1. Panthers (( A ))

2a. Falcons. (( B )) They may have settled, but the key thing for me was, they managed to get their biggest FA need, a DE.

2b. Saints.(( B )) re-signed some key players, Got a nice DT prior to the lockout. Key for me was ditching Bush, and grabbing up Sproles.

4. Buccaneers. (( C )) They've made some good moves. Just not nearly as active as most assumed they would be. Even though they were one of the teams with the most amount of money to spend

Yalls grades?

Panthers aren't an A I think everyone gets a B no one really had an exceptional FA just filled needs...

How aren't they an (A)?

just off the top of my head, I'm sure I'm missing some.

Signed a DT that's above average against the run. Massive upgrade compared to what we had last season

Locked up Beason, Dwill, CJ, Anderson, Davis, long term. Dwill and CJ were ranked at the top of their positions in FA.

Signed two pass catching TEs in Shockey (I'm counting vet players added prior to the lockout also, like I did with Shaun Rogers for the Saints) and Olsen. Massive upgrade and should be a great help to a rookie qb.

Signed the 3rd best kicker over the last 3 years, to replace Kasay.

for me they dont get an A because of a few spots not addressed

DB, DT and WR

basicaly you did well paying guys who were gonna leave

but didnt really get the spots where you really struggled last yr at times

 They signed a nice run stuffing DT. Our DTs last year, were slimline, they couldn't stop a rb if their life depended on it. This new batch is bigger, meaner.

Why would they sign a WR? Both LaFell and Gettis had a better year their rookie year than White did his rookie year?

I'm not comparing them to White of course. If you were the Panthers FO, why on earth would you take two WRs that had a pretty good year considering the qb and play calling, burned a few DBs last year, and put them on the back burner, for some 28+ yr old washed up FA WR, that will only be there for a year or two?

I conceded on the DB part. We do need a CB to replace Marshall. Even though Rivera seems confident that, that someone is already on the roster. Who knows? Rivera gets an amazing amount of effort out of those even minimally talented. Look at the Chargers defense last year.

ahh the bigger is better thought process for a DT..... such an antiquated idea.

I remember when the panthers signed Keamatu(sp) and he and Jenkins were suppose to be this big mean DT combo that was going to collapse every Oline while peppers terrorized the outside.

Remember the first game we played against them?

I think we put up what 250 on the ground?

The panthers get a C+ for keeping their players but vastly overpaying

Falcons and saints B+

Bucs.....a D.......for dumbasses paying a PUNTER 19.5 million

Saints A-

Dropped Bush's inflated salary grabbed his replacement for 1/3 the price. The Ellis signing will help their average run defense. They kept their main players Moore, Bushrod, Scott Shanle for fair market value. I do think they over paid for Harper, but considering they had 20+ FA's I thought they did the best out of the division. The Saints significantly improved their team.

Falcons B

Sometimes the best moves are the ones that aren't flashy. Atlanta kept Nicholas, Bryant and Clabo and signed them to contracts below market value. They only lost 1 of their 3 O-Lineman FAs, the line should still retain it's continuity. The number one priority was a pass rushing DE to compliment Abe. While the Falcons didn't get the top DE, they did upgrade the position, getting Edwards for $6 Million is a steal. The Falcons improved their team.

Buccaneers C-

Not really sure what they are waiting for, maybe they just didn't care for this FA class. They kept several of their own guys Quincy Black, Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood at market value. The only player of note from another team was Keonan the former big-footed Atlanta Falcons player, I do think they went overboard making him the highest paid punter in history.

The Buccaneers slightly improved their team.

Panthers D+

They kept their homegrown talent, but paid a premium for every single one of them. The DWill contract in particular had me shaking my head. If not for the great move grabbing Olsen, I probably would have gave them an F. The Panthers did not improve their team through FA.

Bring on the insults...

Why would anyone insult you ?

Me, personally, think the Falcons were so distraught over CJ not wanting to play for them, that they aimed low afterward and settled for the 5th or 6th best DE in FA.

Saints B: this would become an A if they get a good DT through FA or trade

Falcons B: I have been saying that the Falcons could afford to lose only one of their linemen. TD apparently agreed. This grade might increase if they address their secondary.

Carolina B: everyone here is saying they are overpaying but that is what happens when you were a lousy team last year and you want to prevent your top players from leaving for contenders.

Bucs D*: the asterisk is because the Bucs have so much young talent and came so close to the playoffs that you could do as much damage by bringing in older FAs as not. I think they want to get all that youth on the field to get over their growing pains. I think this team is targeting next year as their window of opportunity starting. At that point they will know what they have in the young players, getting rid of those they don't want, re-signing those they do, and I think they will be larger players in FA at that point
