Diasater at Corner Back

TD better be on the freaking Phone, and finding us a Veteran that can play Corner / Nickel.

Owens was beyond Horrible last night and this kid has been in the league

long enough to avoid such a disastrous performance

I Kid you not.

If Dunta or Grimes gets injured we will repeat the 2009 season at Corner.

Owens got Burnt to a Crisp last night and By Gawd he is now to be called

-----------------------------CRISP OWENS------------------------

Franks was not a lot better last night but he looked great on his returns.

If Franks gets more returns he will develop a swagger that will spill over into his

play at Corner / Nickle.

But even with that said, we do not have any serviceable depth at the position.

One Injury at Corner, and you can forget about the Post Season.

I have watched the NFL for Decades and I have seen this exact situation countless times,

and unless TD acts quickly History will repeat it self.

You may not like my post, I do not care.

The regular season will prove me correct.

I repeat

Owens must be cut and and well seasoned vet must be brought in immediately so he can learn

our system and be ready.

Another Brian Williams if you will. 30 something with good knees that will not cost a lot to sign.

I think it's sad because Owens has the physical skill set to be a decent/good corner. I think his suckage is based on a couple of different factors:

1.) He just doesn't get the mental aspect of the game. He tries to play so physical...I believe he must be neglecting the playbook/cerebral part of being a corner in the NFL.

2.) Confidence. I would think at this point he has none.....No swagger as corner=No feel for the flow of the game=Getting toasted on a regular basis.

Because of #1 and #2 he plays scared....You can't played scared in the NFL at any position.

I suspect that the line that Flowery Branch has been putting out for a couple of weeks now...i.e..."We aren't looking for any veteran nickel CB help".....is being reevaluated this morning....or was never to be believed anyway.

Good post karst, I feel your concern my brother, and raise you one "troubled."

This will be my 50th year of watching the NFL.

It is the Game that I love the most.

This does not mean that I know everything about the Game and Coaching Strategies,

but I have seen everything many many times.

The game is evolving, but certain elements of the game remain a constant and always will.

Remember how stoked we all were over this guy?

Growens anybody?

Yes it is sad, but ±W±T±H, its the NFL and thats the way the Cooke Crisp Crumbles.

I kinda agree but at this point, I'm starting to think maybe it's the scheme. I mean ALL of these dudes suck. quit trying to be cute, let these dudes man up on a receiver and cover.

I feel exactly how you feel. If we keep the scheme, which we will, then cut the guy and find someone who could play zone.

Kelvin Hayden, Brian Williams, Randall Gay, Lito Sheppard... we gotta get one of these gentlemen on the line and bring him in!

I think we need help at safety, as well. Bush looked all right, but Schillinger definitely did not. Atari Bigby or even Darren Sharper would provide us with some nice, veteran depth.

But cornerback is the most important area for sure. We absolutely have to bring someone else in to compete with Franks, because it is time for Owens to go.

The best two that are left are Hayden and Brian Williams.

I'm really surprised that no one has signed Hayden yet. I know he's "injury prone," but the guy was the best cornerback on the Colts for several seasons, and he has a history of making big plays.

We could also try working out a trade with the Eagles for one of their cornerbacks who is not part of the "big three" -- Joselio Hanson or Marlin Jackson would both be upgrades over Owens.

At least Crisp Houston was around the WR...broke neck and all.

I've always thought that Owens was in the wrong scheme. He showed some grasp for the position at the end of 09/10, but has rapidly regressed looking "lost" in coverage.

I have no faith in Owens being an option(of any kind).

Crisp Houston actually had an int last night, had his head around perfectly. Was a horrible pass though. I am terrified if one of out starters goes down and these guys have to start (Cincy last year). I think owens needs some confidence. Maybe with all starters in there, he will look better, don't know. One of them may work at a nickel, but starting on the outside scares me. Need to bring in somebody even if it is just B Williams.

Man at this point I think anyone is an upgrade over Owens. Against a vanilla offense and couldn't make a play? Burnt by Hartline?

I've spoken to some Lions fans that are content with him. I don't want Houston back either, but Owens is looking like the bigger "Crisp". I'll settle for Bwill bad knees and all. At least I know his struggles are injury related, not spontaneous combustion like Owens.

FROM COACH MIKE SMITH’S PRESS CONFERENCE:

There were a lot of good things. There were a lot of bad things and there were some okay things in the ball game. I did like several things that I saw out there. We as a coaching staff will dissect it when we watch tape tomorrow and make the corrections. There are a lot of things that we need to fix. That’s what the preseason is for. It’s for you to evaluate your team and put your roster together. This is just step one in the four steps that we go through to get ready for the regular season.

ON JULIO JONES: Julio got indoctrinated into what the NFL is about. In terms of the plays that he made, they were outstanding. I think all three touches were for first downs. He showed some skills that we saw when he was playing at the University of Alabama. . . I really thought Julio did some good things.

ON THE FIRST TEAM DEFENSE: That’s the way to start off your season in the preseason. You want to have a fast start. I thought that the defense did a very good job with ball disruptions and taking the ball away, that’s a big emphasis point.

ON BEING DETERMINED TO GET JULIO THE BALL: I don’t know if (we were) determined to get him the ball. It was the way the defense was trying to defend us. . . We script our first 15 plays and it’s based on how people are going to try to defend us.

ON THE TWO MIAMI TOUCHDOWN PASSES: It was tough for those guys. We saw the route combination and I’m defending the young man that was out there. We had not seen that route combination. It will be part of our installation as we move into next week. It was something that we hadn’t seen. It was two good plays by them.
