Sheldon Cooper
I think Johnson has looked better than Reynolds at RG. I think Jackson has looked good at LG and RG too. I think he could challenge to start next year after time to learn the system. Some people say he gets beat all game, but I see a guy that gets good push in the run game consistantly and often gets blocks downfield on the second level. bighurt
Yeah Johnson looks better in run blocking and anchor better against the bull rush. I think Johnson wins the starting job.
atlGM
Ive liked Johnson all along he looks better all around to me. Reynolds seems like he would be better at tackle in my opinion.
turn'em loose
I watched the second half of the game yesterday, paid attention to the line, and i saw johnson get beat quite a few times with the second string offense. I didnt really get to zoom in on Reynolds that much, but from what i saw in the second half, I think reynolds wins the spot.
Northern_Falcon
They are all playing great Matty Ice didn't get sacked against Pittsburgh's Defence that is pretty incredible
blizzard_falcon
Johnson looked much better than Reynolds did against Pittsburgh. We need to go with Johnson at RG and continue to groom Reynolds as a tackle.OR... play Clabo at LT, Reynolds at RT, and throw T-Rex on the bench. Hoppy™
THANK YOU for creating a good Falcons Football thread. +1 on that feat alone. I was getting pretty tired of sifting through all of this knee-jerk, overreacting drama-queen BS....As for the RG battle: It has been very close to this point... Reynolds and Johnson have both been impressive at times, and have shown the expected rookie mistakes at others.... Luckily, TD proved once again why he is the "NFL Executive of the Year" by managing to address our need for a premier edge rusher without breaking the bank... Before the terms of the Edwards deal were announced, I was pretty sure we were going to lose two starters on the O line....Fortunately, we were able to keep all but one starter, and Baker and Blalock should be improved having another year of experience under their belts....As for Reynolds and Johnson, regardless of which of them will win the starting spot, it's good to know that they will have a seasoned vet on either side (McClure to the left, Clabo to the right) to help cover any rookie mistakes they will make and help bring them along....I would have been FAR more nervous about our O line if we were going into the season with two new starters.... If there is one place on the field that you want consistency and chemistry it is along the O line.... The longer these guys play together, the better they will get.... That is good news for a unit that is relatively young....I think Hawley is being brought along at a perfect pace to eventually take over the difficult role of calling protections, etc. at center (arguably the toughest position to learn in the NFL), and Clabo still has a few good years left...The best thing about how TD is running this team is the way in which he is always planning 3 or 4 years ahead (something he definitely took to heart under Pioli)... I think that our O line will stay as consistent as possible in today's NFL, and we will never have to worry about breaking in multiple new starters, which is something you NEVER want to do with what needs to be the most cohesive unit on your team....I am hoping to see Johnson win the starting RG spot and play the majority of his snaps there.... I'd like to see Reynolds split time as a backup at both the RG and RT spots, and eventually take over for Clabo when he hangs it up....I think the learning curve is a bit more drastic at the tackle than it is at the guard, and I think Reynolds is better suited to play tackle in the NFL....At any rate, both Reynolds and Johnson have a lot of learning to do and will make their shares of rookie mistakes.... And when they do, rest assured that a large contingency here will panic and swear that they are absolute garbage.. real2202
My votes for Johnson although I did see him get beat a few times in the second half.
freebird310
They are trying to force Reynolds into a posistion that it not a natural fit for him, and I think it is starting to show, I say Johnson .
I MUS WRITE
If i had to make a decision today it would be Johnson. He just seems to have IT..... He holds his ground and i never see him get totally blown up, reynolds on the other hand -the film doesnt lie. I think he has a problem getting his pads low. U can be as nasty as u want but if u cant hold your groungd then its a recipe for disaster. kinda like a pug or poodle with a heavy bark..... phattywankenobi
I haven't re watched the game for those two specifically. I don't like to watch it live and praise or call out a guy for noticeable play. What I have read so far Johnson faired better this past game. Actually I believe the Oline overall did very well this week against a very good front 7 in what is usually a troubling 3-4. Last week's protection was horrible. phattywankenobi
I thought our pass protection was pretty good, but our run blocking could have fared much better ...I thought the same thing but I also think that it takes the running game a while to get going sometimes. On a different note it was encouraging watching Taiwan Jones shred the Saints last night

Voice of Reason
To me, Johnson hasn't looked very good this year...until Pittsburgh. It appears he's a bit more natural of a pass protector as he did very well against the Steeler's 34. However, Reynolds has looked good for the most part against the pass and has dominated against the run. Johnson is seeming to struggle in run blocking. If we are to remain a team focusing on the run game, Reynolds has it. IMOAs for Jackson - he has potential, but as of now he can't compare to either Johnson or Reynolds. Jackson was getting beaten like a drum against Pitt. Again, it's the Steelers. They are suppose to beat O-lineman. But Jackson simply isn't there...yet.
ATLBrave
Both have their strengths. Reynolds' is obviously in the run game, and Johnson pass blocking. I've got to agree with another poster here, they are trying to force Reynolds into a position he is not a natural fit at. I've always thought that he was better suited for RT where he can use his leverage as an advantage. If I had to choose one though, it'd be Reynolds.
