I wonder who Mike Smith considers his 3rd cornerback?

Doesn't sound like you live in the state of Ga. but rather the state of denial. :P

I live in the state of GA, and I think that is going to be the right line-up.

Good day sir.

Actually, the way Mike Smith's quote reads, Owens is considered higher in the depth chart. If Owens can't go then Franks is the choice.

Team's best CBs typically play LCB, because that is where QBs like to throw. I think that is what he is referring to.

When Robinson was signed last season, the Falcons wanted to keep Grimes at RCB and let Robinson play LCB. However during preseason last season, Dunta asked to be moved back to RCB, the position he was most familiar playing in the past. The Falcons obliged Robinson's request, and he was moved to RCB and Grimes to LCB before the first regular season game last year.

The following RapidReport was added today after my initial post to start this topic thread:

"40 minutes ago - by Alex Raskin - Giants may sign former Falcons CB Williams

Former Falcons CB Brian Williams is close to signing with the Giants, Mike Garafolo of The Star-Ledger wrote on his Twitter account. Williams competed with former Eagles CB Lito Sheppard and two other CBs for the right to replace CB Terrell Thomas (IR, knee). Falcons RapidReports"

I'll also edit the initial topic post to include this one too.

The CB to the right of the quarterback is ALWAYS considered the #1 CB. That's where the #1 WR lines up the majority of the time and that's where the ball goes most of the time. The LCB is the #1 CB, and that's where Grimes lines up.

Can't argue with that. Given the play making ability Grimes displays on the ball, I think he probably deserves #1 billing.

My guess would be,

1) DRob

2) grimes

3) franks

4) owens

5) Walls.

Though I hope walls and owens either split time to keeep both fresher, (possibly less mistakes) or bring in vet help early. Or owens just goes away with a quiet boom to his crack..

Honestly by Game 4 I think Walls is ahead of Owens and Owens will only be a reserve CB and special teamer. Walls has been a tremendous pick up and I think he will just continue to progress. With some polish he could be one heck of a nickel CB with his size, speed, and playmaking awareness.
