DeCoud

What's gonna happen with him this year? He looked pretty impressive as a youngster back in 09. Last year it seemed like he regressed. Does our new DL make him look better? I think if Moore comes back this year as a better player and DeCoud steps it up a good notch, we could really shut some teams down. We have a lot of "if's" on the D this year. He is certainly one of them. We have the talent to be incredible on both sides of the ball. It's time that we start utilizing that talent.

i hope he benefits from the line as i kind of think he will. It will also be his 3rd yr. playing in the same defense and that's when people say it really clicks for players. No more thinking just reacting and doing. If our safties bring better play/decision making along with an improved d-line......it could get really exciting!

I think it was the scheme last year that dictated that he play more of a center field position and not let any thing get behind him. In other words, I think that the coaching staff took away his aggression and made him less instinctive which is dumb. The free safety is suppose to be your most instinctive free lancer on the team. Hopefully the defensive philosophy changes and Decoud can play like he did in 09.

he's gonna be great. last year he was put in the position of calling plays for the secondary and I think he was probably a little overwhelmed since that was one of Eric Coleman's jobs. towards the end of the season he and Moore started to click. I think they'll click even more since Moore is comfortable in the system.

2008

Coleman was the "new guy" running wild

Malloy had to hold the fort

2009

DeCoud was the "new guy" running wild

Coleman had to hold the fort

2010

Moore was the "new guy" running wild

DeCoud had to hold the fort

2011

Moore

DeCoud

+1. This point has been made over and over, does anybody actually read post?

decoud did his job last year...all we need for the saftey position is depth...dont know what happened to him since hes left but id like to have ol coleman back for that job

The reason the Falcons released him so early was so he could sign with another team before

the lockout started. He's at Detroit

because that logic doesnt make to much snse... each palyer has their own job to do on the defense... watdching your teammate isnt one of them..

True but being the absolute last line of the defense "holding the fort" is one of the jobs that has to be done.

I never said anything about "watching someone else"

our safties rotate, moore plays center field as well, evident with a nice play in that monday night game with that BD on that 40yd pass... moore really out played decoud, he just really disappeared a lot in games, i hope he really has a bigger impact this year..

I think half my point is being missed

after his "down" year in 08 Malloy was released

after his "down" year in 09 Coleman was demoted and then released after 10

as of now DeCoud is still the starter after his "down" year will he get demoted and released in the future??

I do not see anyone waiting to take his place. (Schillinger ??)

he has this year to prove he is the answer or FO will find it... the FO has proven that.. could schilliinger be the answer idk... only time will tell, but decoud time is running out...

If i remember correctly started out play SS and was transitioned to FS last year. He just needed time to adjust next year he will be much better. He still lays the boom. Put Clinton portis out and thats hard to do. The added pass rush will help him play more instinctivley and another year at FS is all hee needs.

I think DeCoud has been at FS all 3 years.

Coleman was moved from FS (starter) to SS (starter) at the beginning of 09

our safties have always rotated... from milloy to coleman to decoud to moore, no matter who is in there, they ALL have to kno how to play both FS,SS...

Sure they have to be able to play both positions but they usually play the same position every game.

On rare occasions they do rotate during a game.

But some posters make it sound like they rotate every other play and that is just not the case.

yea they do rotate depending on the play and match up... thats why they have to kno how to play both so they can switch at anytime...

I said they do on rare occasions, those switch offs only happen 3/4 times a game, not every other play.

Also rotating coverage is not necessarily the same as switching FS and SS

Anyway for the Falcons it all mote since they run a more symmetrical leftside - rioght side defense than most other teams.
