Official Falcons Salary Cap Tracker

Recommended Posts

I put this table together tracking the Falcons 2011 salary cap numbers. I do not have the contracts for Peterson or Bryant, so I'll update the table once the numbers are published. I also cannot confirm the rookie pool. I believe the rookie pool cap hit is $5.1 million for this year, but I cannot find confirmation, so it's estimated until that can be confirmed. If I missed anybody or new numbers are posted, let me know and I'll update it to re-post.

So we actually have a pretty solid cap number available?

That depends on what we gave Bryant, Peterson, and how accurate the $5.1m for rookie cap is.

I would not say we have a pretty solid cap number available. We are pretty close to the cap. There are a lot of fringe players signed right now that could be cut to free up room without us taking a cap hit though. For instance, Gartrell Johnson could be cut freeing up $480k without us getting any dead money. Joe Zelenka could free up $875k. Justin Peelle could free up $1.6 million. Chauncey Davis could free up $2.25 million ($3m with $750k dead money). Trey Lewis could free up $640k. Antoine Smith would free up $405k. Agnone and Parrish would be $330k each.

We have a lot of room to work with if we need it. But that list does cover 52 players. It doesn't cover undrafted rookies because they get minimum and might not make the team. If they do, they'll replace some of the players on that spreadsheet.

I was thinking of having a cap at 130.

But now I remember them saying that the cap is 120 but it will be more like 132 or something like that in reality.

I am pretty sure that the salary cap is only $120m. There's another $20 million the team spends on player benefits like lifetime healthcare and retirement stuff for players on the roster. So the players are getting $140m but it's capped at $120m for salaries.

Thanks for taking the time to put that together. A few reasons though why our situation is likely better than the list indicates-

*Vets making the vet min salaray only count the league minimum against the cap. Ex. If Peterson signed for the vet min, he'd likely make over $800,000. But he would only count against the cap for the league min, which is something like $425,000.

*Clabo may make 5 mil/season, but his cap hit this year is likely smaller than that. Same for Nicholas and Edwards.

*I didn't count, but the list looks like it might have over 53 players on it.

Still, great job and hopefully we really are in even better shape. We need the space if we want to resign Blalock, Snelling, or add a vet cb, rb, wr, te etc.

Zelenka did a great job for us last year, and he is our Long Snapper, which is the one position that

if it aint broke Dont Touch It.

Peele? Leave him alone, we need him this year and next!

I agree with you on Zelenka but not on Peele. We don't need him this year and we definitely don't need him next year. Palmer is just as good, if not better than him.

It was nothing against those players. I was giving them as examples of who "could" free up cap. Not who I thought would. Basically, those are the guys that if we cut, their salaries are close to their cap hit, meaning we would create cap space. Other players have a much lower salary than cap hit and are not feasible to cut. For example, cutting a guy like Weatherspoon with a $4m cap hit when he's actually only making $450k is not feasible because of the dead money we would incur.

So we're 4.3 Mil under Cap

If we cut Davis and once we find out what the actual cap hits on Clabo and Edwards are then Im guessing we'll have around 10 Mil

Man I want Steve Smith, Zach Miller, and Chris Carr so bad

I don't think there are any plans to cut Chauncey Davis. Can't see it.

The cap hits for the FAs that signed is definitely less than the average of their contracts.....probably 1.5 to 2 million less for Edwards and Clabo.

I agree with you. I put their avg so we could keep track of worst case scenario. Regarding the previous posters comment about vets, those are the actual cap hit numbers. The only ones I used any estimation on were the recently signed free agents and rookies since we don't know the prorated amounts.

In reality, that number is probably pretty close to where we stand. We don't have Peterson or Bryant's numbers, which will offset some of the prorated amounts for Clabo, Nicholas, and Edwards. I also cannot confirm the rookie pool, but I know it's 5.x million, so 5.1 is a placeholder.

I figured this would be a good starting estimate for keeping track. Once we confirm exact recent numbers, we update it.

Any chance we can pin this thread so we don't have salary cap threads popping up all the time?

Plus I don't really want to look through pages of topics to find it and update it when we make anymore signings/cuts or when contract numbers come out.
