Dem Birds
It's preseason, we are trying things out, this is why I'm not worried. We aren't going to be spreading them out like that in regular games, I'm sure. We are still a running team, we've just been trying out our new passing attack. Borat
I loved seeing the 3 wide with Quizz in the backfield.
Voice of Reason
That's how you gameplan for a 3-4 defense. You spread it out. Always been that way, always will be.
The Don™
I would like to see Meier out there as the 4th WR sometimes instead of Gonzo....I like when we spread it out, but it's usually the same 4 four receiving options.

If we have a running back in the backfield, that's when the offense is going to be the most dangerous.

FalconState
we are not changing the way we play ball look back to last season the 3-4 teams we spread them out but we are a run first punch you in mouth team
madman88
Im wondering if any of you have any opinions on this...spread formation is almost always done in shotgun... we spread the defense out, but spreading a defense out and spread formation are two different things.... red falcon
like others said, I think the game plan was changed due to the defense we were playing.
ukfalc
It makes a lot of sense to run 10 and 11 personnel. The days of 2 big backs - who are rarely used in the passing game - 1 TE and 2 WRs on every down are gone. Today the NFL is a passing league and you need to be able to effectively use 3 WR sets. FalconMama
That's how you beat the Steelers, that's how Green Bay beat them in the Super Bowl.
Atl/0
What they need to do is stop sending Turner out in the slot. Nobody is falling for that **** But seriously adding one reciever is not going to change the philosophy of this offensive scheme. Don't expect us to look like green bay, Philly, or NE because that's not what we do.
Atl/0
True but I have to admit when the offense started to get into sync with White, Jones and Douglas on the field you could tell it was hard for the Steelers to match up. Last year the offense did more passing plays than running plays and I don't see that pattern changing. Looking at this team now, Jones and Douglas have the speed to go deep and burn single coverage and Turner yards have come this preseason AFTER Ryan put the ball in the air a few times. Also looking at the previous 2 preseason games even though Roddy wasn't getting the ball thrown his way he was beating his one on one coverage. It seems to me Ryan is showcasing Jones and Douglas to make them viable pass options to opposing teams. I think that this is a smart idea to drill it into these two guys head now that they will be an important part of the offense. It's possible but we won't see that much trips looks like we did yesterday since we had no choice up against a 3-4 defense. there will be times that we will go stretches with many passes like last night but I just have a hard time seeing it. Hashbrown3
Lets put it this way... we ain't showin' jack yet... I wouldn't want to be the Chicago D at all... Just wait fellas~~~
84White32Quizz
I dont see this team doing a lot like last night, but I do exoect to see this team do this kind of stuff at times during a game to pick up some easier TD's.Imo we will still pound the rock like usual and run play action and kill the clock, but spreading teams out like we did last night is obviously a part of this offense and we can go to it when we want points and we want them quick.Other than missing some passes we moved the ball well vs the steelers and di it with ease at times. hakim24
I think we are gradually moving towards a Matt Ryan lead offense. I don't think we are going to line up and give the ball to Turner (or any other RB) 300+ times anymore. You just don't make a huge move for Julio Jones if your plan is to keep the offense the same. We won't completely abandon the run, but we definitely won't be running the same type of offense that we have run in the past imo.
madman88
Nobody probably notice but last night the team was running some Green Bay plays AND doing a pretty good job of it. I didn't notice it at first until a couple of friends that are Green Bay fans started saying "Heil Naw, your boys are running some of our plays!" Looking at the replays I had to agree. If you are going to copy somebody that would be a team we should copy.wat plays would that be? cause a lot of teams run similar plays... there only so many route combinations u can do... Atlfanstckndenver
I realize that spreading the D out is how you attack the steelers. I have to disagree tho with whoever stated we strictly do not run spread formations tho. Take a look at last yrs Baltimore game. You will see us in a five wide set. Despite Gonzo being in on that formation it is still a spread formation is it not? Now obviously we mostly ran it in the no huddle offense but we have had moments (and good moments at that) where we do spread the opposing defense out. Im hoping we didnt just practice it because of Pittsburgh, I just really hope this is a sign of things to come in the future.
freebird310
Prolly the last time we ever throw 100 passes in a half LOL ........
madman88
Not the Falcons last year... prolly so.. but still.. my point is that u can only run so many different pass plays. and all thoes passes looked similar to our offense... just the fact that we didnt throw deep as much the past three years made it look different... but im going to go look at it again to be sure
Radical
We ran multiple 4-5 receiver looks last year. We ran them starting with the Steelers game, and a notable one early in the year was the one against the Cardinals where Roddy scored a TD after coming under Gonzo.
