Mike Mularkey is just not getting it done.

Tired of MM and this vanilla play calling. Honestly it's so predictable to read his playcalling; Here's what i have seen so far that im not digging.

1) Running the ball on the 2 yard line in the backfield for 0 yardage.

2) The routes our wr's are getting are too shallow and not deep enough ( you see what happened when we gave all 3 or 4 of our receivers longer routes and Harry turned it upfield, that should be happening like clockwork for us!)

3) You give turner the ball on 1st and 2nd down and wait until 3rd to throw it. He's wasting our downs when we have a great passing core.

We don't need to start wasting clock unless we have a minimum of 10+ point margin, it's not cool!

Also, I don't wanna hear a reply that says its just a preseason game because this is the time to start building good habits and if we wanna start winning playoff games this vanilla play calling has got to stop!

Our OL has blown camel dong in the preseason. Ryan has to get rid of the ball way too fast way too often. This actually dates back to his rookie year. While I am no fan of mularkey, if we cant protect the QB for 2 seconds and have penetration into our backfield when we run, what can MM really do? Clabo is the only OL i have any faith in, Blalock im ok with. Baker and the rest need quite a bit of work.

Oh please. Idiots have been calling for his head since 08, and idiots will continue to complain about him as we have another Top 5 NFL offense. By your logic, Mularkey must be one of the best OCs of all time with the amount of whining about there is about him. As you said, negativity means he's doing good. The more people complain, the better he is, right?

-1 for trying to reason with the insane.

Mike Mularkey is one of the better OC in the NFL. He has respect all over the league. It's due to Matt Ryan, Michael Turner and the offense that the Falcons have a 33-15 record since 2008. That offense protects a somewhat porus defense led by BVG. Last season the Falcons were 5th in scoring in the league. In 2008 they were 10th (rookie QB) and in 2009 (the injury season) they were 13th. Now consider they've done this with Norwood being injury prone and not really having an outside threat other than Roddy White. I'm sure the reason most people don't like MM is because his offense lacks pop and sizzle. They're changing that though, that's why they drafted Julio. HD is healthy and they also drafted Quizz. You'll see more big plays and an even higher PPG average.

2010 Offensive Scoring PPG

1 New England Patriots 32.4

2 San Diego Chargers 27.6

3 Philadelphia Eagles 27.4

4 Indianapolis Colts 27.2

5 Atlanta Falcons 25.9

6 Oakland Raiders 25.6

7 Dallas Cowboys 24.6

7 New York Giants 24.6

9 Houston Texans 24.4

10 Green Bay Packers 24.2

Maybe with the addition of JJ11 and the comeback of HD, we can get in the 30' for PPG.

2008 = Ranked 4th in scoring with 24 points per game.

2010 = Tied for 8th with New England with 21 points per game.

The mere fact that you now want to compare preseason play to postseason play .... mind boggling.

I wasn't making a comparison. I was asking a question considering the fact that we have claims that Mularkey has kept plays under wraps for the playoffs.

What I found mind boggling was how our offense ranked dead last in post season rushing yards and second to last in passing yards in 2010.

This is either a lack of game planning by our focus and/or lack of execution by our players.

It was understandable in 2008 when we accredited it all to it being our first postseason game in the new era, but how long will we continue to make excuses instead of demanding change?

We got behind early and you don't run the ball to play catch up in a shootout.

Roddy was our 1st, and 3rd passing option (Tony was the 2nd) Green Bay knew and double Roddy and TG. Ryan needed a RELIABLE 2nd WR option again not MM fault and still scored 3 TDs in a losing effort.

So if the same happens again this year, what will fans say?

However, running the ball may have actually been a good offensive strategy. Considering how tired our defense was from such long drives, running the ball may have been a good way to keep our defense at least a little fresh instead of turning the ball over by passing it.

We should have kept running the ball when they scored again after Weems' kick return instead of panicking and trying to pass the ball. If Mularkey's offense was so good, why did he abandon it?

Post season stats are pointless. Some teams play more games than others in the post season. Pulling out postseason statistics is silly.

TD got hosed in the trade up for Julio Jones, fans complain if Smitty is happy with him then we suck it up or find another team to root for. After all the Falcons have had an All Star history before they arrived on the scene.

Why do Atlanta fans always use the "its better than how things were before" argument all the time?

Our offense is not living up to it's full potential. We have a passing attack that can rival that of the Patriots or Green Bay. Take of the training wheels and let's turn into a 7 on 7 passing threat. I know people are thinking, well don't forget about Turner and how the running games open up play action, etc opportunities for the passing game. We still are a smashmouth football team and yada yada yada. Well Turner is not a scoring threat outside of the redzone, he doesn't have the speed to beat most DB's and some linebackers unlike other backs such as; CJ2K, AP28, Jammal Charles, Fadden, etc. Time to hand in the old playbook and switch it for that west coast offense. Cmon..... who's with me!

Series after the Packers scored following the TD return by Weems...

1st and 10 - Run by Turner for 4 yards

2nd and 6 - Pass to Finneran for 11 yards

1st and 10 - Incomplete pass, Roughing the Passer for 15 yards

1st and 10 - Run by Turner for 7 yards

2nd and 3 - Pass to Jenkins for 13 yards

1 and 10 - Run by Turner for 1 yard

2nd and 9 - False Start by Dahl for -5 yards

2nd and 14 - Matt Ryan sacked for -7 yards

3rd and 21 - Interception by Tramon Williams

Yeah, we totally abandoned the run and started chucking the ball eh? The series after we were passing to get in range for a field goal inside 42 seconds from our 35 yard line.

We seemed to be moving the ball. And if I recall, Matt got picked off throwing an out route to the far left. On 3rd and 21 Mularkey shouldn't have called such a poor play.

That was the nail in the coffin.

If he had continued to run the ball, we may have punted yes, but we could have held the offense to a field goal instead of giving them 7 points from the interception-touchdown.

No, on 3rd and 21 is when Matt threw late on and behind an open Michael Jenkins down the right sideline for a potential touchdown, where Jenkins then proceeded to slip and pretty much give the ball to him.

On the drive on the last seconds of the half is where the pick 6 was thrown, which was just a poor decision by Matt, nothing else.
