Roddy and Gonzo took it in the shorts

There have been four linchpins to the Falcons offense over the last three seasons. Ryan, Turner, White, and for the last two, Gonzo. You'd think that all four had earned some respect from their offensive coordinator, but that's clearly not the case. Mike Mularkey decided to turn PS1 into the Julio Jones show. Gonzo was targeted once. Roddy not at all. I get the Jones love, but that's no way to treat a first-ballot Hall of Famer and last year's most prolific receiver in the NFC. Gonzalez and White are the two most prideful men in that locker room - last night their coordinator deliberately stepped on their cranks. I like Mularkey a whole lot more than most on this board, but he created a rift Friday night and he needs to pull his head out.

I understand the animosity, but then I saw Roddy was the first guy over on all 3 completions to congratulate JJ.....to see our vet WR mentoring JJ....that was a great sight. That's the team spirit we need to get to that next level.

It's about building all parts of our team. JJ is going to be our starting #2, no question.....so he needs these reps.

So, do you see these conspiracies at work in every aspect of your daily life?

Or do they just affect your football world?

Not necessarily, a lot could be based off of the expectations of their involvement going into the game. Ryan & Abe may have gone in the certain expectations & Roddy/TG gone in with different ones as to their involvement in the offense. My guess is that probably the first 15 or so plays were scripted and if plays for Roddy & TG were pulled during the game and replaced with more plays for JJ, then they might be pizzed about that.

But your and Joe's comment that as competitors they want to compete doesn't hold water if Ryan and Abe are happy on the sidelines while other players take their spots. There is no difference.

Guessing at their expectations is as silly as guessing what they might be thinking. I could make the argument they were mad they had to play in a preseason game at all. I'd have no proof of it but I can make outlandish guesses at what goes through another person's mind too.

So instead of seeing what our new rookie wide receiver has, we should see what our best players have, even though we already know their good? Interesting concept

I was glad they got the ball to Julio. I wanted to see what the kid had and I liked what I saw!!!!

Roddy's interview today. Essentially, it doesn't even bother Roddy if it happens during regular season. "Who ever has the best match up is probably going to have the better game that day." Roddy and Gonzo are class, they are actually interested in winning, not padding stats. This should end what everyone already knew was a stupid thread.

hes going to need a new screen name LOL he will never recover those negs LOL

Good grief. Let it go already. Anyone can have a brain fart moment. I just hope all of you delighting in Joe's negging get your chance up at bat.

Man, this thread has legs. I was happy to see it move off page one for awhile but it keeps popping back up.

JOEinPHX has no need of another screen name, even if the current one is in questionable standing at the moment. I only regret that my post was construed as a criticism of Roddy and Tony. It wasn't. I was criticizing MM's decision to turn Julio Jones into an overnight sensation at the risk of offending some veteran sensibilities. Who knew a post that said "Mularkey needs to pull his head out" would be so unfavorably received in these parts?

I disagree with JOEinPHX here like most of you but I will say this. "JoeKnows" more about inner-workings of Falcons than any of you. He knows because he has a relative on Falcons staff - this is not hearsay - this is a FACT - a FACT which I know to be true.

If this thread came from anybody but Joe I would dismiss it out of hand - but it came from Joe and "Joe knows".

I don't think this is a big deal but I could see Roddy and Tony being somewhat disappointed they did not get a target - even if they did, this is not a big deal in the pre-season.

Having said that, you guys needed to know that JOEinPHX is credible - don't be so quick to dismiss him.

Thanks Phillip. I was wondering if anyone who knew me was going to step up to the plate, but this thread was pretty much a 'third rail' kind of thing.

no worries Joe.

I still don't think its a big deal(lack of looks for Tony/Roddy) being 1st pre-season game and all and those guys(Roddy/Tony) are gonna get their looks - some in pre-season and much more in regular season. Roddy & Tony don't really need the pre-season game action right now like Julio does.

Having said that, if you say there were some ruffled feathers, I take it at face value...

I "+1" you but it did not make a dent in this neg-rant-fest

I had no idea either way. I know JOE has been a very good poster who has some knowledge of things that happen in FB, so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and not trashing him for putting something out there, even if its doesn't make sense on the surface. All I was trying to do is present a plausible scenario where it might be possible. I was not trying to say that was definitely the case, just a scenario where it might happen.

It is not in questionable standing with me. Some of the kidiots got carried away with a negging game but you probably kept them out of other trouble.

I don't agree with your assessment but you didn't get any -1s from me.
