Sanders started 14 games in New England's '07 season, when they went undefeated. That's pretty good news. His stats only improved in the years thereafter.

I'm very excited to see this. Now if Decoud or Moore get injured we have good depth at the safety spot.

Still haven't figured out that nickel spot yet...

Sanders isnt that old, from what I saw when i checked (wasnt he like 27 or 28??) so maybe if he does well this year, we can sign him for 3-4 years and have great depth behind our two young safeties.. Wasn't Coleman like 30+?? despite Coleman being more of an average safety (servicable but not good) where as Sanders looks like hes above average.

Im pretty happy about this!

We are not going to let freaking James Sanders sit on the bench as depth. The guy was a starter for the Patriots and was a consistent player for them. Sanders is going to be our nickle back much like how the Falcons brought in Brian William. I just don't see why you don't plug this experienced talent in from day one.

I'm thinking the same thing. This guy is starter quality. I'd like to see him at nickel for a while. He may not be great there as he's played safety for so long but I'd still be more than happy to try it. I sure hope we do.

Does anyone know why the PATS released him?

"Sanders wasn't given a reason for the team's decision, and said he was disappointed in not having a chance to compete for a roster spot. He injured his left hamstring while doing conditioning work before training camp began, and had only been on the field for four practices before playing in the preseason for the first time Saturday night. He started and played 19 snaps against the Lions."

They're probably just letting some of their younger guys step up, sort of like we did with Williams. I hope that's all it is.

Cap hit vs ability. He wasn't a starter in NE but getting starter money..

(Chung and Merriweather)

See C.Davis in a few days.

He obviously has ability considering the two teams after him KC & us have guys in the FO that would have seen a lot of tape on him.

I thought that I saw earlier that Sanders had the best QB rating amongst the Patriots DBs...QBs rated 77.1 against him and 100+ against Merriwether...but I can't find the link....

I didn't mean he's old like Williams, I just meant they may be letting their younger guys have a chance. They have been drafting a load of DB's the past few years. I don't think Sanders was great but he definitely wasn't bad at all, and some of their younger guys may be up and coming. I'm sort of thinking their situation was similar to ours last year with Moore / Coleman. I could be wrong, I'm just taking a guess since it hasn't been said why he was released.
