The Dirty Bird
I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread (that was pinned by the mods please) that could follow cuts made by teams around the league and players placed on the trading block. If someone thinks a player that is waived could be a good fit for the Falcons that could post in here who the player is and why he is a good fit -- same goes for a guy like Johnny Knox who is rumored to be on the trade block. This will be especially interesting as the pre-season wraps up, as teams will have to cut a lot of players and there is teams with excellent depth players that will have to be let go.Go to the last page to see the most recent rumors, waiver possibilities, and free agents.EDIT: With roster cut days coming us, there will be a lot of information coming around very quickly. Go straight to the last page to see what's new.Best,TDB Edited August 31, 2011 by The Dirty Bird
The Dirty Bird
Mods please pin this -- could be a fun exercise for board members throughout the season to bring up players they like that could end up on the team, and an especially interesting one as the pre-season ends.Idk where the neg came from, but I'm guessing it's someone who doesn't like Devine or Mays. AtlantaFalconPokerPro
Noel devine signed with the cfl, afl, or whatever they call it. Maybe it would help if you listed players actually available. Plus, don't you think we would have already signed him if we wanted him?

Tribal Chief
We may not be making any more moves. We have very, very little cap space. There's not to much we can do with 1 milli unless we let one of our big names go

There's not to much we can do with 1 milli unless we let one of our big names goPretty sure the new cap rooms allow you to always sign players to the league minimum -- which would be the case for a lot of these guys. The new cap is a soft cap, much like the NBA, so as long as certain rules are met players may be signed.

JTFalcon89
No thanks I would like to add to backup Moore or DeCoud on the other side from Rafael Bush. But Taylor Mays not a fan of his. Noel Devine quit on the Eagles he is the last guy I want.

Noel Devine quit on the Eagles he is the last guy I want.I believe Devine was promised a role on the Eagles, which is why he left us at the last second for them. The Eagles are least loyal team in the NFL, and also brought in RB Derrick Locke. With Dion Lewis, Devine, and Locke all on the team as backups to McCoy, Devine knew he'd probably never see the field so he wanted out.Reality is he never should have went there. There are a lot of teams that could use a weapon like him -- we are one, the Bucs are another, the Colts, Dolphins as Reggie Bush insurance, 49ers, Bears, Chargers as a Sproles replacement -- the list goes on.The last team in the NFL that needed Devine was the Eagles, followed by the Lions.Any player that can catch a screen pass and take it 20+ yards I think would be useful on this team. Same for any player that can release out of the backfield on 3rd down, catch a swing pass, and take it for the first down. If Jacquizz gets hurt, then we have no one to do that. The Dirty Bird
Can't wait until Madden. Noel Devine FTW.By the way, I don't know if you've seen the player ratings but Taiwan Jones is basically a Top 10 back in Madden. He has top end speed (95), acceleration (96), and agility (92), very good catching and good elusiveness, spin, and juke moves. And yet his overall is a 63. Talk about a great Madden pick up for a 7th round draft pick trade

The Dirty Bird
so let's trade a draft pick (if we have any left) for a starter type safety like Taylor Mays.. great move.. LOLI can see your skiing has left you unaware of the state of the Falcons. Let me catch you up. We have a 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th next year. We lost Harvey Dahl (by design) but brought in Ray Edwards, so we won't be getting any compensatory picks. We have no safety depth -- it is perhaps the position we have the least depth at, since Rafael Bush is a safety/CB hybrid -- but that still leaves only one.Taylor Mays would not have been a starter for us, he would have been a core special teamer and a second string safety. Next year, our worst case scenario is DeCoud leaves in free agency and we have Mays as a starting safety until we can find someone else. We also have a 3rd safety to use in 3 safety sets, and he'd actually be a good quarter defense safety as the middle of the field enforcer instead of ballhawk. The Bengals traded for him, no doubt to let him compete for a starting spot. Now they have Robert Sands and Taylor Mays, two guys with unparalleled athleticism and a lot of potential. In all likelihood Sands will beat out Mays for one spot, and Mays will be the top backup and a core special teamer in Cincy. It's funny how people who don't know what they are talking about usually end sentences in "LOL".........lmfao . The Dirty Bird
Richard Quinn, TE, formerly of the BroncosQuinn was cut yesterday, and while overdrafted in the 2nd round by Josh McDaniels still has raw talent as a TE and is a top tier blocker. He was cut for three reasons: 1) He was a draft pick of the old regime, 2) The new regime drafted two tight ends, Julius Thomas and Virgil Green, looking for more athletic types, and 3) He injured his knee and will miss most of the seasonWe have two old veterans, Tony Gonzalez and Reggie Kelly, and one average tight end in Michael Palmer. Kelly is a one year TE and replacement for Peelle, and Tony at this point in his career is almost strictly a pass catcher. Quinn is the kind of TE Mularkey usually looks for -- a good inline blocker and a decent mid-range target -- and even though we are looking to pass more, I think that means more targets for the WRs and the slot position than the TE position.Quinn's rookie deal ends after 2012, so if we claim him we can let him heal up this season and give him a try out next season in two tight end sets. It's also always good to have good depth, and Quinn would certainly provide that with Reggie Kelly gone. He would cost no draft pick, as we'd just have to claim him off waivers and stash him on IR.The Broncos TE position was certainly one to watch, much like the Rams and Eagles backfields, because it is stacked with talent and not all of the TEs would make the squad. While not a vertical threat, Quinn will find a home in the NFL as a TE in a power-running offense. Maybe that will be our team, maybe it won't, but it certainly makes sense. The Dirty Bird
James Davis, RB, formerly of the Redskins -- waived August 21While not exactly full of star RBs, the Redskin backfield had one or two too many backs in it and you knew at least one was going to be let go. The only reason Davis was let go was because after flashing promise, Shanahan arrived and drafted two RBs -- Roy Helu Jr. and Evan Royster -- and traded for Tim Hightower. Davis wanted out, and the Redskins obliged.Davis, famously known as the thunder counterpart at Clemson for CJ Spiller's lightning, is a quick one-cut runner who is capable of working between the tackles. He is more talented than most #3 RBs in the NFL, and on the right team he could be the #2 change-of-pace back (Bengals, Broncos, Lions, Cardinals).Given Ryan Williams' injury, I will be shocked if Davis does not end up on the Cardinals. After trading Hightower and given Wells' injury history, the Cardinals sorely need depth at the RB spot and one man's trash is Arizona's treasure (hypothetically) in this scenario. The Bears would have been a great fit before they brought in Marion Barber, making the Lions the next best fit with Mikel Leshoure out for the year. Jahvid Best is better than CJ Spiller, and James Davis could play the power runner role in Detroit.Davis would be a very good fit as depth at RB and a special teamer, but with Snelling back I don't know if we'd bring in a #4 RB given our needs at safety, corner, and o-line for depth. He'd still fit our offense very well as a multi-skilled back, much like Snelling.
The Dirty Bird
Kyle Calloway, RT, formerly of the Baltimore RavensCalloway was a very solid RT at Iowa, a power-running team in the Big 10, and projected to be a solid starting RT in the pros after a few years of development. Calloway however ended up in Baltimore after being drafted by Buffalo, and Baltimore had Michael Oher and Jared Gaither locked into the OT spots. They then drafted OT Jah Reid this year, which spelled the end for Calloway.Unlike some of the other players mentioned who may fit best on another team, Calloway's best fit is probably Atlanta. Calloway is a very similar prospect to Garrett Reynolds -- huge RTs who aren't tremendously athletic but are solid lineman -- and he comes from a power-running background. Calloway would probably be best off inside at guard, and his mauling attitude fits what we look for in lineman, as well as his versatility. Calloway, like Reynolds, could be depth for the RT and OG spots. If Clabo were to get hurt next season, Calloway could step in to start after a year of coaching in Atlanta. If Mike Johnson has progressed markedly more than Calloway, Reynolds could slide over to RT and Johnson could step into RG -- and we'd still have Calloway as our top reserve lineman. We like lineman who can backup multiple positions, and we like maulers. Calloway fits that model well.

vafalconfan
Taylor's fit in Cincy7:41AM ET Taylor Mays | 49ers | Interested: Bengals? TopEmailComments2It looks like the San Francisco 49ers won't have to cut second-year safety Taylor Mays, after all.According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Cincinnati Bengals have traded an undisclosed draft pick to the Niners in exchange for Mays. This comes days after the Chicago Bears made an offer that wasn't to the 49ers' liking, and on the same day that Niners defensive coordinator Vic Fangio praised five out of six safeties on his roster (Mays being the lone man unmentioned).ESPN AFC North blogger James Walker comments that Mays will have a chance to compete for a starting job against Chris Crocker and Reggie Nelson.- Tim Kavanagh
