cnst
Search engine is down so I’m not sure if it’s been posted already. I’m not sure what I was watching, might have been the NFL Films special on the NFL Network but they were going to commercial when they played an unusual clip. It was Tony Gonzalez sitting on the bench looking up at the TE coach Chris Scelfo. The shot was from behind and Gonzalez was unaware he was on film. He was pissed and said to Scelfo “Why don’t you just let me play my game? You’re trying to change me... just like my wife”. Good Lord I KNOW he didn’t want that recorded.Aside from the back-handed comment about his wife, it bothers me that he feels like he’s being told to play in a way that’s not his own. A player with his talent and experience, I would think you find a way to make the playbook fit him.

AtlantaFalconPokerPro
That happened last season, and has been played numerous times. It has been on the show where the mic the players a bunch too. Players often express their opinion to coaches. In other words, it's nothing out of the ordinary. Plus, doesn't every husband say similar things about their wife? Not really a big deal IMO.Did you recently get NFL Network?

AtlantaFalconPokerPro
Agreed no big deal but that doens't make it any less funny...IMO.Your original post sounded like you thought it was a serious problem, or that TG has an attitude problem. TG is one player that knows his position better than the coach coaching him. He should( and obviously does) have the ability to speak up when he's not put in a position for him or the team to be successful. I didn't sound like you were pointing out the humor in the situation. cnst
Sorry about that. I thought the humor was self evident. I don't think TG had an attitude problem but more of a coaching philosophy problem. I just never heard anything but praise from him for the coaches and his team. For him to then comment "let me play my game" then there's obviously a conflict there.
OilFuturesTrader19
That was from the Philly game where he was being used as a blocker and didn't do to well. That was his reference. He's a pass catching tight end..that's his game. Not so surprisingly, the next week vs. the Bengals, they put in Svitek (I think) as a tight end in running plays and the offense did much better. In which M Ryan made the famous "we changed our blocking schemes" statement, which they really didn't change their scheme, just replaced Gonzo. AutoMax
This pot has been stirred enough. I'm pretty sure that whatever issues caused that comment have been worked out by now.
Northern_Falcon
He is the best TE to ever play the game. He should be allowed to play how he wants. And I saw this the other day. If his wife is pissed id be happy to take her off his hands :P

Falcon Man™
He is the best TE to ever play the game. He should be allowed to play how he wants. We should utilize his talents the best we can and put him in the most opportunistic positions in order to do that. And I saw this the other day. If his wife is pissed id be happy to take her off his hands :PFixed. The players don't run this team. Edited August 15, 2011 by 2Legit2quit!
