The performance of the individual mentioned in the original post presents many opportunities for improvement. He did not create a synergynistic, cross platform convergence with the other individuals in his multi-user, cross functional team. He will need to learn to create collaborative niches, and envisioneer out-of-the-box channels for his coworkers to leverage their skillsets.

Just because there are opportunities for improvement doesn't mean that they will necessarily happen. Sure he may gel with the rest of the line when he gets thrown into the fire, but he still doesn't look like a capable replacement for McClure once he retires or gets injured.

Assessment of an individual's career is based on one game too much around here. Hawley played one preseason game and now he isn't a viable option to replace McClure. Let's throw him on the same scrap heap as Owens.

Yes Hawley struggled but he is a second year player, playing the second hardest position on the OLine. Don't crucify him already. Let him establish a body of work first.

give a player time to develop without game experience?! Preposterous !!!! There will be no such thing around these boards.. if you don't walk in day 1 a bonified 1st team all pro then gtfo!

He was also playing right next to another first time starter in Reynolds as well. 2 first time starters playing directly next to one another = smh .

I'm willing to let him get some more real time reps before I freak out on him.

I must have been watching a different game. I watched Hawley closely while he was in and I thought he played well. Sure he struggled at times - more in run blocking than pass protection - but the good far outweighed the bad. If you're looking for a goat in that game (OL), Blalock is your man. Baker didn't do bad. I didn't get a chance to watch the right side much.

Blalock was bullied by Alualu all game. Hawley had an ok game and Baker struggled mightily in my opinion. He struggles with DEs with an above average first step and is forced to try and ride them out of the play.

I have to disagree about Baker. Watch him exclusively for the first 2 qtrs then let me know if you feel the same.

You must have watched a different game. Hawley played HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Turner couldn't even think about hitting a whole. He had people in his face as soon as he got the ball. Matt was constantly out of the pocket mainly because of him. He needs some work.

Wait I think they may be on to something,-- the Falcon's need to get rid of Hawley and Owens right now ----do not waste any more time on them.

Just like the Falcons should have gotten rid of Grimes and Weems after their first couple of games and not held on to those losers.

Clabo did not look too good when he got his starts in 2006 and Dahl look bad in his one game in 2007

You forgot Roddy White. He can't catch a cold. And Tony Gonzalez is holding Ryan back. Boot his sorry tail out too. 

Was it just me or was I correct in seeing way too much of Joe Hawley getting spun around like a top on nearly every play causing the pocket to breakdown immediately and forcing Matt to run for his life?

In addition to Franks, Reynolds and Johnson, the Falcons took a long look at backup center Joe Hawley against Jacksonville. He bungled a couple of pass-protection calls early in the game, but settled down.

“It’s happens,” center Todd McClure said. “Everybody makes mistakes. He went out there and handled himself well."

I never said get rid of him and the thought never even crossed my mind. I was just stating that if he was this bad in a preseason game that meant absolutely nothing it's scary to think how bad he could be in a regular season game if McClure gets hurt this year. Mind you we do play Jacksonville during the regular season too so that thought also went into making this thread.

So I see you're following the old axiom ... "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull sh*t.":lol:
