falconidae
Objective much?Don't forget that the Falcons also have the same amount of playoff wins that the Panthers have, since '08. Despite having two more winning seasons.first class winning teams are teams like the Packers, Steelers, Saints, Colts, Patriots, etc.. Teams that have won it all. Not teams that constantly get bounced out of the playoffs after their first game.Homer much? Falcons are a better team than Carolina right now. He might not want to wait to see if Cam is the real thing or the next Jrussell. And the Falcons can say truthfully, that Johnson can come in and be a really important part of a great D. You have tons of free agents, and yet your expecting CJ to get buckoo bucks? On top of that, your team hasn't had time for any real minicamps, learning a new playbook, players building chemistry, etc. I just don't see a drastic turn around any time soon. ZOSO62
agreed.the first time Jared Allen had double-digit sacks he was a one year wonder.the first time any player puts up great stats you can say that. CJ has been in league 4 years - most players at most positions take a few years to develop.Especially JA98

Cam would have said "36" and sat back down. Ryan was ready to play as a rookie, Cam isn't. He may become a great QB, but it will be 2-3 years down the road. CJ may not want to wait. Not to mention the Bucs didn't have a great roster last year and they went 10-6. Cam is signing under new Cba rules and Clausen was a mid 2nd round pick. So which QB is taking all our cap space? Not to mention we have 2 1,000 yard backs a Oline with 2 probowlers on it and the best back 7 in the NFCS on defense. I like our chances for a quick turn around. You're not finishing anywhere near 11-5, sorry truth hurts.

However, that said, how many free agents do you have? Our rookie qb played in a pro style system - Cam played in a 1 read shotgun. Your rb situation is beastly however, you have one of the best 1-2 punches in the game. Bucs benefited from a weak schedule imo :P

They have a great coach, plenty of talent, and a young and talented hard-working quarterback, but like someone else alluded to, it's July 26th. Cam has very little time to get adjusted to the speed and complexities in the NFL and he won't be able to rely on his legs as he did many times at Auburn. I doubted him earlier but I think he will be a GREAT quarterback in the future. He's mature, athletic, and super-cool under pressure. I just don't see a strong turnaround from the Panthers in 2011, especially given that the schedules are harder for the NFCS this year. I see 6 wins for the Panthers this year. Injuries and the fact that we haven't even had a FA period before they determine schedule strenght. I really don't care about schedule strenght until the end of a season. I like our chances for a quick turn around.Just used the Gruden interview as an example, Auburn simplfied the O for Cam because he was so much better than everyone else, no need to get complex when Newton could just steamroll a team on the ground and then throw it over their heads when they played the run.Ryan spent 4 years in a pro style offense, Newton one year in a one read shotgun offense, there's just no way Cam is as ready as Ryan was, which was the key to the quick turnaround. SnellingSomethingGood
FOX Sports' Adam Caplan confirms a previous Charlotte Observer report that the Falcons are "very interested" in free agent Charles Johnson.Ray Edwards was the Falcons' reported top target around draft time, but they've switched their sights to Johnson. Johnson is a younger pass rusher than Edwards and has been more productive with a far worse supporting cast, so he'd be our preferred target as well. While the Panthers will do what they can to bring back Johnson, it's clear they'll have to pay up big time. Per Rotoworld
