Falconsfan567
Sorry if this topic has already been posted like a bazillon times but I don't have the chance to get on here much and I tried searching for this topic and the search feature doesn't work. Go Figure. But did you guys watch the thing on ESPN about this new Total QB Rating? I think it's awesome that using last year's stats Matty Ice ranked 3rd in the NFL behind only Brady and Manning. Matty Ice finally getting the credit he deserves!

SyCo
I dont know if the new ranking takes off. Theres alot of people who aren't buying into it. People think playoff wins should be a stat when grading a qb.

People think playoff wins should be a stat when grading a qb.But wins are a team stat. Not an indiviual stat. This Total QB Rating has nothing to do with wins and nothing to do with what the other players on the team do. Unlike the NFL Passer Rating which is so flawed it's hilarious that people give it any attention. How can a QB be penalized when he throws for 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions and 350 yards and his team loses 35-28? That's not even close to fair.

People think playoff wins should be a stat when grading a qb.I thinks its inevitable that advanced stats are going to gain more traction in Football circles, kinda of how Sabermetrics have become so huge in the MLB. Maybe not this stat, but I think it's a step in the right direction. Edited August 15, 2011 by Wow-Jones Industrial

Falconsfan567
So in 2010 Matt Ryan finished 3rd. In 2011 Matt Ryan finished 5th. Now what must happen for that to transfer to the playoffs? Hopefully the OC change will make it happen.
Falconsfan567
Oh and here's a stat for all you Matt Ryan is a statue back there. ESPN has this thing broken down like WAR is broken down in baseball. If you know what WAR is you know that there is an offensive WAR and defensive WAR. Will ESPN has a pass EPA and rush EPA. Matt Ryan had the 10th best rush EPA in the NFL at -0.3. It's basically a stat that takes into account a QB's contribution as a rusher. For those of you that brag about what Drew Brees does he was 9th in the NFL at 0.7. Some of the guys Matt Ryan was better than according to this stat, Tony Romo -1.3, Tom Brady -2.8, Philip Rivers -3.3 and Matthew Stafford -3.5.Number 1 in the NFL was Cam Newton at a staggering 20.7. That's 10 points higher than Aaron Rodgers 10.9 who finished 2nd.
Master Exploder
Total QBR is an interesting thing. I've never really bought into it and I doubt many people will unless they release the formula. However, I averaged out all of the TQBR since 2008 (as far as they go back) and found Matt Ryan (66.6 TQBR) at #6 out of all 32 current starting QB's with just 0.4 points away from Philip Rivers at #5.It's certainly interesting, because 50 is supposed to be average.Regardless I think it is severely flawed unless I'm just not reading into it correctly. Matt Ryan hasn't stepped up in the play-offs, but at least we know we're not too far away.

Now we just need to see that happen in the playoffs. Also. that run number improved greatly from 2010. In 2010 he was at -3.4. To to improve to -0.3 was an outstanding improvement. Also as far as just passing goes in 2010 Matt Ryan finished 2nd with the only guy better being Brees.

Every week I would look at QB's with a higher rating than Ryan but they threw less TD's and more INT's but because they completed more dump off passes or had more yards their rating is higher. Jah
smhIt amazes me that you take offense to any criticism of Turner (who has a total of 120 some odd yards in 3 playoff games), yet you dole out criticism of Ryan without hesitation. Not a fan of Ryan's skillset.

He probably shouldn't demand to be paid like a Top 5 QB (a la Flacco), but Top 10 certainly isn't out of the question.

I know how the NFL comes up with their rating and it's a horrible formula. They place way too much importance on yards per attempt and completion percentage and not enough importance on touchdowns and interceptions. That's how come guys can have more interceptions than Matt but have higher ratings because they have a higher completion percentage and more yards. Guest Negatorris
I think the same about anyone who thinks that Turner had nothing to do with 10-6. Not a fan of Ryan's skillset.Turner put us in position to win the Iggles game, and had a few more 100 yard games. Other than that, he was a non-factor in 10/16 games when I look at the stats. Only in one game that we lost this year, did Turner hit 100 yards, and those stats were blown up from one long run that didn't matter because the game was over at that point(CHI). In the 10 games we won, Turner only had 100+ yards in 5, and that's counting the Bucs game. You say you don't like Ryan's skillset, but Turner is possibly the most one dimensional player on the offense. He is big and strong and that's all. All he does is run up the gut, and he will get caught easily when trying to reach the edge. Not to mention he can't catch at all. While Ryan was consistent and caught defense off guard to get us to ten wins, Turner did the same thing all year, hoping someone would miss a tackle. When your own team mates are making jokes about baiting you with snacks to get TDs, then you know it's bad. Do you want someone like Cam, with all the muscles, and athletic ability since I'm sure you like his 'skillset'. Ryan was the most consistent player on offense along with Gonzo, throughout the whole season, playing behind a creaky line so what was Turner's excuse for underachieving? And I see you hinting about Ryan's playoff success, or lack thereof. Just know that Turner was hardly an impact in the playoffs either. :/Don't be a hypocrite. Face it. Turner's time is near done in ATL, unless he pulls a Josh Smith and suddenly looses all his weight. Ryan will be here when Turner is long gone, buddy.
