Unknøwn
Major League Baseball could suspend New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez if it confirms he participated on at least two occasions in illegal, underground poker games after being warned not to, ESPNNewYork.com reported Wednesday."We're talking to people involved in the investigation and we're taking this very seriously," said an MLB executive who spoke to ESPN on condition of anonymity. "Because he had been warned about this before, I would say a possible suspension would be very much in play."The Yankees third baseman's alleged presence at the card games in Beverly Hills, Calif., was reported by RadarOnline in early July. Major League Baseball said on July 2 that it was looking into the reports. At the time, Rodriguez, through spokesman Howard Rubinstein, denied ever playing in the illegal poker games run by jailed Ponzi schemer Brad Ruderman. In 2005, Rodriguez was warned by Major League Baseball about gambling in underground poker clubs.Ruderman was accused by authorities of using $25 million in investors' money to fund the illegal games and cover his gambling debts.Actor Tobey Maguire was sued in June for more than $300,000 he allegedly won at the poker games by a trustee for Ruderman's defrauded investors. Actors Leonardo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon also participated in the games, according to reports.Rodriguez, 36, is a three-time American League MVP. He currently is rehabilitating in Tampa, Fla., after undergoing surgery July 11 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee. He is scheduled to resume baseball activities Thursday and is expected to return within the next two weeks.Rodriguez has not commented on Wednesday's report, and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was quoted as saying he knew nothing about MLB's investigation of Rodriguez's alleged poker playing. CrimsonFalcon
I hate the Yankees...probably more than I hate the Saints...but...This is ridiculous. If they suspend or ban A-Rod, I will be done with baseball forever. This is infringing on people's personal lives and it complete BS. CrimsonFalcon
Yeah, it sucks when people are held responsible for breaking the law. What's breaking the law? How many people have played a "friendly" game of poker on a specific night during the week with their friends? That's all it's supposed to be. It's not like he's betting on the sport of baseball like a (should be) hall of famer. The point is, he was doing this on his time, away from team facilities and I, personally, think it's a crock of $hit.

I think him doing that is a crock of ****.
CrimsonFalcon
Ahh, some new information I did not hear about (mainly because it's A-Rod, and I despise him.). The information about stolen money is one thing.

CrimsonFalcon
pete rose anyoneWhile I agree, I will respectfully disagree as well. The difference between Rose and Rodriguez is that Rose bet on the game of baseball, specifically the teams he managed, whereas A-Rod is playing a "friendly" game of poker with unscrupulous characters in his off time where the game (baseball) is not even a factor.
