THE ICEMAN
It's should be a now or never type of attitude and on top of that they didn't even have to pay Julio Jones a ton of money either with the new rookie pay scale if he was willing to give Danta Robinson that kind of money why didn't he give CJ that kind money? I think he was way better than any guy they could get now including Ray Edwards. I would think that Mathis Kwiwanuka if healthy is the second best DE he was on pace to have a huge year so lets hope TD has a back up plan. I don't think Ray Edwards is out of the Question but I just don't think TD wants to throw 40-50 mil and 20-25 guaranteed at Edwards so where does he go now for Depth we have that we need "Play Makers" like he been saying and were pretty well set on Offense so were do we go now. But give props to the Panthers for Paying there very good and very young Player in Charles Johnson?
RyanINT+1
Overrpaying u mean.... they should have just kept peppers
jgator21
Kid is not worth that kind of money yet. Not saying he wont earn it but 1 double digit sack year shouldnt get you that kind of money. Major kudos to our office for knowing not to budge.
AF89
I think your forgetting just how desperate that 2009 CB situation was.....(Our DE situation isn't good but its nowhere near as bad as that)
ch46745
The reason why we couldn't get charles johnson is because he is not worth the type of contract that the Panties gave him, nor is he proven enough to get into an expensive bidding war for either. Minzear
We gave Dunta something that averaged out like 8 mil a year with I think a 22 Mil signing bonus. He gets something that averages out to 12 Mil a year with a 32 Mil Signing Bonus. The Panthers pretty much took the decision out of our hands.

AF89
Still no excuse for the Dunta signingYou remember that Packer playoff game? (of course you do)Now imagine every game last year went down like that cause thats how it was going to happen if we didn't go out and overpay for a CB. They were bad. Grimes wasn't going to hold down that secondary by himself.

For that money the secondary should have been held down then.We should have waited and made a run at Aso.

(Also the little problem of him not being a 2010 Free Agent.) And CJ is no more the ASO of DEs than Robinson was.

I'd much rather sign CJ for what he got than Robinson for what he got just because good d-line is more important than a good secondary. theDIRTYcode
You can't outbid a team with 50 million to blow on a player looking for money.

Mr. Right
Meanwhile we wouldn't have won 8 games with that craptacular secondary. And the secondary was not good enough to win a playoff game. We went all in on a CB last year and ended up still needing to upgrade our defense.
AF89
And the secondary was not good enough to win a playoff game. We went all in on a CB last year and ended up still needing to upgrade our defense. We still have some cap room we didn't break the bank. Without Daunta (or someother CB of eqaul or greater talent) we don't make the playoffs in the first place. As for CJ from all sources TD made alot of effort to sway him over but the Panthers took it out of our hands. (And a probally unwise move on thier part.) joe_fishback
Falcons need to resign their own first, but looks as if we're shopping for cap casaulties, i think td will be patient, its a buyers market with short term free agency
