the eagles signed babin...thats 2 of the top 3 fa des that are gone and we traded way up in the draft for a wr(when we already had a pro bowler at wr)instead of trading up to the teens and getting a player at a glaring need for us...if we dont get edwards, our fa plan will have backfired and set us back imo...looks like we might be taking a step back this year if they dont do something with our de position...i dont wanna count on sid to be the other guy again this year  ...big mistake by td imo

If anything Babin's signing helps us get Edwards.

he signed a 5 year 28 Mil 11.5 Mil guar. deal.

takes away all levelrage the CJ deal gave when you combine it with the fact that

A.) Edwards is closer to Babin's age

B.) Edwards had 8 sacks, Babin had 12.5

C.) Carolina is overpaying everyone they sign

D.) CJ is 25 and has 11.5 Sacks.

I agree. I am tired of how we seem to sit on our hands during free agency each year (with the exception of Turner).

We could have had Peppers last year, but noooooooooooo.....

We NEED to shore up our pass rush. I want Kroy in rotation so he can bring his high motor into the game situationally and so he can remain a force on Special Teams.

Edwards seems to be the best option if we can get him at a reasonable price. Sounds like he thinks he is better than he is and will be demanding serious $$$

Other fans have been telling yall this entire time. Yall could have stayed where yall were and got Greg Little in the second (who will be very good) and added defensive help with the other picks yall traded.

if we coulda/can get a top de it might work out,but if not that trade is gonna set us back...and thats not good with the teams we have to play 2 times a year in this division...im optimitic, but a little worried at the same time

Little is a knucklehead plain and simple, one guy I talked to told me to avoid him, he'll probably be out of the leauge in 3-4 years

I think it has backfired.

The Falcons should have matched the Panthers offer for CJ. Very young, up and coming DEs just do not come along that often in FA. Especially one developed by a division rival, that is fighting tooth and nail to get him back, because they've spent the time on him, they know his worth. Could have been the face of yalls defense for the next decade.

Edwards is going to want close to what CJ agreed to. I honestly don't know about him. So much talent on the Vikings Dline, over his tenure there, that it's hard to gauge how good he is.

Osi is very disgruntled with the Giants. I hate to say it, because I know he is the future for the Falcons, but maybe Julio Jones to the Giants for Osi, then pick up Braylon Edwards? Would help the Falcons a great deal if they're in a "Win now" mindset.

If we matched CJ's offer we would've been down to 3$ Mil in cap space.

and Edwards is nto getting what CJ gets, apparently the Browns pulled their offer from Edwards and are working on a new one for much less money then before, that's the impact that the Babin signing has had, he's not getting CJ money.

also no way in **** are we trading Julio for a scrub like Umenyoria, maybe Jenkins and a 7th round draft pick.

But if I were going to trade Julio for a DE it's going to be Tambia Hali or Mario Williams.

It's logical to think Edwards will get close to Babin money.

I don't think Edwards is going to be logical though. "CJ and me were like 1a and 1b"

I think CJ is worth it from the Panthers view point. They know what they have in him.

Dwill's contract was a little over the top, but I think they paid him extra due to him being on his rookie contract still, making peanuts, when he had his 1500+ 20 TD 0 fumble season in '08, his part in the first duo of RBs to rush for over 1100 each. And because not once did Dwill ever complain about his contract.

that would be the biggest fail I have ever seen. That would be the equivalent of giving up 5 picks for Osi

I would literally laugh myself into a coma if they did that

You guys are wishing that Edwards takes Babin money, he's looking to get paid big time.

Everyone is looking to get paid. NO one will give Edwards what CJ got and even Edwards knows that after the Babin deal. I wouldn't be surprised to see us get him but we won't break the bank to make it happen...

Edwards is not getting CJ money, the only team that was thinking about giving it to him as apparently pulled the deal off the table now that Babin signed for low.

Also we can always sign Mario Williams next year, all our bgi money off contracts is coming from busts are guys that are old or retiring.

Due up for FA next yea

Anderson (bust)-3.5 Mil due this year

Abraham (34)-8 Mil due this year

Tony G (likely to retire)-5.5 Mil due this year

Chauncey Davis (likely casualty cap, due 3.4 Mil and bust)

Douglas-Cheap and young likely to be resigned

Jenkins-Likely cap casualty, due 3.5 mil this year and 4.5 next.

McClure (34)- due 1.7 Mil already drafted replacement, likely gone.

Chris Redman (34)-Due 2.5 Mil this year, old JpW will be 2nd string in 2012

Joe Zelenka (35)-LS, probably Cut this year, due 850K

Add that up where we will be somewhere in cap after this FA (Likely 4-5 Mil under) and that's about 24 Mil in cap for next year.

Yep, we'ere sitting pretty for Super Mario

We didn't want a receiver that might be very good, we wanted a monster that's going to be a 1A receiver before taking over for Roddy somewhere down the line. On that point I agree with Dimitroff's strategy of not overreacting to positions that got exploited in individual games and instead focusing on one of the main problems on the roster with an immediate solution.

As far as the thread topic, I could have told you we weren't going to go after Babin and CJ was going to re-sign with the Panthers once they offered him more than what we could reasonably offer. We might sign Edwards but it's not a deal-breaker.

Either David OR Anderson might be released, but def not both, but I've been wrong time and time before... B)

We signed a plethora of UDFA DLinemen, also Jerry is returning to the lineup and we drafted Cliff Matthews...

They're both gone
