Vikings DE Edwards should play vs. Saints despite sprained knee

NFL.com Wire Reports

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards has a mildly sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee, a source with knowledge of the diagnosis told NFL.com's Steve Wyche, but he should be OK to start in Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints.

Edwards had three of the Vikings' six sacks during Sunday’s 34-3 divisional-playoff blowout of the Dallas Cowboys. He was injured during the third quarter, returned for a few plays, then was done for the day with his team in command of the game.

Vikings coach Brad Childress declined to elaborate on Edwards' injury Monday. Childress only said that Edwards is "a tough guy," and if he's able, he'll play against the Saints.

Edwards was receiving treatment Monday. He said after the game that he should be fine.

Edwards also had six quarterback hurries against the Cowboys.

The Associated Press.

Ray is fine. after the Cowboys game that he suffered the sprain in he played the next week and was the ONLY Viking to get a sack. honestly I think it's taking him a while to get all the info in the scheme because the Vikings play a very vanilla scheme

So your biggest FA acquisition has a bad knee. No big deal, it's all right.

Surely the front office knew about this, and took a calculated risk. They probably factored it in and got a bargain contract.

This had to be a minor clean up procedure.

This was kept from the media by accident, no hiding it.

This is a chance to develop depth that will be needed down the playoff stretch.

not sure if sarcasm but if not good educated answer. the front office most likely knew about this so if they signed him it must not be that big a deal
