Sheldon Cooper
Cliff Matthews, Andrew Jackson, and Darrin Walls have made this team if the regular season started tomorrow.Matthews had the sack, but what impressed me more was that it came on a bull rush in which he beat his man on the inside shoulder. The RT was probably a scrub being in the 4th qtr, but he also got in the QB's face on that play in 3 seconds and had him on the ground in 4. QB's are supposed to get the ball out in 3 seconds. He also made hustle plays in the run game and was not man handled working down the line on run plays. Most importantly he did not run himself out of plays behind the QB every play. Sidbury could be in trouble. I think Matthews is a lock as the 5th DE, and I think Davis stays as #4. Sidbury could be cut or traded, especially if a DT is the compensation. Jackson gets good push in the run game with consistancy. He looked good at LG early and also at RT late. He gave up a hit on the QB early on a stunt, but got out behind the LT to pick up the blitzer on the same play later in the game. He actually holds his ground a little better than Reynolds IMO. Did not look horrible at RT either. He and Johnson both have potential as a RT in a pinch. I currently see us keeping 9 OL with Clabo, Reynolds, McClure, Blalock, Baker, Svitek, Hawley, Johnson, and Jackson being the 9.Walls impressed on kick coverage as well as down field coverage. He seems a shoe in as 5th CB and Ster. I like that he wraps up and tackles low, taking out the legs. Franks and Owens tackle high although franks is big enough to engulf ball carriers. Owens bounces off too many tackles because he tackles too high and is too small to compensate. Walls does not have a smooth back pedal, but he stays with his man deep, so who cares. That could be another reason he went undrafted.

Bush can double as a safety too which is enticing if they want to try and add a player at another position (WR, RB). We'll see though
HouseofEuphoria
Great work. All three have impressed me as well.I would be surprised, though, if Jose Valdez does not make the team.10 Olinemen? It's not unheard of.
BadMoonRising
+1 I like the detail. We all need to keep in mind though is its just one preseason game. It also was the first so the players listed could be playing against players who will be sacking groceries next month. There is nothing wrong with being excited and these three earned the right to go forward. But don;t discredit other players who might not have shined as much this week since they may have been facing better talent. We are lost as fans until the 3rd preseason game really when we will only see first second and third stringers and a larger majority of the players on the field make the team. It's not unheard of.Nice write-up, bier-fann. I completely agree that Cliff Matthews has just as much (or even a better) shot of making the roster than Sidbury if we're going off of their Week 1 performances only.In my opinion we are the deepest at offensive line, linebacker and wide receiver. I'm really interested to see how final cuts play out over the next few weeks.

I would hate to be the ones to make those cuts.

Matthews had a few nice rushes, but more specifically, he actually ran himself out of the play chasing the QB on an upfield rush on the TD throw that Belgrave gave up. Matthews didn't get close to the QB not nearly the amount of times as Sidbury.I've watched this game quite a few times. There are ONLY two plays where you get to see downfield coverage from Walls; on one, he bit on an underneath route and turned his man loose for a TD before the end of the first half. On the other however, he was impressive running step for step with the receiver. But w/o the Coach's Cam, no one here can say with any certainty how well/poorly any particular DB played. The way the staff was running the substitutions, it was tough enough trying to determine who was in and where they were lined up (slot, inside or safety) on any given play. Also, your assessment of Owens couldn't be more wrong. Owens is the second-best tackling corner on the roster, behind Dunta Robinson. He's also one of the strongest and toughest. Say what you will about his coverage skills, but his toughness and tackling ability should never be questioned. You're definitely gonna have to tell me the minutes of the game where he was bouncing off ball carriers, as you put it.

Any option other than NFL.com preseason live? Comcast on demand maybe. Nothing illegal but just want to know if there is any other way to see this game. I just checked to see if NFL Network would replay it, but they're just keeping the same five games in rotation. Good news is, brand new game to dissect on Friday! Last week's game has been broken down about every which way it can on here.
