There have been four linchpins to the Falcons offense over the last three seasons. Ryan, Turner, White, and for the last two, Gonzo. You'd think that all four had earned some respect from their offensive coordinator, but that's clearly not the case. Mike Mularkey decided to turn PS1 into the Julio Jones show. Gonzo was targeted once. Roddy not at all. I get the Jones love, but that's no way to treat a first-ballot Hall of Famer and last year's most prolific receiver in the NFC. Gonzalez and White are the two most prideful men in that locker room - last night their coordinator deliberately stepped on their cranks. I like Mularkey a whole lot more than most on this board, but he created a rift Friday night and he needs to pull his head out.

So, according to your logic, the only reason Roddy didn't go into a season long funk last year was because he caught one pass in the first preseason game last year?

You may be onto something, 3 years ago, Roddy caught 5 passes the first preseason game, 2 years ago- 3, last year- 1 and this year none. My god, they're eliminating Roddy from the offense. No wonder he's pi##ed. Probably trading him for secondary help.

That's a shame, always liked Roddy....

First time I've ever piled up negs on a thread. Looks like I've found the motherlode of guys who don't understand an elite athlete's mind.

Sure they're team players, but Tony and Roddy don't take the field to be ignored. Not in any game.

I think you're the one that doesn't understand an elite athlete's mind. The fact they didn't throw at them is a compliment because MM already knows what he has there.

Besides that football is a contact sport and I'd imagine they wanna keep as many vets healthy as possible(especially 2 Pro Bowlers) for when those catches actually count. It's not all about putting on a good show just for you!

And ****, I bet they wanted to see JJ with the ball in his hands as much as the rest of us!! :P

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think high-level professional athletes care one bit about their stats or touches in a meaningless preseason game. All they probably care about is getting their reps in and staying healthy. And finishing the game so they can get to the postgame food spread and go spend time with their families.

Roddy was the first one to run over and pile on HD after the TD catch, and he looked giddy as a school girl... I also Roddy and Julio cutting up together on the sideline after the first TD series.

Now, your turn to provide evidence, not just unfounded and ******** speculation, to the contrary.

Too be quite honest, I am happy they didnt get a catch.....99% of injuries to wr come after the catch or during the throw while the ball is in the air.....maybe the coaches also know this and thats why they didnt toss the ball to them....Im sure they will have plenty of balls to catch......when it actually matters to the season.

This is ignorance

I do not know why you have a -37 rep for this thread. That is ridiculous. You cannot express your opinion or state your stance without people bytching up and getting all sensitive; and, JOEinPhx you usually are one of the more level-headed posters here. This is why I do not get it. It is not like you are a troll or trying to cause discontent.

Anyway, I feel the coaching staff wants to try out their rookies and newly-acquired players. After all, that is what the preseason is designed to do. :)

I can assure you that neither Tony nor Roddy were upset Friday night. It's called teamwork, and players who can overcome their own personal quarrels and settle for the team before themselves win championships.

It's called being a team and that's what our coaching staff has been implementing in our players. You play for the glory of your teammates, not for selfish reasons.

If you think Tony and Roddy weren't pissed, you'd be wrong.

I highly doubt it if Tony & Roddy was piss at all. MM already knows what he has in Roddy & Tony. The more playing time JJ gets, the stronger the chemistry will be with Matt Ryan. In other words, the young man has to get his feet wet and this what the preseason is all about.

And there you have it folks. The answer to your question.

This is the one thing I wanted to mention about Julios performance last night. Yeah, he had a few nice plays, but if those, very few, nice plays are going to come at the expense of pro bowl production, folks, we are in trouble!

YKW has struck again.

All this for one preseason game.

I can't believe that still in this day and age with all the access to information available in the NFL world, that some people react to a PRE-SEASON game with this much ignorance. If anything, showcasing Julio in this manner just put the rest of the NFL on alert that you will NOT be able to stack the box against the Burner any longer or really play defense against the Falcons the way you've been doing. For if you do, not only will the usual suspects (Roddy, Gonzo etc) burn you, but in addition to that we have a lethal down field threat that will absolutely torch that azz. I guarantee you after Friday's game, all the defensive co-ordinators in our division are scrambling to rethink how they will defend the Falcon's offense with the addition of Julio because what they know what they were trying to do b4 will no longer work.

So for all this ranting from the OP, you just showed your lack of knowledge about what is really happening and frankly, it's kind of embarrassing.

Wow. First, JoeP's OP is the one that sounds like "bytching" and second, if your defense of his OP is saying that he has a right to express his opinion than how can you not say the same for the 37 people that negged it? Are they not worthy of the same right to express their opinion?
