think Svitek gets cut. Outside of Romberg (who will be cut when McClure is back), he is the only experienced backup and he is eligible in jumbo formations.

No chance Peterson gets cut. Wire getting cut is a good possibility but I kept him because Adkins and James both seem easily replaceable and Wire has a nose for recovering a big fumble etc. But it all comes down to if he's still a special teams beast. It would probably be cheaper to keep Adkins or James. I think I'd prefer James over Adkins if I had to pick from the two.
