Pick the final 3

Below are 50 guys I think will make the final 53 man roster. I know there will be some who feel the 50 below aren't correct. That's understandable. But the question I pose to the boards is, if the guys below are in, Who should the final 3 spots go to? Keep in mind that I've only included 4 CBs, so at least one more CB is going to be mandatory. Also, note that there are already 9 OL and 9 DL included so at the very most 1 more player at each of those positions could be added.

Here is the link to our depth chart for reference:

Though I haven't decided on my own answer yet. I will add that I think that a big part of the equation is who can we stash on the practice squad safely. Guys like Lucas Cox, and all of the WR & TE not on the list would be safe on the PS IMO. Our UDFA CBs maybe not so much. Clearly we lose Valdez, Chauncey, Bruggerman, & Trey Lewis if they don't make our 53 man roster.

(please don't reply to this post, it's already too long -_- . And of course this is all just for discussion since the preseason will bring injuries, cuts, and suprise performances)

Looks pretty good.....I do see Jose Valdez instead on Swvitek in the top 50......For Final 3 I see Kamaal McIlwain(CB), Youri Yenga(LB) and Trey Lewis....I will be looking closely at the position battle for 5th DB(McIlwain/Walls) AND 6th LB(Yenga/Adkins/James). These players will make the team if they are ST beasts!

I'm thinking the other 3 would be a CB (Walls or McIlwain if we don't sign someone), A RB or a WR (Johnson or probably Harvey), and a LB (probably Adkins but Woods and Yenga I think have a shot if they show something on ST).

I actually have very few, if any problems with the 50 you have. The only spots I would even look at are more hopes on my end: One is that Valdez plays well enough at LT that Svitek becomes expendable, and two is that Palmer cements himself above Peelle on the depth chart and we find another young TE we want to groom (Winterswyk?) to replace him as the #3. That said, I like both Svitek and Peelle, and these moves would require the younger guys to really play well. I'm just hoping they do.

I suppose the last questionable spot is DE. I think and hope it will pan out the way you have it, but if Sidbury doesn't show anything or if Matthews doesn't continue to impress as he has, we may need to keep Chauncey around for some veteran stabilization.

The next question is: Who's on the PS? ;)

Chauncy is a solid base defender, and can play inside as well. It is nuts to say the rookie is a lock over Davis. He is a late rounder and could end up on PS.

Adkins will be the LB , unless James or Yenga really impress on ST.

I have heard much praise about Kamaal McIlwain, but wont sleep on Darren Walls either. One (or both) will at least end up on PS though.

Another to consider is Gatrell Johnson. They seem to be high on him.

I like Valdez, but Baker isnt healthy all the time, so they need to be able to trust the guy to start @ LT if needed.

It cracks me up that people are assuming a guy who has stayed in the defensive rotation the last 3 years (Chauncey Davis) is going to be cut in favor of a guy who hasn't been able to crack the rotation at all (Sidbury) and a 7th round pick that has never played a snap in the NFL, even a preseason snap.

I don't really get that.

I don't know man, Svitek is a pretty valuable swing tackle IMO ...I would hate to pizz him away....

I picked 4 because I like Davis over Matthews. My final 3 then are Adkins, Valdez, and McIlwain. I know having 10 O-linemen is unlikely, but it could happen to ensure we don't lose anyone we stash on the practice squad.

Speaking of the practice squad, I think Matthews, Winterswyk, Yenga, Woods, Priest and Tripp will all wind up on there.

I don't really understand exactly how the cap ruling works when cutting players, but someone posted a week or so ago that Davis was earning quite a lot (relatively), so perhaps this could be a reason why he might be cut instead of the less experienced players? Or is it too late to free up cap space now?

If the Falcons see a veteran out there in FA they really want, I can see David becoming a casualty. Short of that, I think he will stick.

The Falcons don't need to evaluate Chauncey, they know what he is. If they were planning on moving him down the road, I would imagine he would have been released already.

I think they are waiting to see how the young DEs do in the preseason before they release Davis.
