With most of the NFL writers in town last week, we passed some time during the eight-hour league’ meeting cross-checking free agency notes, catching up on league gossip, rumor and innuendo.

Here are five things we heard bouncing of the walls of the swank Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway:

Ray Edwards is headed elsewhere: The Falcons reportedly have had a change of heart. They are going to focus on retaining their 11 free agents and will not be a player in the Ray Edwards derby. The defensive end is expected to land in Philadelphia.

Tyson Clabo is staying put: Although the Falcons planned for a potential exodus of offensive linemen, they appear ready to retain two of the three starters. The order of priority is believed to be Clabo, Harvey Dahl and then Justin Blalock.

Stephen Nicholas is headed to the New York Giants: Nicholas is viewed as a potential starter for the Giants. For the Falcons, he opened last season as a reserve. He has started 24 of the last 32 regular-season games with the Falcons.

If no Edwards, what are the Falcons going to do at defensive end? I didn’t get a plausible answer for this. Kroy Biermann thinks he can make another leap if he doesn’t have to play on special teams.

Charles Johnson likely headed back to Carolina: Johnson, the former UGA standout, could be another defensive end target, but Carolina general manager Marty Hurney said it was rather easy to figure out their priorities. Translation: They plan to re-sign Johnson and running back DeAngelo Williams.

Keep one thing in mind. Reading a blog by Ledbetter is as entertaining and as reliable as any thread started here by message boarders.

He has a very low accuracy rate on his "suppositions", yet they get picked up as news and printed everywhere else.

When are you guys going to learn he has no inside edge apparently, but is supposing much as you are.

Me, I'm going to wait and see what happens instead of joining in the normal meltdown of the board which usually results in non-events anyway.

Smoke and Mirrors? I still think we make a play for a big name DE.

Honestly, with a rookie wage scale, I think that frees up money for us. Jones won't get a mega-huge payday like one would have originally thought, freeing up funds we would have normally used on a top 6 pick.

I, for one, welcome our new DE (And honestly, I don't hate Kroy, I just think he needs another year of development)

Since the teams have "not been allowed" to talk to any FAs so far - and are still not allowed, there is nothing set in stone.

The fact that anyone would believe that the teams, who guard information like it is a matter of National Security, would "leak" vital information like who they are actually targeting or not targeting in FA to any press member is amazing to me.

These are the same teams that won't even list an injury correctly on reports to keep from giving an edge to other teams. I'm sure they are whispering all these secrets about who they have a deal with when FA opens. All this is media speculation based on the fan chatter they pick up on.

If true, that goes against everything I've been reading around here all offseason. I'm curious to see what the "one piece away" theorist have to say about this.

It's the AJC, and Ledbetter, he's wrong about almost everything when it comes to player transactions with this team.

as for inking Clabo and Dahl, don't that will be a mistake of gigantic porportions, they're going to nosedive in about 2 years, almost every Olinemen does.

So basically we will be the same team we were last year minus some key players like Blalock and Nicholas (not counting rookies)? That doesn't sound like we will be improved at all next year.... doesn't seem like TD's style.

Which is why I find most of this smokey...

Giants keep taking all our linebackers. First Boley now Nicholos? Man, he is an underrated contributor to our team. I really hope we make a significant signing on defense. After we resign our OLinemen, defense has to take major priority.

Exactly, Dont miss Boley, but if Nicholas leaves I would be severely pissed off! I think that this is all hogwash though!

i do not see edwards going to philly. i do think we are in the hunt for edwards or charles johnson. td will not stop till he get who he wants.

I don't think that Edwards is going to Philly either because they will have to sign both Vick and Jackson to new contracts which will both probably be big money contracts. CB or OL should be the Eagles top priority because they both were very bad weaknesses for them last season. I also believe that Charles Johnson will be heavily weighing his options on where he can go and him returning to the Panties are far from a sure thing.

I'd be ok w/ it if all this pans out this way. As much as we need to sign a DE, we need to retain our OL more. Protecting Matt should always be priority #1.

It's a shame there is no faith in TD's picks around here. If he resigns 2 of 3, then he shouldn't have wasted picks on OL depth. He picked certain OL for a reason.

What?!?!?! First off I have tons of faith in TD. Second, how is OL depth a bad thing? It's the most important area to have depth IMO.

I don't put a whole lot of stock in these sorts of articles..... TD has earned my trust and then some..... If there is still significant room under the cap after he is finished re-signing all of the FA's he has deemed as top priorities, I have absolutely NO DOUBT that he will use the remaining cap space to bolster the pass rush...

In my opinion, the one place on the field you want to have chemistry and consistency year after year is along the O line..... I honestly think that if you are going to make changes along the O line, you are much better off doing it one player at a time... To have 3 starters replaced with 3 new guys who have never played together is a recipe for disaster... Familiarity along the offensive line is as important as the relationship between a QB and his receivers....

If TD decides to bring back 2 or all 3 of our O linemen and there isn't enough cap space left to take a serious run at Charles Johnson, then it is what it is.... But TD has earned my trust, and Blank has certainly proven that he will spend every last dime the league will allow him to spend in order to bring a championship to Atlanta..... I have no reason to believe that TD will not start the season with the most competitive product he can possibly field...

We shall see what we shall see.... But as Tandy said, what you read in this guy's articles is really no more relevant than any other post you are reading in this thread... You have to take this stuff with a grain of salt.

I really hope this don't happen. I'm not sold on Edwards, so I really don't care if we don't sign him. I think we will re-sign Clabo and Blalock. I hope we can keep Williams too, but it seems unlikely. Last, we need to steal CJ away from Carolina. Our dline will be a lot better with him.
